Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

"Thank you lady priestess Lotelin" Hayate said calmly. Slowly, he then untied his ponytail letting his black spiky hair droop down his back. I've never been in the home of a priestess, not even back home in Orgamen he thought as he tried to think of what the master Golgari wanted them to do.

When he finally heard the monk's question, Hayate replied, "It's just that I feel that the island no longer holds any more knowledge for me to gain in my medicinal studies. Even though we mothguaith do not like what the outside world is doing destroying the balance the spirits so carefully created, I feel that their knowledge of medicine and other healing skills would be crucial in my development as a member of this island. I'm also going to see what I can do to help the members of the mothguaith and the Golgari on the outside. On the front lines of our war against those who destroy balance."

Before Kalari could say anything else, Lotelin interjected, "The only Mothguaith on the 'outside,' Doctor, are my two children, and the son of the priest at Orgamen. My boys are travelling on a mission of unity and peace to all three nations, while Coer has been with two Galgori in the middle of a Bender Hunt. You and Vora are the first to leave the island under the grace of our allies."

*Fuegan*

Coer was still silently paying attention to the scrutiny of Anei's mother, but in Taed's mind gears screeched to a halt and he turned the Monk's head toward Anei. "Myth? What myth? Our peoples complete each other?"

"Sorry..forgive me of my ignorance. I thought there were more of us on the outside" Hayate said apologetically. Looking over at the young girl who was named Vora, Hayate knew instantly what she had. Leaning over to the priestess, Hayate wispered, "She has the 'Ashhead' right? I'm just wondering."

A sort of puzzled look fell onto Vora’s face as she faintly made out the words that were spoken by Lotelin to Kalari. ‘Ashhead.’ What is an ‘Ashhead,’ what wrongs does it carry? Vora questioned as she took another bite from the pastery savoring its sweat taste.

When the question on motives popped up Vora quickly swallowed a fairly large bite and by not having chewed it thoroughly made a weird expression. Upon finally having the piece enter her stomach she opened her mouth just to have the man that entered speak.

When he finished she stated her reason, “Well my family really doesn’t care for me and I want them to. So I want to leave the island and search for the spirit that first gave us the gift of firebending, so that I can be accepted.”

“Oh and what’s an ‘Ashhead?’” Vora asked.

Kalari nodded in pleased acknowledgement to Hayate, a good warrior's reason that he found refreshing after too long among the genetically devious and untrusting. The girl's response though... That was less pleasing from it's implications. He looked at her sidelong, voice nuetral, "And learning to Firebend would make them accept you?"

*Fuegan*

"My daugther is probably refering to the Kaer Sae myth in an effort to make her... affection for Coer more acceptable. She has always tried to stretch the truth to fit her needs," interjected Juraia gently, eyes showing a touch of anger, "Am I correct?"

Anei bristled at the implication, limping forward from her place at Coer's side with a determined look on her face. There was no way she was goign to take this after FIGHTING against her own sister. She an adult by Galgori law, and Ko help her... Her face darkened, angry words on the edge of her tongue

"What must I do to be accepted," Coer said quietly, cutting off Anei and anyone else from further comment, and saying it more in submission than as a query. Taed studied the young man before his temporarily older body with some equal amounts of astonishment, pride, and respect. The question was obviously meant for Juraia and Juraia alone.

*Pyrazure*

Lotelin sighed. "I should have known you would see the signs as well, Doctor. Vora, you have lithdol fever. It's probably because of running out on your own in the cold dark and damp, to where we found out unconscious outside of Annonduin. Nothing life-threatening at all, but you are likely to have a relapse where you will feel dizzy, nearly pass out, and possibly vomit a tiny bit. If it runs its course it will last a week... I as a priestess, and probably our Doctor here being what he is, have some medicine that can clear it up sooner. I just thought I'd make Master Kalari aware of the situation."

Placing a hand on the Galgori's arm, Lotelin looked at him intently and explained, "In Mothguaith custom upon the eldest child of a priest or priestess is laid the responsibility of the priesthood, but the same custom dictates that the firebending gift be passed down as a sign of the priesthood. Only priest families firebend. If a priest has more than one child, it is very unusual for the younger children to have any offspring; they just choose not to, it's traditional.

"In Vora's case, from what we were discussing this morning, she was somehow born with an inability to bend fire. Afraid for his line, and unable to declare her heir to the priesthood, Vora's father hid her away but kept her cared for in secret. Vora is actually Tianli's nephew, by the way. So you see, just like anyone else, Vora just wants to be accepted. Perhaps this particular custom is one of our people's failings, but I fear it would be easier for Vora to chase this goal of hers than to change the Mothguaith.

"I see," replied the Master carefully, displesure masked by a dplomatic mask of indifference, storming inside at the blind stupidity of Bender parents everywhere who rejected their children for lack of a gift of nature, "I had hoped that Kaer Sae's People might be above this stigma, but you are after all, only human in the way that humans are. No more, no less."

He turned to the girl, anger beginning to leak from his eyes, "In light of this... regretable information, I will be sure to find a suitable guide for your... quest." However futile and painful it was. Such stupid fools...

*Fuegan*

Air palpably crackling between her and the hapless young Mothguiath Bender, Juraia narrowed her eyes to slits, "What must you do? What must you do? You come before me, a Bender outsider from the shadows of legend, all but asking for my daughter's handfasting, provoking chaos, violence even, between two girls I bore from my own womb and love beyond my life, and you ask that?"

She... blurred forward, suddenly inches from Coer's eyes, looking slightly up into hsi pupils, hands at her sides, "How dare you. If you weren't who you were... Every instinct I have... No. I won't give you THAT. The satisfaction. The injured innocense which will only bind you closer to her. I can't control who she loves, but when I look at you, I see chaos in her future beyond that of even the most violent Hunter's life. Can you promise me that you will protect her from that, Coer Sae?"

OOC: Uh-oh... tension building between the factions... hee hee

*Fuegan*

"Yes," Coer answered, stronger and more sure than his last statement. He refused to look up still, now not out of submission but out of anger. "It's precisely because I love Anei, and care for her sister as well, that I could not possibly let anything happen to her. What I can't believe is that when I try to make peace and offer to do what it takes to rectify the situation you won't even give me a fighting chance! This isn't some passing fling!" Afraid that he would do something stupid, he growled, "Pardon me," and stormed off.

Taed tried his hardest to hide his feelings similar to those of Coer, on how Juraia had reacted to what would, on Mothhaudh, be the greatest offering of peace and submission. Unfortunately no unrelated words were forming in his mind, so he had to keep himself shut up for a moment. "...I'll be right back." He chased off after Coer in a slightly more dignified manner.

*Pyrazure*

"I'm sure our customs are very shallow to you," Lotelin tried to bring a little more peace of mind to her Galgori counterpart. "Not all the priests feel the same way, presenting myself as one example. It's hard to change how people think."

She paused, and a new series of thoughts entered her mind. "My late husband's nephew, Cale, whom Master Kalari has already met, is a noble young man and I believe is about Vora's age. I propose that, if his mother Joria agrees to it, Cale and Vora might travel together. Since Tianli couldn't take Cale into his training academy, I believe my nephew would gladly bear the responsibility of Vora's safety and the chance to become a warrior."

Juraia smiled serenely upon Taed and Coer's departure, chuckling darkly to herself. What a young man he was. Much as she disagreed with his Bender nature, she had to approve of his passion and deference to her experience. Almost Galgori in a way... Her husband was much...

Anei had recovered her voice by this time, interupting, "Mother, I... How could you do that?! I like him, and now you've mafe him run away mad. If you aren't in charge of me, why do you..." Her angry comment was cut off by Juraia's hand gesture.

"I love you, Anei, and I want both you and your sister to be happy. If you stay with him, there will be difficulties, Mothguaith or no, however," she continued, "I think he means his best by you so far, and tell him that our original bargain still stands. We Galgori are a passionate people when roused, and if he can't stand a little emotional rough-and-tumble, he should go home now. I approve of him, for now and in latter should you choose to make this a more serious comitment. Ko help you both."

Anei closed her mouth, looking away from Juraia and her concilatory tone, a flush filling her cheeks, one that deepened when she glanced back to seeing the broad smile blooming on her mother's face. Swallowing a half-flustered denial of Juraia's implication, the older twin limped off in search of Coer Sae.

((haha Halaku, hahaha))

As Vora looked up to see what was currently going on she had a small ache in the pit of her gut. Then as Lotelin told her of her current physical state it seemed obvious that she was suffering from what was stated. The pain slowly intensified, but even with it’s increased output of pain Vora failed to show any signs on her face. Then it quickly went away.

I need that medicine, Vora thought as she heard Lotelin and Master Kalari discuss the current events as they wanted them to unfold. Though Kalari seemed to be a well made and mannered man he still had emotions, and when he looked to Vora she could see it in his eyes. He obviously saw her quest as futile, though it was, and most likely didn’t want to give her an escort.

“Thank you Mrs. Lotelin,” Vora said as she wondered about her escort Cale.

Mothhaudh

It was a month Kasai had been there. A month, and no orders, no news of whether or not his division of the Fire Nation's Bender forces were going in. He was not dressed in his armor uniform, but he was very eager to break some skulls over the loss of his Brother, who was lost during a complication near the Southern Water Tribe shortly before it was announced that some warmounger terrorist, know only as the 'Avatar' had appeared. He had heard legends that this man was undefeatable, that he came back to life immediately following his death. That was total crap to Kasai. And, if he had his way, he'd make sure that he took care of this 'Avatar' in such a manner that all his future lives would feel the pain of his fatal blow. But, alas, he was stuck here, Mothaudh, awaiting further commands from the Fire Nation as to what he and his group should do, salivating over the pleasing possibilites that came to his mind. Maybe... Just, maybe... They'd take out the 'Avatar' themselves...

Coer slowed down outside the village and instinctively crossed into the neighbouring forest, going up a hill that ended in a small cliff overlooking the village. He kicked a rotting log apart and sat down on the moss, furious with Juraia. The only reason I didn't strike her there is because she is Anei's mother, he ranted in his mind, glaring intently at the center square of Fuegan.

Taed caught up moments later, moving with the combined silence of the monk's body and the spirit's natural grace in the wild. He cleared his throat and startled Coer. "Nice cliff. It reminds me greatly of the overlook of Pyrazure off the side of the Men Taurrim. You never saw it, since you weren't in my home village long enough."

Coer turned back around and continued glaring. "Going to tell me that I was childish and immature?"

The monk's body sat down right next to Coer. "Coer, I'm in the body of a mature thirty-year-old Galgori but I'm still the same age as you, and raised the same way. Treat me like an equal and kinsman, not as a superior and foreigner." He sighed. "Being totally honest, I am just as mad at what Juraia did and I agree with what you said."

Coer glanced sidelong at Taed. "Yeah. Well, I know myself that I did do the immature thing, and that means you know it too. Thanks for not shoving it back at me."

"I'm not like that."

The shadow priest returned his gaze to the village but ended up staring at where his zephyr was sleeping to the left of the village. "Are you always so kind and optimistic? Don't you ever worry?"

"I'm afraid for my life and for that of my brother. I left him and my body in the middle of a battle with pirates. I may not have a body to go back to, or a brother to take care of if I did. So yes, I worry a lot." Taed leaned back on his elbows. "When things are out of my control, though, I work on the things I can control. For instance, I'm here, so I will help however I can."

"So you're saying, while I can't control what Juraia thinks of me, I still love Anei and she loves me, and that's all that matters."

Hokori came out of her funk and walked towards the center of the village, looking for her sister half in dread and half in antisipation. What she found was her mother leaning against a pole, hat shading her features, knife wittling a chunk of wood into some vaguely humanoid figure. Her mother's shifting gaze paralyzed her where she stood.

"Tell me why you hit your sister," intoned the veteran, tone quiet and nonjudgemental, "I want to understand." Juraia blinked a few times, waiting with that gaze that promised everything and nothing.

The younger twin had no words. Too many emotions blared through her skull to think clearly. But... She sighed, begining to stumble over her own thoughts, distracted all the while wondering where Aeni was..

The older twin climbed up the hill she could could tell the two Mothguaith were on. A quick smirk and she darted up a tree, ignoring her burned foot while stealthly infiltrating toward them. Find a perch above thier heads, she took a fire berry and dropped it on Coer, poking her face from the cover of the thick follage. "Hey," she murmured once gathering their attention, "You mananged to impress her in case you wanted to know."

Taed didn't even look up or show any surprise at Anei's appearance, but Coer instinctively jerked his head upward and then relaxed when he saw the familiar face. "Gor aruk, Anei, she sure has an odd way of showing it," he sighed, falling to lay on his back in the leaves and look up into the face of his... of Anei.

"Every Galgori I've seen has been very passionate about what they do and think," Taed offered nonchalantly. "Would it be safe to assume, Anei, that your mother was testing Coer for some of those very traits?"

Before Anei could answer Coer bolted back into a sitting position. "You didn't tell her that I was part Galgori, did you?" he demanded frantically, panicked for reasons he wasn't sure of.

Taed slowly turned to Coer with eyes widened in surprise, but found no words.

"Do not worry Vora, the medicine isn't hard to make nor is it unnatural" Hayate said assuringly to the girl who had the Ashead fever. However, there was something else bothering him now, what were the golgari and the priestess goign to do with him? That was what was going through his mind. "Um, lady priestess, I will also be able to leave as well?" He said unsure

"Oh yes, Doctor, I didn't mean to exclude you," Lotelin assured the visitor. "However I believe from the sounds of it that you will be leaving our island and going in a different direction from Vora. You want to help on the 'front lines,' which unfortunately I know very little about. Perhaps Master Kalari can shed some light on that. Vora however seeks a spirit, and to do that she must go into the Fire Nation. Since both she and Cale are nonbenders, I don't think that they will be bothered during the journey."

A knock on the door indicated Cale had returned. I do seem to go through my temple assistants, Lotelin thought as she sighed and headed to the front door. First Taed, then Goen, and now I'm releasing Cale into the outside world. Good grief. "Hey Aunt Loth!" Cale said as he came in. "Good morning, Master Kalari! He--" He stopped short at the sight of the other two.

Well why am I shocked I always get everything bad. Nothing good ever happens to me, Vora thought as she picked up the cup and finished off the rest of her drink which was followed up by the rest of her pastry.

Time would be the only teller of Vora’s fate, what kind of escort would she get? Would he be kind and actually care about who he was taking, or would he just ditch in whatever chance he got?

“Um…I was wondering what is going on with the world?” Vora asked because even though she was always kept inside she had often snuck out and during these periods she had often heard people speaking of the horrors of the outside world and its horrible condition. Just then the door opened and from it a voice could be heard and the owner of that voice was seen walking in. Vora turned to see who it was, although she wasn’t really interested in any form of love, the person who had just walked in wasn’t ugly and wasn’t necessarily disappointed at having seen him.

(No need to repremand me, Taed. I'm on it.)

*Pyrazure*

Master Kalari frowned, genuinely saddened by this girl's predicament. No Bender in his knowledge had ever uncovered their Bending after the age of ten, the hope for a spirit granting her the gift worse than hopeless... The Galgori had been looking for the patron Fire Spirit long enough to know it was very, very well-hidden. A matter for another day.

"The outside world is complicated," he began, "The Fire Nation is locked in bloody stalemate with the Earth Kingdom. The Water Tribes strike where they can from their hidden bases. The Avatar, old tyrant emperor of all Benders in the world, has returned, rousing both forces for and against the Fire Nation. And under it all, we Galgori Hunt for those who abuse the gifts of the spirits." The Master wondered wheither or not to discuss the strange portents than indicated something MAJOR was looming in the near future, possibly even this summer...

"In any event, a few nonBenders in Fire Nation garb and mannerism should be able to make their way through the Fire Nation in peace. Hayate, your service with us will require more private discussions."

*Fuegan*

Anei laughed quietly, looking at the possesed Monk, "Coer found a book which said he had an ancestor at around the time of the Oath who abanoned the Galgori carrying Kaer Sae's child. So, a very small bit of Galgori blood." The older twin continued, smiling at the Bender below her, "And not yet. She was 'being passionate' at you, pleased you were 'being passionate' AND disciplined back, long as you kept up some bargain or other." She raised an eyebrow in question, curious.

"Of course Master Kalari" Hayate said bowing as he turned to face the newcomer. "Hello, my name is Hayate, and you must be the nephew of the Lady Priestess" He said to Cale. In actuality, Hayate just wanted to go out into the world and learn to be a better doctor, he didn't want to wait in the island for much longer.

“Oh,” Vora said as she looked down to the floor and began to think about what was going on with the outside world. There was so much violence and all of it was truly terrible, the Earth Kingdom was in peril, the Fire Nation causing nothing pain and the lowly Water Tribes lay building for the future. Then it came to her this only accounted for three bending disciplines.

“What of the Airbenders?” Vora asked not being familiar with their proper names. Truly anyone who had heard this girl would have known how out of date she was.
