Tph would kick butt. With her ability to hear stuff. Earthbending is sooo much better than waterbending anyways, But that's just my opinion.

In some ways I agree, but this is an IF situation, I would say, and it's funny to imagine them fighting.

I think Katara would win, sure Toph would be able to make Katar dance. But Katara can launch attacks that Toph would be unable to see, but still Toph could... urg nevermind, I am still going with Katara all the way.

Plus she is a bending master

I don't like katara very much, she's gotten kind of stale for me. She's your typical female character, while Toph is much more interesting.

ok the way i see waterbending, is i think its kinda a mix of all three other bending styles:\

Waterbenders can use ice as earth benders bend earth, yes there isnt as much of an abundance of it around but you catch my drift

Waterbenders can use the water as an extension of there limbs as firebenders do with theyre firebending, yes its not a flashy array of heat and color but still...

Waterbenders can use the mist to create some of the same effects (fighting wise) airbenders can...

I think, that toph and katara are equals. however, i do think katara would win, because earthbending is alot different from waterbending in that it doesnt really revolve around foot work. Earthbenders have to have a strong stance and move there feet in certain ways when they bend, thus creating the vibrations toph can sense. However waterbenders can stand in one place without moving they're feet at all and that would stop toph from being able to sense her. Yes i know she sensed the tree's but they are rooted int he ground and that doesnt count . The only hope toph would have to block would be either a) keep herself encased in stone or b) listen to the sloshing of the water as it moves through the air...

Ok, being me i'm going to have to disagree with you on that, Waterbenders can use mist, but they can't use it to the extent to knock someone over. It's pretty much for defensive cover. All elements use there elements as extentions of there hands, its called long range bending. And Ice isn't as flexible as earth, Therefore if they try to use soem of the same attacks, it usually shatters. But Ice can allow different attacks since its not has hard, for example kataras ice discs against pakku.

Toph also has excellent hearing, not just feels the vibration of the earth. I agree thatWaterbenders can stand still to bend they usually use the flowing motion of their arms if im not mistaken.

And I'm going to agree with Kaji. Toph wouldn't be totally helpless. We have to remember she has regular hearing that's better than others. She could hear the water moving through the air unless it was totally silent, and that's impossible unless they were in a vacummed area. SSo I say Toph would have a good chance of winning.

true but Toph would be fixted on Katara's location and pay no attention to noise after all Katara can't fly so sh might not even bother to hear for Katara if she can feal her movements, but then again Toph might just.... nevermind to much detail for Toph

Perfectly put, Lee Wai! One thing I would like to point out. She could tell where Aang was when he was standing still. If Katara was standing still, she would steel be able to sense her. And she wouldn't be so focused on Katara's postion. In the earthbending tourney, she focused on ways to use their position to her advantage, but she wouldn't be so focused on position that she would just be hit by water. She's not stupid.
