she chimed happily, a nagging thought in the back of her mind wondering if Bolin would lower the column but she chose to keep it silent. After all, jumping roves really wasn't something one would just do if told so. It was like that mother's proverb (she could call it that, right?) that went 'If all the other kids were jumping off a cliff, would you?'. When you say it like that, of course a kid wouldn't! And you could interchange 'cliff' with 'rooftop' really easily. As a kid, her group was what pompous parents often referred to as 'brats' or 'ruffians' merely for having a bit of fun. Slightly dangerous fun, but it wasn't like those kinds of parents would even let their kids go on a walk in the park by themselves!Airi was ecstatic when the boys joined her in one of her favorite sports. Bolin, though, unlike what she would have thought to use with earth bending, had brought up a whole pillar from the ground to jump his way to the roof she stood on. Most of the younger kids she had played this with made pathways with loose bricks that would hold until they passed, or stand on a platform, pushing it forward like it was a sled on a downward hill. Anyways, if they did anything too drastic to play their game, their parents would have noticed and pulled them inside. Inside had been so boring, but now, older and in a different time in the city, it was a haven.
Then again, as kids, they weren't the most powerful benders, most just leaning on how to pick up their natural gifts. If anything, it was one of the many ways kids like her had learned how to bend at first. Lots of middle class citizens like her family hadn't a lot of money to actually take them for lessons, most parents teaching their children the basics over time and very slowly. Roofjumping had simply been a way to test out their skills. There had been other games, but none had made such an impression as this one had. To actually make something stick for a girl who lost her train of thought often was something one should look over lightly in considering how big a part of her life it had been. Well, it hadn't been a huge part, but it was all the same!
"Awesome!"
A giggle escaped Airi's lips, caused by the looks given to the trio by passerbys. Of course, small children with little bending abilities wouldn't cause such a scene, but the three were all probenders and much older than a group of children. Bolin's column didn't help anything, even if bursts of fire were also eye-catching. "Did you like it?" she asked, her eyes practically sparkling. Another thought popped up in the back of her mind, simply thinking if Mako was still concerned she was trying to injure either one of them so they couldn't play. My, my, what a mess that would make!
"Race you toooo... over there!" she pointed ahead, about three roves away where a rather impressive garden sat, mounds of dirt not only for the plants, but some simply sitting there waiting to be used. Long distance runs always needed some kind of thing to soften the blow if someone couldn't slow quickly enough. The firebender stretched a bit, first pointing her hands towards the sky and then touching her toes. "Go!" she announced. She sped off, taking long strides then, feet before the edge, she jumped, landing on the edge and using her momentum and a burst of fire from her feet to propel herself forward. She landed, stumbling a bit, but keeping on her feet.
This next roof she jumped off without the help of her bending, using her fire in midair to give her the added push she needed to make the jump, simply to mix it up a bit instead of the same trick after the same trick. Besides, it wasn't fun if it was all repetition! It reminded her way too much of practice! One, two more jumps, she made it to the destined roof. As she had dared not slow herself down, she tried to push her way towards the mound of dirt, holding out her hand to the right and a strong burst of fire pushing her in it's direction. After all, it was better than running off the edge of the roof, falling. Dirt was never a problem to her and seeing as she had slept on the streets last night, staying clean wasn't really something she could achieve.
With dirt on her face, she kept her eyes shut, fearing the sting that might come if it touched them. Her hands, she managed to feel, were just as dirty, the dirt sticking to her skin like fresh dough. "Did I win?" she spulttered, rubbing her eyes.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
