Kissing Ling was great, but seeing the way Ling reacted to the kiss was almost better. Almost. When they parted, Ling's cheeks were bright red, and she struggled to form words. "Wow," Jia laughed as Ling stuttered. "I knew I was good, but not that good." She kept laughing as Ling explained her awkwardness. "Must be difficult being you," she remarked playfully. "Cute as you are, I imagine you get plenty of compliments."
A moment passed as they danced together, moving slowly in time. Jia still felt a bit unsure about the whole dancing thing, but she hadn't crushed Ling yet, so that was something. She raised an eyebrow as Ling tilted her head like she was figuring something out. "What's up?" She had not expected the response she got, and to cover up her surprise, she shrugged. "Guess I am, huh?" Then Ling's hand gently cupped her cheek, and Jia's mind emptied again. Flirting and kissing she was used to, but this, these real romantic gestures…those always caught her off-guard. It had been a while since she'd been on a proper date, too, so this whole day had her feeling slightly out-of-sorts. But happy. She was definitely happy.
The second kiss certainly helped with that. Jia sighed when the music ended and they were forced to pull apart from each other. Her mood brightened, though, when Ling's hand slipped into hers, and she squeezed slightly. She tried to look away as Ling paid the bill at their table—it was only polite, after all—but couldn't help noticing just how much money Ling pulled out. She knew saying anything right at that moment would be pointless, but she kept the number in her mind for later reference. After tonight, she owed Ling something pretty special.
The bill paid, Ling offered her arm, and Jia was more than happy to take it and follow her date outside. Night had firmly fallen while they ate, and with it came a cold breeze; Jia drew Ling's coat tighter around herself. She looked over as Ling spoke, and grinned. "Could do," she agreed. She wiggled her eyebrows. "And you could get in that cab with me, come back to my place, if you want."
