The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

yeah, unless earthbenders aould get those Dai Lee agent gloves but insted of rock they'd be metal, so they would be in contact with the metal and still send it flying at their enemies without looking for metal to grab onto frantically during a battle 0_0

It would be interesting to see an Earthbender make a mass of steel from a couple of Fire Nation ships and send it toppling onto another few still sailing forward. Of course, it will never happen as that would really tip the scales of power in the show, even if it was just one Earthbender that knew how. I'm pretty sure it won't go any farther than touch as has been seen thus far, but that's still a pretty nifty skill.

((Originally when I saw the Dai Li, I thought those gloves were made of metal v.v))

In a recent episode i saw, when Toph was captured by The Boulder and the other guy and she was in the metallic casing.. She bended the metal and broke free. also later bending another metal door in that same episode. I agree with you others saying Metal is a form of earth just man-made so it still has earth qualities in it and can be bended by an experienced bender such as Toph.

Mark *SPOILER* at the top of your post. It contains information from episodes that some people have not seen yet. Anyway, that should about conclude the controversy on metalbending, since the other topic has gone...off topic and this one has been pretty much concluded.

For those who haven't seen the episode yet, I suggest they search in YouTube, but since I don't want to get off-topic, I'm not going any further.

Toph isn't exactly an experienced bender. Metal is a form of Earth because it's rough iron that has been "purified and refined". Since it is, every Earthbender can bend it. But it's hard because since it has been purified, it's not totally Earth, it's only an altered state of Earth. Toph can bend it because she's blind and can feel the Earth inside the metal. Bending is a simple martial art that just uses chi to make elements move. Toph focuses her Chi on the Earth that is in the metal. Every Earthbender is supposed to be able to feel the Earth (not feel by touching, but by... "feelng"), in my conception of Earthbending. I think they can all bend it if they focus their chi. ButI don't think they'll be able to bend it just like they do with crystal, sand or rock. They may just be able to throw, budge or shatter (by dissociating the Earth elements inside the metal) it. But I think Bumi can bend metal, because he said he wanted to wait for the right moment to strike back. How do you think he'll get out of the metal coffin ? BY METALBENDING !!!!

or he could just smash it with a crapload of earth or wait for toph (he said he was going to do nothing).
anyway, toph seems to be the first earthbender to learn to bend metal, so i think she can now teach aang and other earthbenders. toph was the first because she was blind.

i dont really think there is much else to say about this thread, if anything.

Too true borther! Say it as it is Brother! Whoot! Shang here is right. She is the first Earthbender because of her new perspective of things. I bet even Boomi couldn't find out, or maybe he has but we don't know that yet. Yay crazy and blind people!

@ Zero - I believe Yoshiro was referring to Bumi and then to Toph, respectively, when saying "Yay crazy and blind people!"

@ Shang Bizring - I find it rather amusing that you would throw out your opinion on a matter and then after that being said declare that there is nothing else to be discussed.

There's no way to know for certain if Toph is the first to bend metal or not, but there is plenty of room for speculation. The whole 'blind biz' is getting kind of annoying, as if the little girl has been elevated to the state of a god because she has some special advantage that's helped her to pulverize the weak and the pitiful. The truth is that when she 'sees' the vibrations in the earth its probably just an advanced form of sensing the vibrations that has been enhanced due to it being her primary source of getting around.

All Earthbenders have a connection with the earth and they can all 'sense' vibrations, just not 'see' them. Given enough time, I'm sure that some experianced benders with plenty of time and experiance, Bumi is a prime example having lived for over a century, have managed to sense the vibrations in metal as Toph did so quickly. Therefore its likely that some of the greatest masters have managed to uncover the ability to metalbend through weaker senses than Toph but with more experimentation than a few fists to a cage wall.
