Appearance:
Makino is a tall man with broad shoulders, standing a bit taller then the average man in the Fire Nation. Even in his youth he was on the thick side, not overweight in the least just solid. In his early life his hair was jet black, but now due to a combination of his age and the stress he has been under it is touched with grey at his temples. His brown eyes are sharp and inquisitive if he has you in his sight; he has tanned skin from spending time outside. He has always proudly worn the colors of the Fire Nation.
History:
Makino was born to two Fire Nation nobles; a beautiful and strong willed mother named Tohru, yet she was not strong enough to prevent her own death. It was a happy and sad day when Makino was brought into this world, happy because he was a strong baby, but sad because Tohru lost her life for her son’s. His father Akira a battle hardened man; also a strong Firebender was forced to raise his son alone. Sure there are some people that think growing up without a mother is hard, but how can you miss someone you never knew? Akira did everything that he could for his son, teaching him how to fight, instilling a sense of duty to the Fire Nation, and of course manners. He was in the same class as Prince Ozai, they were not friends more like acquaintances. Makino grew up into a fine young man, when he was sixteen his world took a different turn. Akira had informed his son about the arrangement of being betrothed to the daughter of one of his oldest friends.
Zhai Li, was a vision of beauty when Makino first met her that he was trying not to trip over himself. During their two years of engagement they got to know each other and became friends. It did make their life together easy, for it was a wise thing if the love of your life was both your wife and your friend. Soon after they were wed the knowledge of becoming parents, they were both ecstatic. They were blessed with a little baby girl, they decided to name her Karena. While she was young her grandmother passed away, she had been sick for quite some time. Latter during the same year Akira died in battle against the Earthbenders.
Karena grew up to be a lovely young woman, with just too much of her father in her. In all ways, she was her father's daughter. Zhai Li was not very happy when they found out that at an early age their little Karena was a Firebender. As for Makino he was thrilled and started to teach her the basic forms of firebending without the fire until she got her from down first, only then would he allow for her to combine what she was taught. Zhai Li only tolerated all of this because news that Princess Azula was a Firebending prodigy made the whole thing slightly acceptable.
Makino had to go off and fight from time to time, doing his duty for the great Fire Nation. Life settled into a pattern of sorts, one that they could all live with. During an horrific battle with Earth Kingdom he was injured severely giving him a permanently weakened knee forcing him to resign. The Fire Lord took an interest in his daughter for he had asked about her and knew that Prince Zuko would need a strong woman, and more importantly a strong Firebender.
Zhai Li and Makino had almost given up hope that they would never find anyone to marry Karena. One day Makino came home to announce that the Fire Lord wished for their children to marry, it was the answer to their problem and more then they could hope for. To their vast embracement Karena and Zuko had started off on the wrong foot, well things stayed on the same level. They both hated each other; Makino hoped that things would get better until the day Prince Zuko had been banished. And their daughter as well, Zhai Li’s heart broke that day. Her husband did what he could for his wife and even brought her a small koi fish in a glass tank for her to take care of. But nothing could change the fact that their child was gone.
It had opened up his eyes on how ruthless the Fire Lord was, and also how unbalanced the man really was. It would only take him a while until a plan formed he would find a way to gather information and people that wanted the Fire Lord out of power. The only problem would be that the next in line would be Azula, so they would have to work out a way to get Zuko back in. Karena had been banished for six months by the time he was able to get a core staff of men under him, they had plans all laid out. He has two men under him that know what to do just incase he is found out, so that the Resistance would go on. One of the rising young men working in the Resistance had won his approval, his name is Takeno. The young man had worked hard to work his way up so quickly, just as he did improve his rank in the army.

Makino is a man that knows how to be cool headed during stressful times. Although there is a temper simmering underneath his cool exterior, he just knows how to handle most situations. In his youth he was a real hot head, but age has brought him wisdom and a more evened out fury. He is a leader of men, and knows how to be fair and just while staying firm in his beliefs. He is walking a dangerous line living a double life; acting like the loyal citizen to the Fire Nation, and the leader of the Resistance. He is a passionate man that never does anything half-heartedly. Makino is one man that you do not want to cross or stand in the way of his goal.
