Tenoko was easy.
it's my real name! ^^

Himoto... I think I heard it somewhere, and it sounded Asian-y enough, [but that one's minor, as I still have yet to find a partner for that character]

so ye. if anyone knows what Tenoko means let me know. :3

Tenoko as a whole, couldn't find anything.
"te" - sky (pacific islander)
"no" - of (japanese?)
"ko" - heaven (korean)

how repetitive! xD

@joychi - yeah, 'supported lotus'. the name was apparently chosen as a reflection of her parents' opinion of her, as a delicate flower (lotus) that needs to be 'supported' due to her blindness.

All right, here we go...
  • Most of my names were inspired by a combination of the Irish Gaelic language and Tolkien's Elvish. Any of my Mothguaith characters are named such, with almost all males having CVCV or CVVC name patterns, and females anything ending in a vowel (with the exception of Lotelin, see below). Surnames in Mothguaith culture are given not by family lineage but by character, at adolescence, so they are taken directly from Tolkien.
  • Taed is... my name! It is also, ironically, a fidelisation of my two middle names, "Thomas" and "Aaron", into both Irish and Elvish (they turn out the same), and is related to the Irish "Tadhg (poet)". Luinnar means blue fire since Taed bends blue fire.
  • Lotelin is an almost verbatim name from Tolkien's Elvish — "loth" means flower and "lin" is a word root for sing or singing. Caranhith means red mist, a reference to early posts with Lotelin where I describe her firebending as "ethereal."
  • Coer is partially derived from that same root "caran" meaning red, but it's also meant to sound similar to "mor" dark. His surname Morcaran... is now self-explanatory.
  • Tenzin comes from a Tibetan name meaning upholder of teachings. I haven't made the character profile yet but I posted him as an NPC a while back... he is an escort in a Galgori village. I can't remember his surname or I'd post that too.
  • Inoue is Japanese for "above the well" but I think I just stumbled across it as a cool name for a Galgori master. Similarly for her surname, Michiya.
  • Cale is another Mothguaith, whose name I created from a fidelisation of the first and last names of the friend he was originally based on. His surname Gilhith means commander of the mist in Elvish.
  • Goen's name comes from the Tolkien word "gon" for rock, since he is an earthbender. His surname Culril means red spark, a reference to marine lightning.
  • Etsuko was not originally my character but I've RPd her on and off. The member that originally RPd her has a similar name in real life. Both names mean joyful child. Her recent surname Nireariel can be translated from the Elvish as child of sea tears.

@haruki - You couldn't find the meaning for Vora, the name of Shio's character, because it's a unisex Mothguaith that I came up with similarly to the methods listed above. She was named after another of the Mothguaith spirits, Voar Tiu, so the name basically means continuous or keep going.

Shtiya is Inuit and means "strength" or something — and it's the only one of mine that I actually know. No other character has a name that was chosen for meaning or anything other than sound; I choose names in a rather arbitrary fashion most of the time. (:

Rui is a japanese girls name meaning 'Tears; affection'
Lee Kaneda...I couldn't find anything on Kaneda by it'sself, it seems to be a surname...but Kane is money, and da is exchange, so it could be money changer, kinda like banker...da also means destruction, so wealth destroyer? and Lee is great...so Great destroyer of wealth?
Han = Swan, or gods grace depending on it's origin(sanskrit or scandinaian, respectively)
Ye = in an African language is 'the eldest of twins' or in chinese means light
Seul = ...hard to find anything on this, I did find something french, meaning lonely, or korean shortened form of Seoul meaning 'capital city' oh! and it is located on the Han river...

I looked up my character's names (which I just randomly made up) and found many different definitions for them. But here were the ones that I liked the best.

My Firebender Runaway: Ankita Ametashi[/color]

Her first name means with auspcious marks in Sanskrit. (funny because of all her scars.).
Her last name is a collection of the two words Ame, which can mean beloved and the word Tashi, which means prosperity.

So Ankita Ametashi means With Auspcious Marks; Beloved Prosperity......

Ankita's Brother: Raian Ametashi

Raian's name I actually derived from the Irish-based name Ryan. The name means "Little King".
So Raian Ametashi means Little King; Beloved Prosperity.....

Wow...strange.

Han Ye Seul is also, apparently, an actress. xD

I think I chose Lee's first name because in A:tLA they were like, "there's a million lee's in the fire nation" or whatever... ^^;
