As a martial artist I look at the styles that inspired the bending art....and with that I can't even come close to chosing a favorite. I dig firebenders and earthbenders the mostest though..... I prefer external arts a smidge more.
Then again, baguazhang and taiji are sooo pretteh... air and water benders are the pwns...

According to my Zodiac sign which is King Bumi's pet, My favorite bending style is Earthbending. Also, Earth is strong, hard to break (so it can destroy), and it's a protection against the firenation.

Earth... its just strong and yet it can be used as a protective force as well. In a way it is similar to the other elements...
Fire- strong and aggressive... well there isn't much stronger than stone and rock. Its sturdy and powerfull.
Air- Airbenders rest on the idea of avoiding attacks, well Earthbenders praise thinking before acting but at least they realize when the time for action is...
Water- Water is a big defensive thing... its about flow and turning an opponents power against them. Well in different ways Earth has many defensive strengths.
I think they all share aspects in some ways if you look for them but I dunno I just like Earth bending more than the rest.

After reflection, I like the style water bending best. The concept is that water is constantly in motion, conforms to any container. By nature water is able to adapt to anything despite the hottest flame or the coldest environment.
I disagree with the idea that water is largely defensive. In fact, water in theory has a very strong offence that adapts to any thing the opponent has to offer. Merely using an opponent’s strength against them is one of many tactics at a water benders disposal.

Earthbenders. It helps that I know the style of martial arts Toph bends with(southern mantis kung fu). But still. If it werent for Toph, Water'd be my favorite, but Toph is like me cept with all that girlishness. Her style of bending if you watch it, still relies on strength, but also on motion, watchfullness, and the ability to adapt, and snap back much harder. Interesting Fact: Southern Mantis utilizes a little-known style of punching called extended-arm punching. You dont retract your fist, meaning punches come faster without the cost of strength. I can actually punch with more force without withdrawing my arm than if I do.
That reflects really well how Toph fights, hit once then keep it up, never pausing, just hitting and hitting until the oponent bites the dust.
one more thing: TOPH!
thank you.

To Halaku: Airbending comes from movement. You see how Aang always has to move around to attack. He has to spin, jump forward, and something like that.
BOS: I like Waterbending the most. It is fluid and quick, and a very agile element. I agree with what Do Sho said. Water isn't devensive, but counters. If it were defensive, then waterbenders would use a lot of ice to block attacks, but they will attack with their opponent's attack.

MMkay, on magma, I'd have to say it would fall under fire, stone, or water.
Waterbenders could control the fluidity, Fire the heat, and Earth the stone.

The votes for airbending is sad... ;_; I suppose there just aren't enough people born under air signs out there...
As an aquarius, air holds a special place in my heart. It's in constant motion, and has a style all it's own. And let's be realistic here--I wanna' be able to fly!
I also love water, mainly for the fluidity and smoothness of the moves. Love love.

Yes. I agree Arashiko. If I had a choice of any to be able to use, it would be Airbending.
[rant] Imagine the possibilites. In sports, fighting, showing off, having fun. The awesomeness amazes me. But Earthbending is tied for 1st. Water and Fire tie in 2nd. Water would be fun, but fire would make me laugh evily, the way I do when I make a flamethrower out of a can of flammable liquid and a lighter. Then again, water would be fun when your swimming. Go REALLY fast. But you could just propel yourself with Airbending. It would be fun to jump off of really high places too. Like buidings. Imagine Urban Jumping enhanced with Airbending.

(((That was pretty darn close to a rant..if not a full fledged rant..so Ill add this...)))

I guess so. But the what element you bend says something about your charactor. Each require a different behavior to work. Or at least that was the impression I got from Iroh. Maybe more people have a head on aditud to life.

Well, from how Iroh acts, I'd expect him to be an airbender. That's just me. Zhao and Azula show the opposite ends on what a firebender personality is, and Katara and Toph are steriotypical benders of their kind.

I think you under estamate the old guy. I mean he is/was a general. Nearly brought Ba Sing Sa to its knees. "Dragon of the west." Sure he isn't as cruel as Azula, but he is plenty agressive. He just seems to have a better control of his mind.

You're completely sick, aren't you ? You can die with your own Fire. It won't protect you against anything and may kill you if you're not careful enough. Look at a rock. It can protect you, it can break your arms and legs, it can crush you...it can do many things. It's like fire and also defensive. But if you're a conqueror...Forget what I said.
