Getting to Know:
Naota
1. What is your character's name?Naota. Just Naota.
2. Where is your character from?Naota was born and lived his entire life in a small village located in the heart of the Earth Kingdom.
3. What is your character's age?He just turn eleven year old.
4. What does your character look like?Naota is an obvious child. He is short and has a fragile build. The young boy is practically skin and bones, despite his tendency to eat like a human garbage disposal. His hair is a chest nut brown and sits atop his head like a giant uncontrollable jungle. Like most others in the Earth Kingdom, he has green eyes. Naota's green eyes are light in shade and have an almost beautiful ethereal glow to them. Though all of the other aspects of his appearance seem to stick with the Earth Kingdom norm, Naota has the skin of his mother. His skin is fair and pale, like those from the Fire Nation. Everything seems to come together to make the whole picture what everyone knows as Naota. Even his awkward features such as his hands being a little too big for his body, and his "kinda big" ears that are hidden behind the monstrosity that he calls hair. In the end, Naota could be summed up into one word: cute.
As for clothes, Naota doesn't particularly stick with a single outfit. He does however prefer to wear a certain type of clothes. Earthy colors are his favorite, though he wouldn't mind wearing blues and whites. Reds, oranges, and yellows are something that would need to be forced onto Naota. He just doesn't like them. Naota's attire consists usually of a short sleeves shirt, a jacket, a pair of pants that aren't too long or big but not small on him, and pair of shoes or sandals depending on the weather. If he finds himself in cold terrain, he may sport a thicker jacket and a scarf.
5. Give a detailed history of your character. Who are your parents? Are they alive? If not, what happened? Tell us what happened to character in their life so far.Naota was born in a small village located in the heart of the Earth Kingdom. There he was raised by his parents: an Earth bender and a woman from a rich family in the Fire Nation who was banished. He was also always looked over by the village elders. The village was located in one of the many mountain ranges across the entire kingdom. It was a close nit community and they were self-sufficient. They would have to be because not many people passed through there.
From an early age everyone could tell that Naota was gifted. Though they were a small village, they had an academy with learned teachers and the resources to contact a specialist. And that is exactly what they did. A specialist was summoned to the village from Ba Sing Se and he examined Naota and gave him a series of tests and puzzles. Naota easily passed them and with flying colors. The man declared the boy a genius and gave a declaration of the fact. It was so rare that someone so intelligent came out of a place in the middle of no where.
Naota was raised as a virtuous young lad and was taught in the way of Earthbending by his father. He also was personally tutored by the village elders (since he was passing out of the academy too easily) and also studied many different martial arts styles. One of elder in particular, the oldest of them, taught young Naota the stances and forms of the ancient airbenders. That was taken by the boy and integrated into his Earthbending to create his signature style of rending the earth.
One day when he was about nine years old a mysterious man came passing through the small village. The man did not give his name, the man did not give the name of the place where he came from, the man did not tell anyone anything. Therefore, he came to be known as the mysterious traveler. He was a swordsman and while he was in the village inn (which was scarcely used) Naota came to him and begged him to teach him how to wield and use a sword. Naota wanted to learn as much as possible, and there were no swordsman in the village at all.
For months, Naota studied swordsmanship under the man. He learned a lot, as well as training techniques that he could use for his bending. The hardest thing however was making the sword an extension of his own body. The idea of become one with an inanimate object was something Naota couldn't fathom. But he eventually was able to do it and became pretty good at using a blade. The style of fighting that used a sword to do most of the blows fit Naota, it used tactics and that was something the genius was good at. Before the mysterious traveler left he gave Naota a hand made sword. It's blade was made of obsidian, as black as night, and it was a beautiful piece of work.
When Naota was ten he decided that he would leave his home when he graduated from the academy (which most left when they were sixteen at least) to pursue his fortune and his dreams. His parents supported him to the fullest. Finally, he graduated from the academy at the age of eleven and left the village promising one day to return. He wanted to become a legend, especially after hearing about the return of the avatar. Naota said "Who says you have to be the avatar, a person who can bend all the elements, to be legendary and to effect the whole world. I'll show the world different."
And so the beginning of Naota's Adventures had begun.
6. What does your character like? Dislike?Naota likes almost everything. But if you had to choose a few things they would be: food, naps, traveling, and playing games. His favorite foods are anything that is sweet; Naota personally likes candy the best. Taking naps are relaxing and he likes to take them every now and then. Traveling is one of the reasons why he is currently traveling around the world to become the greatest of the great. Being a kid he would obviously like playing games of all kinds, especially ones he never played before (they give him something new and different to be good at).
First of all, Naota dislikes fiery colors such as red, orange, and yellow. Mind you he won't act negatively towards them or anything, he just doesn't like those colors (especially for clothes). He also doesn't like bad people (who are just plain hateful and evil), nor does he like bad tasting food (he practically hates it, but he'd probably still eat it anyways).
7. What are some good traits of your character? Bad?Naota has many good traits. First and foremost, he has the intelligence level of a genius. This is an asset when it comes to being a member of a team. He could quickly find ways around obstacles and challenges. And during battle he could plan a tactical way of taking down the enemy as quick as possible and with the lowest number of casualties and mishaps.
He is also a nice and fun person to be around: a true friend. Naota doesn't give up on anyone and will remain faithful to them forever. If someone asked him to do something he'd more than likely do it without even questioning. Speaking of questioning, he takes a strong interest in the welfare of others and will try his hardest to make everything okay.
Sadly, not all of Naota's traits are good. One of his bad traits are his eating habits. Though he is in shape and healthy he eats like a garbage disposal (in other words anything that doesn't eat him first). This is a costly diet and anyone caught traveling with him may find themselves with lighter pockets in no time.
Another negative part to Naota is the fact that he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He's not afraid to cry in front of someone, and at the same time he's not afraid to blow his top and throw a fit of anger. Because of his overly strong emotions he's easy to predict and manipulate. It may also be a tad annoying every now and then. Naota also has little to no common sense. If he became a teacher he'd be the "No-SENSEi".
8. Does your character bend? What level of training is your character at? Who taught your character?Naota is an Earth Bender. He learned from his father who was a Master at the art and who studied the creatures who the bending of earth originated from (the Badgermoles). Because he is young and no prodigy at Earthbending, Naota has reached a level only a step above the basics. Lacking in raw power and skill, Naota makes up for in technique. He has learned many different martial arts styles and forms (stances) of Earth Bending. This includes: Praying Mantis Style, Hung Gar Style (the usual style of bending earth), Ba Gua (airbending), and a style similar to boxing.
Naota hopes to one day master bending to the point of bending through pure concentration (neutral jing), and maybe even learn to see through Earth Bending (though he had only heard a few whispers and rumors of such a feat). He also hopes to incorporate the other Bending styles into his Earthbending and to also incorporate many other martial arts styles. That is why he studied and learned so many styles of fighting, including swordsmanship.
9. What does your character like doing? What do they not enjoy doing? Naota enjoys doing a lot of things. He really likes to learn. Learning is fun for him and he likes to learn as much as possible and about anything. From random facts, to new fighting styles, to more information on what he already knew. More so, Naota enjoys practicing his earth bending. One of his goals is to become the greatest Earth Bender of all time. This goal cannot be reached by sitting around and doing nothing. Therefore he trains as much as he could to reach the legendary status of the art of bending.
He also enjoys eating. Eating anything. Even if the food tastes horrible he'd still eat it. Another thing that he enjoys is hanging out with friends. Being around people that he enjoys being around. It sounds like common sense right? This is probably the only common sense in Naota. He enjoys making as much friends as possible, and one day wishes to have friends all around the world. Finally, Naota enjoys traveling and going on adventures.
There is only one thing that Naota does not enjoy doing and that is pointless fighting. Mindless violence is exactly that to the boy genius: mindless. If there is no gain from the fighting then Naota sees no point in the fighting at all. Obviously this does not count towards things like self defense or training.
10. What or who is important to your character and why?Naota is young and has only known a life within the village he grew up (at least until recently when he left to go on his journey). Therefore, there is not much that he holds important in his life. The most obvious one would be his family. Naota's father and mother are one of the most important things to him and mean more than any material good. There would also be all of the people in the village where he grew up. Secondly, the earth and planet itself is very important to the young boy. This is because he has understood something that no other kid his age (unless they are the avatar, someone who is wise, or someone who is as intelligent as he is) understands. The earth is where all life thrives off of and comes from, it is also the source of his power as an Earthbender.
11. What or who is your character afraid of and why? What is your character’s greatest fear and why?Once again, Naota is young and hasn't fully experienced the world yet. Therefore, he hasn't encountered anything or anyone who he is actually afraid. That is except for his mother. When he didn't do his chores or did something bad his mother got furious. And when his mother gets angry it's a scary sight to behold, and that is the one person Naota is terrified of. Other than that, he hopes to see many things that will make him afraid as he travels across the many lands.
Naota's greatest fear is not being able to achieve his dream of becoming one of the most legendary people in history. If he doesn't achieve his dream he will die and be forgotten and more importantly he'd be a loser in the game of life and a failure on his own personal quest. This is why he reaches an almost inhuman level of determination that allows him to go over his limitations whenever something is in the way of him achieving his dreams.
12. What is your character’s goal(s) in life and why?A Dreamer. Naota aspires to be the greatest Adventurer, Explorer, Traveler, Earth Bender, Martial Artist, Swordsman, and Musician someday. Yeah, he has big dreams. He sums his dream up as "To become one of the greatest people in History one day, and be known by everyone worldwide." That was the reason he left his home to travel the world and learn and do as much as he could. To experience life and chase his dream of becoming the best of the best. When Naota sets his mind on something he puts his whole person into (mind, soul, and body) and never gives up. At times he could be headstrong, but he loves to learn from others by watching and will admit not being as good as someone (though he proclaims that he'll one day defeat them). Naota chases this goal for the simple and pure reason of becoming a legend. Childish yes, but he
is a child after all.
