Hi, wikigamer. I'm Karena, the Head Admin. :) Good to see you here.

As for your question, you become a staff member by being a good roleplayer, an overall good member, a dedicated member, as well as active. You do all this over a good length of time - usually at least a year - and then if there is a position open, we will PM you or open a Staff Application thread. I will also say that for more information, you should have read FAQ 1, as there's a question about that in there. :)

Azula gave a smirk at Mai’s statement. Yes, it was true… the soldiers were scared of her. The Princess actually enjoyed seeing them squirm when she spoke to them. That wasn’t the reason why she didn’t rely on them for the task, though. The Avatar’s group, even though she assumed that the Avatar was no longer alive, was large. They were powerful, and to underestimate them was foolish. Foolish was something Azula was not. For this mission, overwhelming them with numbers was not an option. They were used to fighting against larger numbers. Unless she greatly overwhelmed them, finesse was much better. That was something she, Ty Lee, and Mai had. She was certain the three of them, along with the help of some of her father’s soldiers, could get the job done.

Azula listened as Mai became anxious. It seemed that the markswoman wanted to leave sooner, rather than later. While she admired that fact that her friend wanted to leave soon and deal with this, the Princess knew that wasn’t the right path to take. “There is no need to go after them and waste our energy,” Azula told her. “We have the baby, so they will come to us and walk right into the trap that I will have set for them.” A confident smirk crossed her lips. “I know Zuko. He and Karena will come after their son, and the entire group will come with them.” She could picture it in her mind. She would set the trap, and let them believe that they were actually going to escape. After all, Zuko hadn’t been in this castle for a few years. Azula, however, was there as often as her duties allowed her to be home. “We will think that they can escape. They will be put into a false sense of security, only to trap them at the last moment.”

It was foolproof.

Mai seemed bored, and Azula realized, of course, that was why she wanted to go so badly. The Princess also thought that maybe it had something to do with the baby. She had known that Mai had a crush on her brother when they were younger, but she hadn’t thought that there was any possibility that she could still like him. If she did, it would certainly explain why she seemed to hate Nikuro so much. Yes, Azula wasn’t that fond of him either, but he suited her purposes. Everything would work out according to plan, and then she would have an heir. It wasn’t that the idea of a relationship was… foreign to her. She had thought about it, but… it wasn’t in the cards for her; she wasn’t sure if it ever would be. Unless the marriage was arranged, like her brother’s was. Look how that turned out… It seemed as if Zuko and Karena actually cared about each other now, and the princess found herself wondering when things had changed.

Pushing those thoughts of her mind, Azula focused on Mai again. “I understand, Mai,” she told her, “but be patient. The time will be here soon enough. In the meantime, why don’t you train? I’m sure that will be a good way to pass the time. Then, you can keep your skills perfected for when the time comes to put the plan into motion.” She would make sure that the soldiers were kept on alert, so that when her brother and the group did arrive, that they would be ready. Azula also planned on training. She would not let Lakano get the better of her, not again. The Master Firebender had made that mistake once by not listening to Shakhran. She would not make that mistake twice. The brunette didn’t care what her father said. She would have her chance to defeat him, and then he could be defeated by her father, as well.

Mzia - Sorry for taking so long to get to this. I will say though, that you should have PMed me, because Shtiya is Profiles Mod. :) Anyway, I understand the gist of your post, which is the most important thing. However, I don't know where she is. She could be anywhere - Avatar World or Earth. Also, a minor problem - quotations should be reserved for spoken words. It gets confusing if you're using spoken words for both speaking and thinking. It's advised that you use italics instead for thoughts. There should also always be a punctuation of some kind before the ending of a thought or a spoken sentence, ie, "I thought so," she said.) Also, you should never post in one giant chunk - always split your post up into paragraphs. Also, I have no idea what your character looks like. You can't assume that someone has read your profile. In your first post in a thread, you should make sure and give a brief description of what your character looks like. Please make these changes and post your sample again with the changes. Sorry, but for now, it's DENIED.

Karena turned her eyes to Lakano. It seemed everyone else did. She wondered when he had turned out to be the leader? Sure, Sokka, Lakano, and herself were the most vocal of the group most of the time. They were always the ones doing most of the planning, with occasional inputs from Zuko and the others. She hadn’t remembered when the Waterbender had turned out to be the leader of the group, though. It had happened so naturally. Lakano, Akita, Haru, and Makaro had only been with the group of a little over two months – the rest of a little over seven. Ever since then, the tides had been slowly shifting in his direction. Karena hadn’t noticed until just recently, though – after Aang’s injury. The firebender decided that it didn’t matter.

The blue-eyed man from the North Water Tribe had proved that he could be trusted, and not only that, but also that he was intelligent. He had made the right decision, but Zuko had a point, too. Strategically, they couldn’t use Ember Island, but they needed somewhere to train before they made their point. They were all wanted people – all except for Xiaoyu, who wasn’t a bender. Karena couldn’t help it, but she was worried… about everything. The young mother did not know what she and Zuko would do if somehow they couldn’t get their child back. The saying went that life went on, but… it would be a terrible blow.

After all, when Azula had taken him, it had taken the couple a week to get their bearings. A strong thing on her mind right now was the fact the battle at Sabaku that was encroaching closer and closer, only a little over a day away. She knew that the others could more than handle themselves, but… it didn’t stop her from being worried. After all, she was usually there for battles. The firebender wouldn’t be this time. Her body, while getting stronger by the day, was not up for a fight just yet. She would stay behind with the unconscious Avatar, and perhaps, Haru’s sister, Xiaoyu, for the young woman had no idea if the older woman could fight or not.

Of course, she mostly worried about Zuko. It was foolish, she knew that. He was a strong and capable bender, like everyone else, and could more than handle himself in a fight, but yes… she was still worried. Looking up, her brown eyes noticed Katara sitting on the other side of the table. The young waterbender seemed to be worried about something. From what Karena could see, Katara was biting her lip, and clutching her cup rather hard. Something was definitely bothering her… “Is something wrong, Katara?” If she had something on her mind, she needed to say it. This was not the time to hold things in. Not that she blamed her.

Karena worried about a lot things, too, and she wasn’t saying anything either. That was mainly because she knew that there was nothing she could do about it. Everything had already been decided, and it was mainly for the fact that she was not going to be going to Sabaku with everyone else that she was worried about that. And who could blame her for being worried about her son? Any sane mother would be… Nevertheless, she knew that she and Katara weren’t close – and never would – and that the waterbender wouldn’t hate for signaling her out. Karena honestly didn’t think anyone else was paying attention to her right now, and indeed, she had almost forgotten the brunette was even there. Besides, if something was wrong, Katara should say something, and hopefully, everyone would be able to alleviate her fears.

Karena turned her eyes to Lakano. It seemed everyone else did. She wondered when he had turned out to be the leader? Sure, Sokka, Lakano, and herself were the most vocal of the group most of the time. She hadn’t remembered when the Waterbender had turned out to be the leader of the group, though. It made for much more complicated situations when they were going back to the place that wanted most of them dead or in jail.

Karena’s family had a place on Ember Island. Prior to her banishment, they had gone there once a year during the spring or summer for peace and relaxation. Of course, she had not had any contact with her parents since Ozai had banished her so she had no idea whether or not her parents returned there for their yearly vacation. Part of her hoped that they had and that they done what they could without their daughter in their lives. Pain gripped her for a moment as she realized that she had no idea what her parents had been doing, if they were okay… what if something had happened to one of them? Chances are, she would probably never know. Maybe when she went back to the Fire Nation, she would hear a word about her father… the question was: would she even want to know?

Karena gave Quan-Li a small grateful smile, but he was too distracted to notice. Oh, well, it didn’t matter to her. She did appreciate the fact that he agreed with her, because it seemed that Kanea listened to her fiancé more than she did her. That was fine; it was as it should be. It wasn’t that the firebender didn’t understand. In fact, she was probably the only one that did. After her one night with Zuko, which was almost a year ago now, she had known that there was a good possibility that she could pregnant. She had prayed that she wasn’t, but… well, she had been, and nine months later she’d given birth to a little bundle of joy that she wouldn’t trade for anything in the world, even if Zuko hadn’t stayed with her. A smile crossed her face for a moment, because he had. Everything had been perfect, and then Azula had to get involved.

Once again, Karena was struck with how dangerous their lives were, and how they were about to get even more dangerous. Everyone except for her was about to go to Sabaku where an entire platoon was at a weapon’s depot that mainly catered to Ba Sing Se, which was now under the control of the Fire Nation – as was the entire Earth Kingdom, or the Colonies as they were called now. She had no doubt that that rest of the group could handle it, especially with the help they were going to get. Of course, they didn’t know who, how many, or anything, but it was help nonetheless. It didn’t stop the young mother from being worried, though. Some of these people she had only known for a couple of months… others, for seven, and then, naturally, there was Zuko. She knew he could more than handle himself, but she would be concerned until the battle was over and he was back here with her.

Karena put her mind back where it was supposed to be, in the discussion and not in the clouds. “Ember Island is a little ways from the capitol, but nothing too far,” she interjected. “It should be fine for somewhere out of the way to train the Avatar.” The brown-eyed young woman did not mention anyone’s fears of Aang’s condition, despite any reassurances Katara might have. “And it’s not as if it’s not the other side of the Fire Nation or anything… It might talk a little longer to get there if we’re walking instead of riding something, but…” She shrugged. “Sounds like a good plan to me.” She gave Zuko a smile real quick, before turning back to Lakano to see what reaction the Waterbender might have, wondering again when he became the leader of their group.

Lakano looked at Zuko as he continued to speak. He had been about to say something when Karena interjected a comment as well. Listening to the couple, it seemed like a perfectly good plan to him. A little ways away from the capital and with an abandoned beach house that was out of the way, where no prying eyes were. Zuko could train the Avatar in peace, and the rest of them would have no fear that someone would see their Waterbending or Earthbending and turn them in. First, though, they would have to go and meet Haru’s father, a thought that Lakano dreaded for more than one reason. Yes, Xiaoyu said he was reasonable, and he was inclined to agree with her, but… He knew that their father did not agree with Haru’s choice in lovers, so it would be an awkward meeting to say the least.

“Sounds like a plan to me,” Lakano said aloud, taking his mind off the fact that he would be meeting his boyfriend’s father back to the matter at hand. “So, the day after tomorrow we’re off to liberate Sabaku –“ Or what’s left of it, Lakano thought to himself. “- then after that, we’re off to the Fire Nation, then Haru’s tea shop outside the capitol where we’ll meet with Haru and Xiaoyu’s dad and hopefully make him see our point of view, then we’re off to Ember Island, and the abandoned vacation home of Zuko’s family.” He was intelligent enough to realize that things never went as planned, but it sounded well enough for him. Something was bound to go wrong somewhere, but there was nothing any of them could do about it. All they could do was follow their plans to the best of their ability, and deal with any bumps in the road when they came along.

Lakano would never speak his fears allowed that there would not be much left of Sabaku when they got there. He had seen with his own eyes the start of the destruction, and he didn’t think that Shakhran and his troops would stop there. He feared what they would find, or worse, that they wouldn’t find anything. He knew Akita worried about her parents, and the Waterbender didn’t blame her in the least. If would hurt her deeply if something had happened to them and she hadn’t been there to help. Not that it would have mattered. If she hadn’t left, she would have been killed for being a bender. He couldn’t keep his mind on that, as thoughts of meeting his boyfriend’s father crept in, leaving him to think, What would my parents think about this if I ever get the chance to tell them? He had never thought it was possible for him to be gay until he met Haru, so they, of course, had never known. What would they think?

Quan-Li had been slowly eating the food that Karena had cooked. He had debated about saying something to Kanea, but Karena had gotten to it first. His brown eyes sent the firebender an appreciative look, but he stayed quiet. It wasn’t that he didn’t care. The earthbender loved his swordswoman. His mind went back to a day many months ago when he and Karena had gotten into an argument. He had been insistent that he’d loved Kanea, even though they had only known each other a few weeks, if that. As was usual with him, he got very defensive when challenged. He had made a low blow remarking on her relationship with Zuko, since then the two were merely engaged, but not together, and Karena was nearly five months pregnant at the time with the banished prince’s child.

The firebender had been insistent that it wasn’t love, because you actually had to know someone in order to love them. She had told him that she loved Zuko, because she knew him – the good and the bad. The fight had ended with Karena throwing a fireball within inches of his head, delivering a promised threat to him if he ever insulted her like that again. He didn’t doubt her. She was a fierce warrior and a fierce lover. He glanced at Zuko and Karena, and could see simply by the way they acted towards each other that what they were feeling was real. Had she been right all along? Was this just infatuation and the two of them had gotten in way over their heads?

It had been a few days since that night… Kanea and Quan-Li had gone on a walk together, which had ended up with them in the washroom. Months of pent up sexual attraction had let loose, and the two of them had ended up in the tub together. He knew it had been a mistake. Considering the circumstances of their lives, it had been stupid. It had been so wonderful, though, and she didn’t seem to mind too much. Of course, after that, they had both realized what they had done – as well as the consequences that could happen because of that night. What if he had gotten her pregnant? Every member of their team was valuable, and they might have taken her out of the fight, so to speak.

Quan-Li had missed Zuko and Karena leaving, but when the firebenders had come back, Karena had told Kanea to eat again. His fiancée had been upset and walked out, but returned shortly after. He watched her with his brown eyes, and noticed that she was still not eating anything. “Kanea, Karena is right,” he told her. “You need to eat. Think of what would happen in the fight if you starve yourself.” He paused for a moment, searching her face for a reaction. “I wouldn’t want anything to happen to you.” His voice had a somber note to it, but it was clear that he meant every word. He debated on telling her to apologize to Karena, but he had never apologized for some of the things he’d said to her, so that would be kind of hypocritical of him.

Sokka listened to the goings on around him. He didn’t think he had ever been so tired in his life. Makaro was a tough teacher, and the older man had been drilling him the past few days since they had arrived at this little village. The master swordsman had told the boy from the Water Tribe that he was a natural, and would one day be a master – just like him. He didn’t feel that he was catching on quite as well as he had wanted to, though. Makaro assured him that it would come with time and practice. He had to make sure that the blue-eyed young man was fully prepared for the upcoming fight with Sabaku. He knew that he had an advantage over most new students of the sword because he had been in fights before.

Sokka was brought out of his reverie when Zuko and Karena left after the banished prince told his fiancée that he needed to talk to her. Narrowing in his eyes in confusion, he continued eating. They returned in a few minutes, the female firebender mothering Kanea for the second time that evening. Regardless of whether or not she was right, it was still funny, and caused Sokka to chuckle lightly, especially since Quan-Li agreed with Karena. Sure, she had been right to begin with, but it was still amusing. The young man had to mentally remark once again that the couple that argued the least was the ones not talking right now. More and more he found that relationships confused him. As normally happened, a conversation was struck up and it was serious… as usual.

As it turned out, since Iroh would not be joining them, their leverage with Haru and Xiaoyu’s father was gone. “Great, I just knew it couldn’t be that easy,” he said aloud. He listened as Zuko and Iroh spoke their bits, but found himself agreeing with the newest addition to their group as he let his more calculating side take over. “I agree with Xiaoyu,” said Sokka. “No offense and I’m sure Ember Island would a good in-between place, but how far is it from the Capital? We need a close place, and it sounds as if their father’s place will be much closer.” He turned his blue eyes towards Lakano, waiting for him to speak, noticing that Akita, Makaro, and Karena had looked towards the tall Waterbender as well. “Of course, if he doesn’t agree, we will have a problem, but I trust that they know their father well enough.”

Why are they all looking at me? Lakano thought to himself as many members of the group turned their eyes towards him. Some had said their piece, and why was it up to him to decide? It seemed that he had been named unofficial leader. The brunet was confused as to why, but he couldn’t do anything to change it now. Blue eyes looked carefully at the members of the group sitting around the table. It always seemed that since mealtimes were the only time they really had to sit together, it was the only time they had discuss the matters of their mission – and there were no light hearted ones among them. Once more, the Waterbender found himself realizing more and more how serious this matter was that he had gotten them into. With the Avatar unconscious in the next room, there seemed to be one problem after another.

Thinking about the words that had been said, Lakano knew he needed to be sure when he spoke. Zuko and Iroh brought up good points, but so did Xiaoyu. Sokka agreed with her, and despite his outward attitude at times, the brunet knew that the young man was far from stupid. On the one hand, they did not want to turn into people like the Ozai and Azula, and he could see why that would matter so much to the Fire Lord’s brother and son. After all, they were trying to get away from that… they didn’t need to be involved with anyone like that. On the other hand, unless Ember Island was very close the capital – and that was highly unlikely – it was not a good strategic place to go, as Sokka had pointed out. On that note, Xiaoyu was under the impression that her father could be reasoned with.

Since she and Haru knew him better that anyone else here at the table – after all, he was their father, and none of the rest of them had met him – he was inclined to agree with her words on the matter. Turning his blue eyes to look into the golden ones of his boyfriend, Lakano took a deep breath. “I agree with Xiaoyu,” he said aloud, his baritone voice the only thing that could be heard amongst the silence of the room. “Sokka also brings up a good point. While Ember Island – wherever it may be – would be nicer for not disturbed, Haru’s teashop would better strategically, since it’s closer to our end game.” His eyes flicked to Xiaoyu for a moment, before scanning the group. “We need someone inside the capital to help us, and if Xiaoyu thinks we can convince her father… I’m going to agree with her. After all, she and Haru would be the best judges on that matter.”

Lakano paused for a moment. “We will need a place to train, though… the Avatar will need it, as will we all, and training while inside the capital or near it is out of the question for some of us,” he pointed out. The brunet paused again as he allowed himself to get his thoughts into order. “It might good for us to find a place where we can train in peace… somewhere where some Earthbending and Waterbending won’t be noticed quite as easily.” Provided Ember Island was not out of their way, then it wouldn’t be a bad idea, at least has an in between place. “After all, we can’t stay in the Earth Kingdom forever, but training will be much more difficult for some of us once we leave it.” He decided to stop there. As much as he hated the idea of meeting his boyfriend’s father – who hated his son’s “lifestyle choice” – it was the best course of action in his opinion. They need help, and Karena had already pointed out that her father was too close to the Fire Lord to be considered.

Yukino - Much better! Just one little thing... It seems that you're a little confused as to what you're asking for. If you had just posted in a thread for the first time, people would not understand your posts because they don't know who your character or what she looks like. You can't assume that they have read your profile. On that note, I would like you to go and edit your profile once and say that as well as where she is. Is the on Earth, or in Avatar World? I am confused, because it could be either one. Please make these changes. Thank you. Once again, DENIED.

Kaato - I'm not sure you're understanding I'm asking for, because I think this sample isn't as good as the last one. I still have no idea where your character is or what he looks like. I wasn't sure that the part in itailcs was a dream or what it was utnil the end. Why did he dream it, because it seems unrealistic that he would have a premonition. You do not have to re-write a new sample. Like Yukino, you can work with the one you posted. Regarldess, your second sample is also DENIED.

Yukino - I think that your post is a good start. You've got the right idea, I think, but I just don't think you have enough of if. It's just that - a start. Your spelling and grammar seems good, and it's very clear that the character is in pain. However, I don't know who this character is, who Kitua is, why he or she is important to her, why he or she left, where the main character is at the moment... You need more description, in other words, more explanation. Other than that, like I said, you're on the right track, I just need more of it. :)

Please make the changes to your post and then post it again. For now, it's DENIED.

For those of you who are new, you probably have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. For those of you who were around last year, then I figure you know what this is. For those who don't, let me explain. :)

Our 5-Year Anniversary is on October 8th. Every year, we have a little RP carnival to celebrate, with some casual RP's, and contests. (Check out last years in the archives if you want to see more of what it's about.) Every year, no matter how early we start (we started in June last year) we always run out of time. So, this year, we're starting extra early.

We plan on having the same contests we did last year, but of course, we want other threads, too. We're implemting something new this year. This year, we're going to let members run their own threads. An RP group can come up with an idea they'd like to see in this year's carnival! And don't worry if it doesn't work, then you can always try again next year!

This is going to be our 5 Year Anniversary, so we want it to be special!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Since no one in this thread is around anymore, I think you're better off posting in the "I Need Someone to RP with!" thread after you're character is approved and you've finished your exemption.

OOC: The gAang does use a lot of red, doesn’t it, lol.

As Lakano walked back to the Inn, he noticed Haru and his sister hanging back. Glancing back with his blue eyes, he shrugged, and continued. Haru knew the way back. It seems as if there was a problem with Geng Kai. As it was, the Waterbender had been getting a bad feeling from him. He didn’t know Xiaoyu, but he trusted her because he was in love with her brother. Her brother trusted him, and that was all the reason he needed. However, Haru didn’t seem to keen on the Geng Kai, either, which went along with the feeling that the brunet had been getting. He had learned to trust his feelings, and he would be hard pressed to convince the others to let him go along if neither Haru nor he had good feelings about him.

Maybe he was leaving… he could tell that Xiaoyu liked him, so that would be bad for her, but better for everyone else. As Lakano went into the room, he took some of the food that Karena had prepared. Giving her quick thanks, he went to sit down. Blue eyes glanced up to see his lover and his sister walking in. Xiaoyu seemed a bit shaken. Maybe there was more between her and Geng Kai than he originally thought, because the other man had followed the two of them in. It seems as if he’s not coming with us, he thought to himself. As much as he felt bad for Haru’s sister, the Waterbender thought it was for the best. The brunet had gotten a bad feeling from Xiaoyu’s “friend”, and thought it was for the best that he was not coming up with them. It was better for everyone else that Geng Kai was not coming with.

Things would be simpler now. Haru told him that the two of them had a falling out, which went with his assumptions. However, it was what his lover had told him before that that had concerned him. A groan escaped his lips. This was not good… none of them had thought about the fact that the only reason that Haru and Xiaoyu’s father was letting them stay with them because of General Iroh… the person who was leaving tomorrow. A deep sighed escaped his lips, the food forgotten on the plate before him. “Everyone, I hate to break up this peace and quiet, but Haru has informed of something that we all need to be aware of.” His blue eyes looked at everyone in turn before he spoke. “The only reason that Haru and Xiaoyu’s father was letting us stay was because of General Iroh, who’s not coming with us.” He paused for a moment to let that sink in. “Which means that we have a very serious problem.”

Lakano racked his brain to think of something. There had to be another solution… Karena had told before that her father would let them stay, because he had no love of the Fire Lord. However, her father was also much closer to Ozai than Haru and Xiaoyu’s father. It was much more dangerous to stay there, especially since the young mother informed that he lived within viewing distance of the castle. It would a lot easier to be caught there, which was why they had originally gone with Haru and Xiaoyu’s father. That brought its own set of problems, though, as he was much more loyal to the Fire Lord than Karena’s father was. He ate a piece of food and as he tried to think of something, but nothing came to mind. There had to be a solution to this problem, despite how hard it may seem at the time. Regardless, the group needed to get into the castle, and without some help from the inside, that would be very difficult.
“There has to be something we can do,” Lakano said aloud, not really talking to anyone except himself. “It’s not as if we can just tell him that the Fire Nation is ruled by a power-crazed maniac and his psychopathic daughter. No offense, Zuko.” The idea seemed truly ridiculous to him as he said it aloud. After all, how often were your problems solved by taking? If life was that simple, all the Avatar had to do was to go to Fire Lord and tell him he was a moron, that he needed to step down and never cause any trouble every again. Heh, please, yeah right… the very idea of explaining in the situation to Haru’s father – who probably wouldn’t be very please with him anyway – seemed laughable, but it was the only idea that was coming to Lakano’s mind.

“I can’t think of anything else.” Lakano looked around at the group to see their reactions. “If that really is our only option,” he said, turning to Haru, “we either have to convince him, or make sure he doesn’t tell anyone about us.” His voice took on a slightly darker tone as he spoke, meaning it for his lover than anyone else. The Waterbender knew that they would be able to let Haru’s father leave if he didn’t agree with them. Yes, it was true that each of them a story that proved that Ozai was insane. Sure, his own was tied to Akita’s, but most of them had in some way either been hurt by the Fire Nation because of Ozai’s actions or seen what they could do. It would make things a lot easier if their father agreed with their stories, but he had no idea if he truly believed in what the Fire Nation was doing, or like some was simply ignorant of their true actions.
