Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

Air's add-on would most likely be fog. Air is mostly defense and evasion based, and nothing beats being unseeable through extremely dense fog! It could also be steam, or something to that effect.

yeah but isnt steam a form of firebending? In episode 19 of the first book, zuko uses steam from his nose to melt the ice katara entrapped him in. Fog does sound pretty cool tho. but anyway, with the ability to run super fast, glide and make typhoons and tornados. Airbenders need nothing more.

Steam isn't a form of firebending, the steam coming out of Zuko's nose is extremely cold fire, cancelling out the 'flaming' effect. Remember what Iroh said about the "Breath of Fire." Either that or it wasn't steam and what you saw was Zuko breathing out his nose angry, and the frigid air caused it to be visible. In other words, if you blow in the cold, you can see your breath.

yeah but then again, the firebenders have no control of 'the cold'. On two occasions, iroh has used the same technique. In book 1 episode 6 iroh used it to heat his bath, making it a hot spring. And in one of the episodes from book 2, iroh used it to heat his tea which tipped jet off to them being firebenders. The breath of fire you speak of was used in the north pole when zuko came up from the water and realised it had been frozen over. Then he breathed fire after remembering what iroh had said.

Zuko also used it when he took Aang to the cave in the snowstorm. He breathed fire into his hands. Either way, steam is not controlled by firebenders. Vapor would be waterbenders, and steam, as I mentioned, would possibly be controlled by airbenders.

hmmm... that is an interesting point. I confer. Steam would be a trick that would take the skills of a waterbender, airbender and a firebender. Therefore im sure aang could make some serious steam hahaha!!!! You really know your avatar. We should have more discussions in the future. :)

I'm just a fan(atic) of avatar, but I study most of it in detail. Also, I know my science pretty well, as well as an overdeveloped common sense. As for discussions, I will ad-lib Iroh. "Delectable discussion...? Or deadly fight...?"

deadly fight is a great alternative altho, when a man throws a punch, he admits he has lost the fight.... An overdeveloped common sense must get you into some trouble along the way... I was thinking today, the way that aang airbends, it actually seems like he is bending the other elements. I mean you might disagree but when zuko and azula firebend at him, he uses wind(air) to push the fire away, and air has a great effect on the tides. So would that make the airbenders the superior benders?

Aang has proven to use airbending in defensive and evasive ways for the most part. Each bending has it's own charactertistics. For example if you've played MapleStory, there are four job types. Thief, or rogue, the fast and evasive, yet still packing a sting, job. Mage, the healing and strong type. Warrior, the strong and defensive type, and of course, Bowman, the long and close-ranged attacker with many tactics. Consider them this way:

Thief - Airbender
Mage - Waterbender
Warrior - Earthbender
Bowman - Firebender

Also, if you have seen hurricanes, you can see what effect air has on the ocean, but hurricanes do not control water directly, do they?

true... but then most storms are regulated by water and air working together like clouds. In book 1 episode 14 aunt wu's predicitons are swayed by kitara and aang using water and air bending. hahaha now im just trying to sound smart. dont mind me lol.

Storms are created by the circle of condensation, which is a natural process. That's how they are created. What they do and how they do it is a whole 'nother sparring field. The circle of condensation, yes, involves both air and water, but is not technically part of a storm. Even so, a storm is not connected to winds, but is connected to rainfall, or otherwise, water.

so by that logic, the waterbenders should be able to create or get rid of storms. Now that would be interesting. I would love to see katara raise her arms and summon a heap of storm clouds. How cool would that be!!!???

The actual storm's activities are water based. Katara could not create a storm unless she had Aang's help, since storms are created using a combination of air and waterbending. Although it would be interesting...it's highly unlikely, if not impossible to happen on the show unless it's Aang doing it. Aang could control the lightning in the clouds if he knew how to firebend...hmm. Now that I think of it, storms use all four elements to create and utilize...

Well if you consider how lightning is attracted to the highest area of land...I'm just kidding around. ;D Anyway, metalbending makes sense in my opinion, I'm waiting for an episode where Aang questions Toph about metalbending, and Toph says "You just punch it."

LOL I look forward to such an event where Aang asks about it. That would be awesome and cool! Yay metal bending! I hope people don't try to make metal bending guys because as far as we know, only Toph has discovered it and only she can teach it to other people. But still, YAY!

It would be cool to, at the end, see Aang turn into the metal version of that waterbending Godzilla that Aang turns into when he's in the avatar state. With the glowing and everything ;D

Plus, if Toph says it's that simple...we're gonna get a lot of metalbenders! Watch out firebenders you got a giant cube of steel flying straight towards you!!

i've never heard of MapleStory, but i bet it's pretty cool.

Anyway, are firebenders able to bend anything that gives off heat or just fire? Also, would traveling waterbenders be able to bend water found in the air (i.e. fog, mist, cloud water)? ???

oh and sorry Jin for not being on in a while to respond to your post, and seriously i hope they add a metalbending ability to highly skilled earthbenders on the site later

From what I've seen you have to physically touch metal to bend it. Toph has yet to pull a magnetic approach to metal. Not sure how much more will be done with it. But if that's the case, the earthbenders will only be able to metal bend if it's really close to them.
