Probably a waterbender, since thats the begining of the cycle, But i'm thinkin it could be an airbender too. Probably one of the internal arts, seem more begining of balance peace making types.

true, true. i wander if at the end of avatar, they start adding differnt diciplines. like lightning and metal and different bendeing styles to match.

Remember, firebenders can control lightning now, so that wouldn't be an independent bending dicipline.

Metalbenders would be kinda weird, because they only bend elements, not man-made items.

Yes, Water's the beginning of the Avatar cycle, so it was probably Water. (Stay on topic, btw...)

Mihara is right he is very old.Remember on the episode called"The Southern Air Temple" where they go though that big door the were thousands of avatar statues.
