Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

Can an Avatar level Firebender like Roku bend Blue fire and lighting?

So far the only person we've seen blufire bend is Azula. But Roku erupted magma from a volcanoe. Could Roku bend Blue fire?

Probably, looking at Roku's caliber as a Firebender, He definately could bend lightning. As for Blue Fire, We've only seen Azula use it. Maybe Azula's the only bender who can bend the cold fire. But I think Advanced Firebenders can Use it.

I think the Blue Fire isn't something that comes to the Avatar because Blue Fire is the hottest Fire, if you see in the episode 'The Chase", she blasts blue fire and the part of the building is cut. Also, Iroh has been touched by fire many times but when Azula touch him with her blue fire, he's struck well. I think that she trained a lot with her Firebending only, and that's why her level in Firebending is so Advandced and why her Fire is blue.

Blue fire is lightening , it's an expression of pure firebending , withouth any agression or other emotion (see episode "Bitter Work" ) like other firebending . Lightening is the coldblooded fire , it requires peace of mind . Azula is a firebending prodigy , she's precise and deadly , just like lightening . I think the Avatar can learn this , but lightening is the hardest firebending there is , it requires alot of training, only a small group of firebenders can do this . and I think Iroh was struck because he was suprised to see Toph again , normally , he could've strike the lightening back with his technique he learnt studying the water tribe

No, Blue Firebending is not lightning. They look different and sound different. Ok, back on subject. I would think that the Avatar can bend lightning if he has to MASTER Firebending. Because a master can mainly do everything. I mean Roku made a whole volcano erupt, I think he can bend lightning too.

The Blue fire is just really hot fire. The hottest level i believe.
I think it goes Orange -> Yellow -> Blue if I remember right.

Yes your right. In fact it would go red, Orange, Yellow, blue and white. Most benders are able to use a combination of Red, orange, and yellow. Blue so far is just found in Azula. White might be possible. If firebending requries intense emotions (minus lighting) then Azula has some intense feelings. It would be cool if Zuko was able to jump that level and bend white flames.

i definetly think that the avatar roku can bend blue fire because avatars are more powerful at elements that other benders and if azula can bend blue fire so can the avatar and i think weve never seen him use blue flame because he was powerful enough to defeate enemies easily w/ out using it.

I have only seen him fight once and that is when he used Lava. Also it could be possible that he never learned lightning or he just didn't ever increase his bending because if you have seen Azula fight she isnt a model of self control. She burns everything in her path with full force. The Avatar does not want to kill people only keep the peace. Also when u saw Roku he used the lava wich has to be way more powerful then blue flames. I think Ozai can use blue flames and Iroh 2 but Iroh has some control and realizes blue flames are 2 much and won't because its like Jeong Jeong said: with fire bending you need control or you will destroy everything and that is exactly why Azula uses it because she wants to be destructive. man she is so psycho. even her own mother was like and I quote "What is wrong with that child"

Hm... lightning may be the most perfect of Firebending, but lightning is impossible without the presense of water. If you ask me, it says something of Azula, she is a perfectionist, and she isn't looking for annihilation. She is looking for ruling the world with an iron fist, peacefully. Lightning bending is one refined art though. Lava shows much power, but it can only be used when combined with earth. Lightning is refined fire. Lightning can reach heats hotter than the sun.

I have done a lot of research on this wonderful art.
1) The four levels of fire-bending are: Yellow - Orange - Red - Blue.
2) Firebenders "bend" fire but using their inner chi to superheat the air molecules, to the point of a small explosion, or flame.
3) Firebenders of the highest calibour can "bend" lightning. It takes such mastery of emmotions to suppres them enough to maintain the concentration to heat the air to unbeleivable levels, creating lightning. That is lightning, superheated air molecules made up of negative energies, because energy and heat are commprised of negative energy. The emmotionless state is needed to direct the flow of chi without altering it so it may preform to it's highest potential.
4) The Avatar is the true "connection" between the spiritual energy of the elements and the physical world. That is where the bending comes from. Bending is an innate abbility manifested upon one at birth so that the individual has a connection to that particular form of spiritual energy. Therefore the bender is able to harness their ability through the connected martial art, and bend that spiritual energy on the physical world. The Avatar on the other hand, when he is fully realized and has connection to the spiritual realm on a almost partnership like level he can delve into spiritual energy so remote that other benders cant obtain. Like Avatar Roku bending the lava, it was a vague spiritual mix between the two energies of fire and earth.

That took nearly two weeks to research that, and I didnt even know of this website at the time. :-/

Cool.

Maybe I'm reading even more complex things into Avatar. That would be giving the shows creators to much credit. (Still, even though its a very low budget show, you'd be amazed how much reasearch they did).

Personally, I think that lightning should be a combination of Air and Water.

Like so:

Air + Water= Lightning
Fire + Earth = Lava
Air + Earth = Sand
Fire + Water = Unknown
Air + Fire = Unknown
Water + Earth = Unknown

There's an episode where Iroh uses lightning and explains it all to Zuko. Any fire bender can learn it if they work at it.

Exactly, it's the dicipline you need to reach that complete emotionless state to allow the ki to flow to the direct amount for lightning. All firebenders can use it.

since Iroh and Azula are the only ones ive seen on the show use lightning, it is a possible chance that the technique was invented by either Azula or Iroh. and since Aang is 110-sumodd years old, then the ability to create lightning was not learned until 100 sumodd years after Roku's death. plus, the avatar is the master of all four elements, so it is more than likely that Aang will learn to create lightning, which, i think will be taught to him by Iroh

I highly doubt that. First someone had to Iroh how to do lightning and Azula did learn it from someone else (her creappy old teachers), she was instructed by them when she was on her ship in chapter 1 book earth. As for Aang learning the art, I think that any highly advanced firebender would be able to teach him that skill. You don't normally just pull skills from no where.

The sages may be creepy, but they rock! Plus they finish each other's sentences. Woot!

And yes, only very experienced firebenders can lightning. Play with fire, get burned. Play with lightning, get killed.
