Okay, I'm sure everyone has considered being able to bend other things other than the fire, earth, water or air. And though its unlikely, wouldn't it be nifty if some other less known bending styles showed up in avatar? If Avatar stays popular long enough, they may want to take it beyond 4 books, so having other benders show up would be way to prolong teh series.
We know that bending was inspired by 4 martial arts. With the hundreds of arts that exist in china alone Im sure some of them could make bender material.
What do you all think of the idea? Would you enjoy seeing other types of benders? What kinds?

lol... i dont think its possible because the the world is full up of benders. theres no uncharted territory although in the day and age depicted it is VERY possible that there is some more land out in the middle of the ocean that no one has found yet....
maby an animal bender? lol best i could come up with seeing as there isnt much else left to bend other than trees....

hmm there could be a light bender in the middle of the ocean o an uncharted island that no one knows about, bla bla bla. I don't think there would be somthing like that, however it is cool to think about.

Personally I would enjoy seeing some other types of benders.
Bending Element: Void
Nation Loyalty/Association: Fire Nation
Explanation: According to the classical elements of Hinduism, there would be a fifth element of the Void. It could be based on Southern Shaolin, enforcing using fists and punches whereas Fire bending is based on Northern Shaolin and focuses on kicks and arcs. Technically speaking, a Void-bender would be able to bend gravity to the extent of opening small black holes in their area, from which they draw the anti-matter they use. Whenever anti-matter comes in contact with matter the result is that both are destroyed. In practical terms, it would act like a black fire disintegrating everything in its path until it fizzled out. (On a side-note if Void-benders were in the show they would have to be largely de-powered due to the fact that if they utilized the full potential of their abilities they would be nearly unstoppable.)
RP Application: The Void-bender extended his hands to his sides, concentrating his energy until the localized gravity pulled directly beneath his palm. As the gravitational strength increased, even light could not escape its grasp, forming two black holes. Taking a deep breath, the Void-bender drew a string of energies from the openings. It was a peculiar sight to behold as the energy was comprised of a color blacker than black. Leaping a short distance before him, the Void-bender punched the air, the void energies swirling around his arms before hurtling towards the tree before him. The mass of destruction seemed to eat away the very air itself, leaving an empty expanse in its wake. As it came in contact with the tree, the dark power consumed it, leaving nothing in its path.
The next two could possibly be grouped together:
Bending Element: Metal
Nation Loyalty/Association: Earth Kingdom
Explanation: Metal bending would be based on the Chinese style of Choy Lee Fut which is characterized by long, swinging, circular movements and twisting body motions. Metal is the fourth of the classical Chinese elements, the fifth being wood since air is omitted. Metal benders could bend the metal used in the Fire nation war machines. Most of them would carry their own metal while traveling since it is not found in nature.
Bending Element: Wood
Nation Loyalty/Association: Earth Kingdom
Explanation: Wood bending would be based on the martial arts style of Xingyiquan, characterized by aggressive, linear movements and explosive power. A wood bender would be able to cause plants/trees to rapidly sprout from the ground and also cause them to retract back to their roots.
RP Application: The wood bender rushed at his opponent, stretching his hand to the ground and thrusting it in a line before him, causing roots to burst from the dirt and grow together, forming a spiked tree trunk inches before his opponents face.
The metal bender leapt over the tree, sprinting down its side as he revealed two metallic spheres from compartments in his vest. As he ran the bender flattened the spheres, shaping them into two discs which he promptly launched at his assailant.
At the last second, the wood bender threw his arms in front of his face, sprouting a tree from the ground and causing the metallic discs to embed themselves in the trunk. The wood bender jumped over his shield and towards his victim.
The metal bender smirked as he summoned the metallic discs from behind the wood bender. Sensing the danger, the wood bender slung himself into the air, while the metallic discs flew over and under him. Working quickly, the metal bender reshaped the discs into twin spikes, impaling his opponent on his own tree.

interesting. Te "void" bender would be too powerful tho. However, the metel and wood benders seem reasonable. The avatar people will stick to using Water,Earth, Fire, and Air because they are the 4 great elements of our world. But still, cool ideas.

Yeah, I think they will stay true to the 4 elements. But a shadow bender? that sounds cool. They could manipulate shadows, and dissappear into shadows. They'd make good assasins.

Personally, I don't believe in any other bending possibilities. I mean, if we went with every possible bending art, then we would drive ourselves mad. I mean the elements are in Chinese, Japanese, Greek, and other mythologies. Each one varies, as well.

Hey, we're not talking about all of them.
I thought about something, though... What if someone could just bend force? What I mean is, just throw your arms forward and the person flies backwards? Or if they were just in mid-air, and they make a slight movement, and a crater forms out of nowhere? Like a ghostly force, lol...

Well... The show uses the greek elements
The chinese elements are water, fire, metal, wood, and earth
The japanese are earth, fire, wind, water, and "void"
So I guess that could possibly add wood, metal and void as bending arts... but... I guess the two former would probably fall under earth... and the latter could make a nifty.. anti-bending style ^^;
An art designed to fight other benders... using the movements of Wing Chun!

No, not telekinesis... Telekinesis is like with individual things. Just like... Anything. They might be too powerful, but think about it... Wouldn't it be awesome?

I think a cool new bending would be mind bending, yah know like you could get under peoples skin and stuff and find things that bother them, and their true feelings and stuff like that, you could also like turn them crazy or something.
