The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

The Earth itself, sorry for misconceptions drawn from my post

I think he was spontaneously created by the spirits, with mastery of all elements without having to learn him. I'm talking born an adult etc....

Kemari has already shown us that it was not obligatorily like the cycle. But Do Sho is a bit right, Kemari, because the ancestors from the Water Tribes learnt how to Waterbend by seeing the spirits Tui and La and they were the first so...he's right too.

But, do you think the Avatar existed before Earth, Air, and Firebenders? I dont think so. Which means its not obligatory that its water, because earth air and fire already existed at that point. Mightve been random, mightve been water, but again, I think its neither. Remember, the spirits came together to create the incarnation of the four elements which implies creation, and a wholly seperate human, one created by the spirits themselves. I think this first avatar was more powerful than any other, because he was the spirits themselves.

Yeah, you think the Avatar wasn't obligatorily a bender before he knew that he was the Avatar ? But the Avatar is the reincarnation of the spirit of the Planet in someone. So there was benders before or the Avatar wouldn't exist, right ? Or how do you think he would learn how to bend ? You think he didn't learn and he already knew but that's impossible because the Avatar (I mean all of the Avatars) has to master the elements. Right ?

Yes, but how could he have known he was the avatar if he was the first? I think the first avatar was created not born, and he taught the nations about himself, and that he would reincarnate. Otherwise, how would people know about the avatar and what to do with him? I dont think its possible that the first one couldve puzzled it out on his own(that he needs to learn all four elements in order, tell people what nation the next reincarnation will be in, even find out that he CAN bend all elements...) It just doesnt seem like he couldve accidentally done it all without knowing beforehand exactly what he had to do! Thats why I think the first avatar was created as a grown person with mastery of the elements and knowing exactly what he had to do to fulfill his destiny.

... thanks for sharing.

So basically, waht your saying is, the avatar is like jesus? Im not meaning to offend any hardcore christians, but Jesus was this person who could make miracles, but he was just sourta created fromt he 'Virgin marry'.

So, that would mean the Avatar was created by a *higher being* according to what Im getting from Kemari

The Avatar is the spirit of the Planet. If the Avatar is killed in the Avatar State the spirit of the Planet will die. Therefore the Planet would most likely have incarnated out of neccesity. I think all out war broke out among the nations, with all four bending arts discovered. This would be enough to put the Planet's life in danger alot more than an Avatar triggering and dying in the Avatar State. With reincarnation, it would acually be safer than the Moon and Ocean spirits. The airbenders would be the most looking for peace via peaceful coexistence. There for I believe that the Avatar began with the Air Nomads, and one of them recieved a vision from the spirits. They are, after all, a highly spiritual people.

People it is just like our universe, here is a series of endless questions, just like the one you are trying to answer!

1. How was our planet created? By heat and elements and atoms and stuff floating through the universe.
2. How was the universe created? Well there was a big bang.
3. What wad the big bang? It is said that there was a tiny hypercahrged energy molecule, or atom, and it got so energized that it exploded into the universe.
4. Well how did the super atom molecule thing get there? We don't know, something needed to create the universe, but isnt it the biggest thing we know?

Questions like this that are unanswerable, and we will never know.

The Avatar is just there he is like the universe we will never know who or what created it but its there, embrace it.

... PS. By the way this is a childrens show( but still totally awesom :)), and the creators probably weren't thinking about how the avatar was created when they made it, children are not going to understand all this stuff anyways. LOL

In my opinion, judging from what you guys have said and what I'm cooking up in my mind. I'd have to say that the first avatar was probably a spirit who came to the planet to preserve it and keep it protected. I'm also guessing that this was before the creation of creatures and life. I'm guessing after life was created by some spirit man or groups of spirits(Polytheism like in eastern cultures). The aforementioned spirit took the form of animals. These animals were possibly spirits themselves who came to the planet to see what they had created. However, they each chose a different area to live in and lifestyle. The spirit mentioned above was probably the first to come to the earth so it was given precedence over the others adn thus became able to manipulate its environment as it chose. Tui and Laa were around and they gave it waterbending, an earth spirit gave it earthbending, fire and air as well. Note this was before the spirits figured out how to make humans. Wanting to join its breatheren, the bending spirit enfused itself into an animal making it a "bending" animal. Possibly starting with Air, or Water, the being created Flying Bisons, Unagi or maybe some waterbending animal we haven't seen yet. As time went on and his shell died out(Hinduistic reincarnation), he took on the form of another animal or Avatar. He continued this creating four bending animals: Flying Bison, Dragon(Like Roku's Guide in Winter Solstice), Unagi or other waterbending animal, adn the badgermoles. Eventually the spirits created humans and the spirits taught humans bending. The spirit decided to take on a human avatar to protect the planet. He possibly made his human shell before the rest of humanity learned bending. Taking the body of a newborn, he was the first avatar but hid his powers until he was ready to use his powers. When he was 16, the age when the person is told they are the avatar, he/she decided to use their powers but in small amounts until the world was ready. When humanity learned how to manipulate the four elements, the avatar revealed himself(Possibly by now was an old man) and took charge of the world. He ruled until he died and took on the form of another human. This continued until the four nations were created. By now, the spirit was in his/her 20th or something form and decided to be reborn into one of the new civilizations. Choosing the civilization closest to the spirits(Air Nomads), the avatar borned himself into the culture adn the first nation avatar was created. Wanting to be fair and just to all the civilizations, he created the cycle in the way he did the animal shells. Creating the cycle.

Probally not. And I think the avatar would be around long before the statues ever really were made. Before civilization ever really took its steps. Atleast thats my theory. The avatar has always been around, and will continue to do so. Course I think that monkeys will rule the world so I could be crazy.

I think that the Avatar was just there, or maybe someone just had a talent for all types of bending, and some guy said, "Let's call him the Avatar!" and maybe then he died, and then some other guy popped up who had the same talent, and then another person said, "Hey, maybe it's the reincarnation!"
