Name: Zhin Takamatzu
Age: Zhin appears to be at least in her early 20s, but is believed to be in her late 30s.
Appearance:
image (note that although the last name was changed, it, like the Tenoko one (wow that was almost 2 years ago) is mine)
Zhin is a small woman. She stands at 4’11” [about 150 cm] and her small frame weighs in at 102 lbs. [little over 46 kg] Her gold eyes and jet black hair are clear indicators of her Fire Nation nationality, as well as her red clothing which she is seen in most of the time. While she is not a noble, she does possess some finery and she cleans up very nicely. Her usual set of apparel is typical casual Fire Nation getup, though she tends to (but not always) go with more conservative and less revealing trends. Her outfits typically consist of something long-sleeved with a knee-length skirt and black boots. She seldom wears anything that reveals her midriff, and, like most Fire Nationers, almost all her clothes are red. Her skin is very pale, and she appears to be always smiling. It is not necessarily a happy smile—just a calm, cool, and collected smirk. While she is not unusually beautiful (or even “above average”) by any means, Zhin spends a good amount of time on herself when her situation allows it, and so she is considered reasonably attractive. Unusual to the Fire Nation, however, is Zhin’s lack of a topknot. Instead, her hair is usually bunched up in a loose bun (or tight ponytail; what it is depends on who you ask)
History:
Zhin was born in a well-to-do middle class family. They were not rich, but they always were able to comfortably get what they needed in life without being extravagant. She was an only child, and was raised by secretive parents. This nature was passed down to Zhin, who to this day remains rather secretive about herself, her actions, and other such things. Zhin was raised as a loyalist to the Fire Nation, and a loyalist she remains. Her own interests are her top priority, however, and it is believed that she only likes the Fire Nation’s agenda because they are winning. Her parents gave her most of what she wanted in her childhood, but they paid little attention to her, and their selfish attitudes were most of what rubbed off onto her. It is said that a person’s environment is part of what shapes their personality, and for Zhin this proved to be the case. She grew up in a household lacking empathy and love, and so these personality traits were the ones Zhin developed as she grew up.
Despite the lack of love from her parents, Zhin did not turn bitter, and nowadays she is usually seen in a good mood. The story behind her continuous smile, however, is one that she keeps a secret. While there is neither evidence nor proof of anything, it is rumored that her paralyzed smile came from something her mother did. Whatever the case, Zhin has trouble moving parts of her lower jaw (and it is impossible for her not to smile), and while it gives her a very distinct accent, it does not hinder her speech. Zhin was taught that the world belonged to those who took initiative and wished to do something. Zhin spent as much time as she could in educating herself, and she read material whenever she had the chance. Zhin’s childhood was full of reading and opportunities for her to educate herself.
As a firebender, she also learned the bending arts, but her small size rendered her abilities to lack in power. Seeing this as a weakness, Zhin trained herself to become evasive and defensive, using counterattacks and evasive techniques to stay ahead of her enemies. She also learned hand-to-hand moves, and learned what the best places on the body were to target in order to deliver the most damage. So while her firebending skills remain on the low end of the intermediate level (if that makes sense), her reflexes, speed, and hand-to-hand skills are considerably better, but are hindered as well by her lack of strength.
Zhin’s early life was fairly uneventful outside of the normal Fire Nation lifestyle. She had heard a few things about the return of the avatar in recent years, but she did not see the threat that one person, regardless of age, could possibly make against the most powerful nation in the world.
Zhin was very educated as a child, particularly in Fire Nation tactics and the likes. Naturally, her views are very biased in favor of the Fire Nation, and she sets herself in these beliefs because of her observations of her nation’s powerful armies and navies. Since her parents paid little special attention to her other than giving her food and shelter, Zhin found company in books, scrolls, and other written media. While she did not have as much access to these luxuries as she would have liked to have had, she read anything that she could get her hands on, and always enjoyed learning something new. Her adulthood was not much different, except that she started travelling more extensively. Her methods of making money have not always been honest, but she did not resort to common thievery. Her logic was one that contained the philosophy that anyone that was dumb enough to get conned by her deserved to lose their money to her. One of her double-edged swords—or vices perhaps was her love of gambling. She knew how to win against others, (even if it involved cheating) and she knew how to rig her own games. Once she was no longer living with her parents, this became her main source of revenue to this day.
Personality:
Just like underneath the casual clothes of the firebender lies the woman herself in her natural beauty, underneath the slightly eerie appearance Zhin gives off is a rather warm personality. Zhin typically, at the very least, acts friendly to all those she meets, because she sees it unnecessary to gain enemies for no reason. She does not, however, allow herself to become threatened, and she refuses to become subject to anyone who wants her to do something she does not wish to do. Generally, if there is something in it for her, she is glad to accept it. She remains loyal to the Fire Nation for that reason—the more they triumph, the more her own status will rise as a Fire Nation citizen, and so that in and of itself is a reason to remain sided with them.
Zhin is reserved and respectful, particularly to her superiors, but she also has a fun and somewhat crazy side. Zhin is believed to be slightly delirious at times, and sometimes she has no logical explanations for some of her actions. Zhin is believed to be bipolar, as she is sometimes quiet and calm, while other times she is hyper and ditzy. Other times still, she is depressed and upset for no reason. Most of the time though, she is in her calm and contented state. Zhin’s mood swings are not instant or sporadic. Rather, it is usually more of a day-to-day thing. Overall, Zhin’s mood remains pretty stable, but when she this a mood swing, it is very obvious. She remains secretive about this as well as her other personality and physical attributes as much as she can though, mostly because she does not like giving information out about herself unless it is absolutely necessary. The less people know about her, the better off she will be—or so she says. Zhin is also believed to suffer slightly from insanity, though this is not linked to her bipolar disorder. Sometimes people lump the two together, and when they do, it greatly annoys her.
Zhin enjoys, surprisingly, small and simple pleasures in life, and she also loves nature in its pure form. She dislikes the opposite of this, and so she often secludes herself in remote, untamed wilderness when she wants some alone time to stop and think. Zhin remains happy when she knows more about someone else than they know about her. The less she has to reveal, the more content she remains.
Zhin remains manipulative, cunning, sharp, tactful, and even a little seductive now that she has reached her adulthood. Her small size combined with her pretty face give her a youthful appearance, and while she is believed to be in her early-mid-30s, her pretty face almost makes her look to be in her 20s instead.
Zhin is not, however, inherently evil. She does not try to manipulate or exploit anyone she crosses paths with, but she does heavily analyze everyone she meets because of the way she was brought up. She lived life under the motto of learning as much about everything as possible so that it would not outsmart her. Intelligence became her key weapon, especially since she lacked (and still lacks somewhat) in physical strength. With quick reflexes and a sharp mind, Zhin remains a formidable opponent.
