Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

Is is possible that Iroh will die or be less important now that Mako, his voice actor is dead? (Hence the reason the Iroh section in the Tales of Ba Sing Se was dedicated to him).

Iroh is my favorite character. He's the awesome perverted old man who's actually super-strong.
But you can't really kill off a character right after their voice actor dies. It's disrespecting the dead, killing a memory of theirs.

Since they honored him in yesturday's episode, I'd lean towards them not killing off Iroh, as I would think that Iroh's buriel would have been where they would have honored him.

They probably won't make him last till Season 4 though I wager, Season 3 will probably be where he will die if I had to place a "bet" on it.

Though they shouldn't kill him at all or anything...Iroh is my favorite non-Avatar group main character (Basically favorite person that doesn't travel with Aang and is still a Main Character.)

The fact that they have a person to match iroh's voice in the last episode means that theyhave hired a person for Iroh and Iroh is going to remain a key character. if they got rid of Iroh, alot of the emotion for him and for Zuko would be lost

I doubt they will kill him off because of his voice-actor's death, though I think Iroh will die eventually in the show. When he was hit by Azula in "The Chase," Zuko freaked out. I think that Aang will learn firebending from either Iroh or Zuko, and either Iroh will teach Aang, then die and Zuko will have to finish Aang's training or Zuko will teach Aang because Iroh asked him to as a last request.

I doubt they will kill him off, but the "tale of Iroh" did make me want to cry! I at least hope that they don't kill him off, I love him! Ah, well, on the otherhand if they do kill him I find Xia-di's theory most likely.

The Tale of Iroh was incredibly sad, though it was also the funniest, it just shows how deep a character he is...

Honestly, umm, I don't think anyone is going to teach Aang any Firebending, afterall, didn't he swear to never use Fire again after he burned Katara? Or am I remembering wrong?

He may have sworn never to firebend again, but I still think he will. I think now he'll just be a little more patient and careful when playing with fire. But I think that he's going to have to learn it sometime...
The guy who plays Iroh now, I think, has a better singing voice... It was sooo funny, and soo sad as well... *snif*

That's untrue there is no new voice actor yet. That was a prerecorded episode with Mako still voicing Iroh.

did mako do the whole episode? because during the part with the kids playing the earthbendering-like soccer game, and they broke the guys window, Iroh's voice sounded different when he said that stuff about honesty and honor. then the big guy appeared in the window, and the group of kids and Iroh all ran awy. after that, it all seemed pretty good. although, Mako may have just been having voice problems, depending on his manner of death

Actually the scene where the kids broke the window and Iroh told them to confess, that was a new voice actor, so they have replaced Mako for now. I don't think they'll kill of Iroh just as yet, not when he's doing so well in humanizing Zuko. He's still got an important role in the story, I'm sure of it.

I think I agree with Xai-de. Zuko was a bad dude in the beginning, but now that him and Iroh have met the avatar and traveled with just the two of them, Zuko's more of a hero than a villan.
Also, how did Mako die?

This is slightly off topic but I can't help but point out, as the Avatar Aang HAS to master all FOUR elements, so at some point, yes, he will have to learn firebending. I do believe that in some way Iroh and Zuko will both be integral to this...

...and therefore, to get slightly back on-topic, I believe that Iroh will remain behind, as the eventual voice of experience behind the Avatar Team. I even go so far as to say that Zuko and Iroh will travel with Aang and Co eventually, and that in defeating Fire Lord Ozai (and thus Azula must be defeated as well) Zuko will become the new Fire Lord. And a good one.

I don't know. Iroh seems pretty happy just living out of a tea shop. I wouldn't say that it is out of the qustion for him to stay behind and wish his nephew well in his quest to capture the avatar. But, then that might upset the fans. If any thing dramatic happens it will be at the end of earth or somewhere in the book of fire.

From what I hear there is no new voice actor as of yet so I doubt there was a new one in that episode.

I don't think they will kill of Iroh like someone said they got a somewhat same sounding guy in TBSS. So they probably are just going to use this guy for all of the scenes Mako wasn't capable of voicing in. Having said that I hope they do kill him off later in the story and they should give him a legendary defeat.

whatever the Avatar team does, I hope they do whatever they envisioned, and not just kill Iroh cause his actor, however great he was, died. I do not hope they kill off such a great character. I hope they do what they want to do... create their true artistic vision.

Mako lost his battle with cancer

Esophageal cancer, as a matter of fact, spread to his throat... ironic for a voice actor, idn't it?

At any rate, they haven't got a new voice actor for him yet, but with the next eipsode being Appa-centric, it's most likely that he will not even appear in it, maybe to buy them some time. They would have to get a voice actor to do an episode in which he dies anyway, and if they can get one for one episode, they can get one for all the episodes...

they will lay him off unless they do what they did with other actors and replace the voice which would completely throw off the character. I would say leaving him to go into a whole different season probably after 3.

That will give enough time that iroh has been missing so something must be up and then a result would be the whole voice change. I've seen anime voice changes over one episode and it really sounds wierd, but after a while you get used to it. And most fan people will still watch the show regardless
