He was cold. He wasn't nervous. That's why he was shivering. He most definitely wasn't nervous.
Yutaka Mifune was calm and not prone to self-doubt. He had the perfect gift for Ren'ai and was utterly certain that the fancy party they were going to would not be a catastrophe.
He repeated this mantra over and over but still could not believe it.
It was his first Winter Solstice with a...Yutaka paused and tried to think of role that Ren'ai played in his life and no word did that justice. She was the reason that the Winter Soltice was a holiday and not just a really short, really cold day.
A third mint found its way into Yutaka's mouth on the ride to Ren'ai's apartment. It should have been funny that a man in his early twenties who lived away from home was trying to hide his smoking from his parents but it wasn't. Given his level of stress Yutaka was tempted to stuff his entire pack of gray Fire Nation produced cigarettes into his mouth and have them lit by a fireball.
Once he stood up after leaving the back seat of his parents' satomobile Yutaka straightened his silver colored tie and tucked in his black shirt into his pants...which he had then notice were starting to slip downward.
Losing some weight had advantages but descending slacks was not one. As annoying as it was, the fact that he had to readjust his belt was a source of pride. The new, merely moderately pudgy Yutaka Mifune now had a foundation of muscle below like wood coated in rubber. He knew he'd never be one of those beautifully sculpted Pro Benders but he liked the idea of one day being one of the guys at work who could take his shirt off during hot days without shame.
Yutaka ran his hand over his hair and once more fretted over the loose versus ponytail debate that he waged with himself. He decided on loose and buzzed the intercom for Ren'ai's room.
"Um, hey, yeah, it's Yutaka...Mifune. I'm here to pick up Ren'ai. There's this party at my parent's place and I don't want to go, really, but I also can't not go and...so...is Ren'ai ready?"
He hoped that Ren'ai was alone and that vomit of words only didn't reach her roommate.
When he heard the door open Yutaka suddenly decided that his hair should be tied back and began doing so.
"I'm never using your intercom again. Please tell me no one was listening."
