Well as someone said before Aang might have a couple of children and just wait a few will become a lot in a while just look at the Human population. But still I think that there are a couple of Airbenders that escaped the genoside.

Yeah, I mean, waterbenders ended up in the swamp. If no one knew about them, then they might have some hidden airbenders. Besides, if their aren't Aang could start a family, and then it would go down the line until all the airbenders have a good population, then POOF, more airbenders!!

True besides I heard that airbenders breed like bunnies.
Well who knows they could go very high in the mountains, and end up being isolated.

As to the Firebenders getting on the mountain....Didn't they use some sort of like tank with a grappling hook. I'm pretty sure I've seen it before.
And of course Aang could have children, but he currently is the last Airbender. We don't know of any others, so really we must assume he is the last one.

well they say he's the last airbender, but all good shows have twists. *hint hint* Zuko leaving Iroh* Ang if ang had kids, then would they be airbenders, avatars or whatever bender who he had kids with?

I never said that there would never been Airbenders, simply that there isn't. Yes, if/when Aang has kids, his future kids could/might/will be the future Air Avatars/Airbenders if he truly is the Last Airbender, like I believe.

technically there SHOULD be more airbenders out there, since mass genocide is a pretty difficult thing to do. it seems impossible to just wipe out every airbender out there, but in terms of the show, Aang most likely is the last airbender. theres a small chance they might introduce one later, some grand-master, just to help Aang learn maybe some incredible technique or whatever.

As far as the mass genocide thing goes, the problem there is that everyone in this wonderful world of avatar is nice and divied up into little pockets, easy to manage. Another thing, their world is a lot smaller than our own. Roughly similar to our Mediterranean, if I may guesstimate. Thats not to say no one survived, but mass genocide would be a lot easier in Avatar's world than our own.

I don't think Aang is the last airbender, I mean he might be the last "Airbender" but I don't think he's the last "Air nomad" and if there are still many Air nomads, there will be airbenders right ? because it's a gift in each nation. And like somebody said before when Aang will have children they might be Airbenders. But I have a question, won't the Avatar's cycle be broken if Aang is the last airbender ?

No, not if Aang's children become Airbenders, and their children become Airbenders. Eventually, when the cycle gets back to the Airbenders, then one of his children will be the next Air Avatar.

I don't think Aang is the last airbender, he maybe the last one people know, but I feel there are still some around in hiding. Nomads mean they move around from place to place, having no permanent home. So they could be in hiding and there could be some that do not use their bending blending in with the crowd. Not all the airbenders lived in the temples, why would they call them air Nomads if they had a permanent home?

I think we were trying to work some of this out in a different topic. ^ is in my option right. I think that the Air Nomads, being nomads are still on the run and lying low to avoid contact with any one least the Fire nation come and destroy them. The monks in all likely hood were wiped out, but the culture lives on with the non bending nomads.

^ But according to the Cinemanga, since the Airnomads were the most enlightened from the other elements all airnomads were airbenders. To me even if they were all airbenders it doesn't mean all the airbenders were monks.

The name of the show does imply otherwise but yeah I think its possible that other Airbenders are alive somewhere. I mean... unless Aang has kids that is no more airbenders. Would the line of Avatars just skip airbender in its cycle next time around? I mean it does go through every bending type... that is really offtopic I should make a thread for it.

I think that it would just end. That was the goal of the Fire lord when he theorticly wiped out the airbending people.

Of course he is the last of his people. Title already says it. But it is more fact and practical point of view. If we have to make different guess and have to come up with our own theory based on all episodes, then still I will say he is last airbender. And matter of learning air bending in another life it just like Avatar roku said"I have mastered all elements thousand times in thousand lifetime." or" for I know you have done it before, and I know you can do it". What do you all think about the first airbender? How did he learned it? There was something or someone from where he/she learned it. So I think it will not be problem.

Well, he may be the last of the Airbenders but, as I always say, he's not the last Air nomad. I don't think they were all Airbenders, because in the episode "The Storm", the fisherman says that his grandfather was an airnomad but he didn't say that he was an Airbender (that's what I understood, because he was speaking fast for me and I didn't translate all of what he said) so that gives the hope that there could be some Air Nomads (or even Airbenders) somewhere in the Earth Kingdom or in the Western or Eastern Air Temple. Unless the Fire Nation destroyed them and the temples are lying in ruins. If Aang and Katara had a baby, I don't think he would bend but he would certainly be an Air Nomad. So his child would be an Airbender.

Not really. The title says that Aang is the last airbender. Debate all you want but that doesn't change any thing. The question seems to be: Are the air nomads extinct? I do believe that they are still around. The temples could have been last stands that would distract the Fire Nation as the nomads ran away. Or it may be that the fire nation didn't bother with the non-bending nomads.
It is possible that every airbender that was born got sent to the temples to hone their skills as a child. On a Rare occasion, they might leave the temple but most stayed where they were. So the nomads are just in hiding. Hopefully anyway.

I think that there could be some airbenders left.If the Northern air temple and southern air temple have no survivors but since there are all boys in the northern and southern air temple then maybe the Eastern and western air temples are for girls.Maybe some of the airbenders are still alive cause Aang hasn't gone to the Eastern and western air temples to check if there are any of the airbenders left.

The discovery of the Order of the White Lotus asks that question because the White Lotus appearently helps those who need help and also hides the fugitives or refugees or whoever else. So I hope that there are Airbenders who found that society and are hiding from the Fire Nation (I know all of the contradictions against that theory so nobody will need to tell me).
