Republic City itself is a bustling place. There are twists and turns and alleyways that only its most knowledgeable citizens remember. Try not to get lost!

OOC: Sorry for the delay, I was missing a few megabytes of muse... *bows*
*Larkspur Lane*
The post office on Larkspur Lane, one of the few in the entire United Republic of Nations where you could still have your mail delivered by messenger hawk. And of course, that came with a certain price. As the dark skinned girl walked out of the building, her hands in her pockets in a way that seemed to denote a need to hold onto the contents, and her face bearing a barely noticeable pout on the mouth, she couldn't help but have mixed feelings about the place. It had the charm of most traditional buildings, along with the hawk coop tower that made it just that much more special than most buildings of this architecture, but at the same time it was just too imposing for the service it offered. Definitely faster than regular couriers and postmen, but more costly.
She felt robbed. And upset. She had come here to make sure her own letter about what had happened the other day at the warehouses would get to her aunt BEFORE the local executive had time to send his report - so as to make it clear that it wasn't her fault, and also that she and her driver had contained the situation quickly. Tough luck, they were sending their mail at the same time. It had only been awkward for her, since the man had no idea of what was in her letter. But her words might not sound so sincere to the Board when they came together with an official report. One of the drawbacks of being related to one of the heads.
Lykka shook her head. Sure, it had cost her more than it should have, but at least it was done. Besides, she was loaded for the next month, thanks to that last delivery. The brand new thick yellow tank top and green sash she was wearing were proof of that - and the hole she made right in the middle of each piece was proof of her lack of maturity. She could only hope they wouldn't cut back on the deliveries to avoid more incidents.... In any case, it was time for a change of subject, an occupation, just something else to do.
"The Avatar is in the city, ladies and gentlemen! Read all about it here! Latest issue of The Republic Times!"
Well that would do ! Getting some interesting information about the city was likely to get her mind off things. And considering that "interesting" usually meant "pro-bending" in terms of information for the young girl, the Avatar's arrival was definitely going to muster all of her attention. Following only the sound of the voice, she finally found the newspaper guy by the corner of a street, waving the news around. She pulled her hands out of her brown pants, and began counting the money she had. It might be a little too much on her mind to be buying something so early after feeling robbed by the post office...
"Hey sir ! I'll have one of those, please !" The young girl told him, expectedly unable to smile as she handed out the yuans. Her green eyes shifted towards the front page of the newspaper, as she tried to avoid having the bills in sight. She could see a picture of a female teenager on it, which surprised her in more ways than one. "Wait, the Avatar is a girl ?" She suddenly voiced out loud.

It was her first time seeing the Avatar's face. For some reason, people didn't seem to think about the Avatar very much in this city. Lykka was the type of girl that kept her ears and eyes open, even though she did not make an effort to remember everything, but she was certain she'd never heard anyone talk about the Avatar until today. Maybe she was the only one surprised that it was a girl, but she bet she wasn't the only one who did not know. At least she expected her to be from the Water Tribes, anyone who cared knew that there was a cycle to the Avatar's home nation and bending.
"Well, that's... I mean yeah, I'm a girl !" She replied angrily, only realizing now that she'd been more sensitive about this tiny gender comment. Covering her chest with the paper, she stuck her tongue out at the boy for what he said. It was not a logical move, but it made sense to her. Sure, her hair was short and she didn't have very visible breasts but... but that was only because she was still young, they would definitely grow bigger within the year - or so she hoped, that inferiority complex was annoying. Regardless, she took offense from that.
Then she just crossed her arms, putting on a superior attitude and looking the opposite way from the guy, holding her chin a bit higher. "And for the record, I think it's great that the Avatar is a girl. The last two were boys and there was a war in the middle." The Earthbender girl stated like an untouchable declaration. She even ran a hand through her hair, letting out a tiny "Hmph !" of womanly arrogance. With a smirk on her face, and after a slight glance at the paperboy, she opened up the news paper and started reading.
So that new Avatar's name was Korra, and she was from the Southern Water Tribe. It said that she was still in training, but also that she had kicked some Triad butt on her first day. And, somewhere in this mass of lines all reporting what the Avatar said or did, and the questions that these writers had on their minds about this promising girl: she had moved to Republic City. That meant, Lykka would get to hear - or in this case read - more about her !! That was such great news !! It was about time Republic City found interest in greater figures.
As if to make a point, or rather to accentuate it, Lykka kept talking while her eyes were scanning the rest of the article. "You know, the last female Avatar was Kyoshi. And history remembers her as the longest living Avatar and greatest Earthbender. Well, she was a woman and she did great things, that's why I think our new Avatar is going to be amazing !!" The dark-skinned girl said with a cheerful voice "I lived on Kyoshi so I-... Hey, are you listening to me ?"

This young lad was irritating. Not only did he seem to lack that ability to talk to people like in a normal social situation, but he also did not have any manners. Lykka was a 13 year old and, aside from those times she was really picking on them on purpose, people always treated her with politeness. Sometimes forced and reluctant, but still a decent level of kindness, the one that was due to cute youngsters. What was happening now was that the newspaper guy just bounced her off his atmosphere. At least that's how the little girl was feeling.
She frowned. There weren't many things she could do right now that would make her feel better. She could follow her logical reaction and sulk, but it might make him rejoice, and she wouldn't feel better. She could give it up and leave him, but he would definitely rejoice, and she definitely would still feel down. There was also the option of waving her cheerfulness in his face and pretty much shout in his ears about the Avatar, or about girls, or even about the architectural history of The Republic Times building... though it would all be pure invention, she didn't know about it - yet !
Instead, she tried to be the nobler one. Her arms crossed over her tiny chest, Lykka let out a cough of... denial maybe, about what he said. "You know, I think people would be more interested in buying your newspapers if they 'felt' like it was worth buying. For example, having a polite discussion with a pleasant customer might send the image that you will put them in a good mood. Who could turn that down ?"
That was solely meant to mess with him and make him a bit more comfortable to talk with - the young delivery girl didn't know a thing about attracting crowds - but for some reason, be it providence, coincidence or convenience, it worked. Somebody stopped right by and asked for the news. Better, this one even sounded like a pleasant customer. "You're welcome !" She tossed with a bow.

...Well that sucked. The whole transaction had only taken a few seconds, just about enough to breathe in and out twice, and maybe even less while looking at it, but to Lykka it took place in four different steps of what resembled a downfall into a pit.
The first step, the standstill of the air that indicated something was missing, that moment when you think you're standing on your own two feet, right before realizing there's no more ground underneath you, when that feeling in your chest is still as stable as always. The paperboy told his customer the cost of the newspaper like for a normal transaction, and the customer was looking through his money to pay. A situation in which she did not take part. She 'could' not.
The second step, when you finally realize that you're falling, but it's too late and you're helplessly left with the confusion of having to deal with something you have no control over, that is your descent into the unknown. Along with that should come the painful realization of a painful end. The customer produced the cash and handed it over, the paperboy took the cash. Half transaction complete, and Lykka's presence - or rather, the way she perceived their awareness of her presence - faded even more, like the sight of the surface while falling.
The third step, that tiny bit of hope that pushes you to extend your hand to reach out to something in order to prevent the inevitable. Something that you see, that may or may not really be there, and that may or may not help you out, but you still want to reach it. The customer smiled at the girl. She did not notice immediately, still dealing with her own confused state. Or maybe she doesn't want to acknowledge it, because it does not fit the situation that's supposedly unfolding in front of her. Regardless, it's still a smile and it's gotta be responded too. So she smiles back... Too late.
The fourth step. It's over. You missed your chance, whether it was real or not, to avoid the rest of your fall and must now either give in to your fate and brace yourself, or panic because you do not want to think about the contact that's about to take place, and you refuse to accept that it's going to hurt... so your body reacts the way it usually does when you panic, which might eventually make it hurt even more. But it doesn't matter because you're nearly at the bottom. The newspaper's sold. Transaction complete. The two are now free to go on their merry ways, one with the money, the other with the paper. The situation breaks into two halves and Lykka is part of neither of them. Instead, all that awaits her... is the ground.
Well, in her case it is less dramatic than it sounds. It would be akin to falling a meter down or something short like that. What hurt more was not the collision with the ground but the fear of it that has built up. It didn't matter that she was left alone, but it did that she'd been ignored... And yet, she just folded her paper and snickered. "Pfft. Adults..." She said to herself, running a hand through her short hair to shed shut the hatch of the sadness that was growing. Falling was not so bad if you could get back up. Besides, she had stuff to do. Such as... she had to... what was it again ?
Alright, she had nothing else to do. But the best thing about that: she could now find something to do. Positive thoughts returning to her once again, she just looked around in hopes of spotting something interesting. But there wasn't anything interesting on Larkspur Lane. Well, if she walked a bit, something would definitely come up. So she turned around and walked the other way... And so it did.
“Excuse me, sir. Can you direct me to the Probending Arena?”
She turned around. The customer was asking for directions, now. Lykka was a delivery girl, it was her cue ! "It's five blocks away to your left, on Yue Bay !!" She shouted from a distance "But you're on the wrong side of town, you'll have to use the bridge and make a detour !!"
