"We'll be very busy on the Solstice, love," Hyuk-jae said. "Remember?" Glancing at Nagisa, he held out a hand for his teacup. "Here." Nima's cup looked a little low, too. Hyuk-jae offered the large woman more tea, too.
Nagisa gave him a look that was both grateful and terrified, if such a thing was possible. He could already see Nima visibly bristle at both the endearment and Hyuk-jae offering to refill her tea cup.
"I can do it myself," she snapped, grabbing the teapot out of Hyuk-jae's hands. Nagisa winced, fully expecting the teapot to crash violently to the floor and spill tea everywhere; luckily, it didn't.
For the rest of the hour, Nima tried to (not-so-)subtly get Nagisa to tell her what his plans were. Nagisa played stupid. When Nima mentioned how lonely solstice would be, he reminded her of her "big party"; when she bemoaned about how she never got to see him, Nagisa said they were seeing each other right now; when she complained that all he ever did was work, he said that he had to pay his bills somehow.
Finally, Nima pressed him about exchanging gifts; seeing no way around it without very obviously communicating his dislike for her terrible taste in everything, Nagisa agreed. The portly lady seemed overjoyed, gushing about how she would find the perfect gift for him, and saying she hoped he remembered their past conversations so he could get her a gift she would enjoy as well. Nagisa nodded and agreed enthusiastically, but felt trapped inside; he had no recollection of what Nima did and did not like. He made a mental note to ask Hyuk-jae for help with ideas. Of course, he'd have to get something for Soon Hee as well, they were both his clients after all, even if he shared them now with Hyuk-jae.
Nima departed in high spirits, her quiet friend in tow. Nagisa sighed audibly once she was out of the main hall and the door shut firmly behind her. "Jeepers," he said, feeling exhausted. "What is her problem? She's never acted like this before, and she seems to be getting worse each time I see her. He flagged down a server and requested more black sesame seed bars. Grinning at Hyuk-jae, he touched his face. "If this keeps up I'll get wrinkles much too soon," he joked, making light of the situation.
Almost instantly, though, he sobered up again. "Seriously," he muttered, accepting the plate of snacks gratefully. "I really wish I knew what was going on with her. And what I should get her for solstice."
