It's a bit hard to find out because Toph could trap Katara in a hole to immobilize her and Katara could put the water on the ground to make dirt and destabilize Toph (remember she can't exactly sense the vibrations on soft ground) or just freeze her to the ground. That's not predictable we can't really know....for now...

Hey I never thought of that. The thing is that Toph and Katara seem evenly matched in skill. Since it has already been proven that one element is not better than another, it comes down to a much smaller detail. A change of environment was all that was needed for Katara to beat Zuko in the Northpole and visa versa.

Katara would kick Toph butt in a instant. Toph hears when thing more on land. with water bending the water dosen't tought the land so Toph can't hear

katara would kick topkh BUTT. Toph would be begging for mercy after a fight with katara.plus aang would sooo help katara if they get into a fight. toph way mean to him so he would want some payback.
KATARA RULES

I think that Toph would win.

First of all, Toph would be able to feel where Katara is and what direction her attack in coming from. If she knows where it's coming from she can avoid it.

And second, all Toph would have to do is move the earth wherever Katara is standing. Katara would be so busy trying to get out of the way that she'd never have the chance to attack.

Hope that makes sense.

Katara would wipe the floor with Toph... just because Toph can see Katara's attacks coming does't mean that she can block them. And sometimes Toph won't see the attacks so Katara would defintitley win... But Katara is right they are on the same side they won't fight each other to the death.

Here's Katara's strategy to beat Toph:

1. Pick spot.
2. Stay there.
3. Shut up.
4. Bend.

Toph would know where Katara is, and would just send a rock flying by her or something. Then she'd have to move, and Toph would always know where Katara's standing.

I think Katara is an amazing fighter, but I don't see how she could beat Toph......

Well, to "pick" a spot, you have to move to that spot, which would cause vibrations. And as was mentioned previously by Joychi, just by Katara bending she is causing vibrations, because she is moving. So Toph would beable to tell where she is standing.

Normally, someone has to move their FEET for Toph to sense vibrations. If Katara just moves her hands, that won't really create a good enough vibration.

Well, if Toph can sense something as tiny as a few ants crawling around on the ground and where trees are, I'm sure that she can sense the vibrations of someone bending. There is a much larger movement in bending than in bugs crawling around and trees that are just there.

Toph would win, her senses are far beyond belief. I've seen earthbending is faster than water bending. Toph could easilly start out by trapping Katara in a pit like Sokka was, and she couldn't even bend since he hands would be to close. I think the only way Katara could win is by using Toph's blindness as a advantage like the episode "The Library" Toph couldn't see OR feel things in the desert. Or maybe if they fought near the ocean where there is no earth. All benders need their element to actually bend, if there's no water around Katara can't bend, if there's no earth Toph can't bend, and if there's no fire, Zuko, Azula and all the other people can't bend, except Aang cuz' there's always air. ;D

Katara would totally get her butt whooped if they got in a fight.

I remember when I made this thread a long time ago, anyway back on subject.

First of all, I know...Toph could feel the Vibrations in the earth to view where Katara is. But Katara can Still SEE, and no matter how good toph is by feeling vibrations, Katara will always have the advantage over Toph.

But, I still think Toph would win. I mean there are no KNOWN waterbending moves that involve someones using there feet, and along with Tai chi, foot work is missing from the style. So basically, you just pin her arms with earth, and good bye most of her waterbending!

Picture this: Katara steps in, fights with Toph, Toph does something to Katara like in the episode The Avatar State, when the general bends her into the ground, Aang goes into the Avatar State, Toph gets beaten, and Aang stays angry at Toph for a while, while Katara hooks up with Aang.
