OOC: Well, I decided to apply for Suki since she’s available right now. I’ve always liked her; she’s a fun and strong character. I’ve placed this application right before she appears in the episode “The Serpent’s Pass.” I don’t really know if anything has happened with Suki here in the RP, so I’m just basing this on as much canon as I am able to, concentrating on her relationship with Sokka and the impact Aang’s visit to the island had on her. I'm not sure it's good enough, but I gave it the good old college try. Hope you like it!

People shuffled about the hidden ferry harbor, not a single smile on any of their faces. There was only tension, fear, apprehension, and exhaustion. But, perhaps underneath there was something better, something positive. Hope. Desperate hope that if they could just get on that small ferry, just reach the walls of Ba Sing Se, they would be safe.

Suki sighed and tightened the ribbon holding her auburn hair into a short ponytail. The motion sent her dark brown and faded spring green hat forward, so she pushed it back into place. If only she and the other Kyoshi Warriors were able to wear their traditional uniforms instead of the unarmored ivory and olive green cloth security uniform they had to wear. Yes, it could be worse, but sometimes Suki wondered if it wouldn’t be better to be armored if trouble came to them.

Trouble. That was far too light a term to place on what was going on in the world. Suki was only fifteen, but had been trained as an honorable Kyoshi Warrior since she was eight. At first it was always to protect her island, her home, from intruders. They had stayed out of the war for so long, and had intended to keep it that way. Why go seek war and destruction? As long as Kyoshi Island was safe, and it was thanks to Suki and the other Warriors she was leader of, everything was fine.

That was before Aang, Katara and Sokka came to the island. Of course they seemed like intruders at first, a bald kid who claimed to be the Avatar, a girl and a loud mouth boy that in an instant would have been thrown to the unagi. But Aang proved he was the Avatar and everything changed. Everyone on the island felt rejuvenated, determined to give the Avatar the welcome he deserved. After all, he was the reincarnation of Avatar Kyoshi, who had founded their island. A nice monk who spent most of his time on the island being mobbed by the young girls. As he brought joy to the girls, the Water Tribe girl Katara continued to prepare for the rest of the journey. She was a responsible girl who, in Suki’s opinion, had leadership qualities in her that would help keep the boys she traveled with on task.

But then there was the loud mouthed Water Tribe boy Sokka. He sauntered into their training house, making chauvinistic remarks as if he were the best warrior the world had ever seen. The trademarks of a wounded ego, and he was looked to repair it. Suki wasn’t going to stand for that, though. No way! That bullheaded boy needed another lesson in humility and she gave it to him in spades. She remembered how funny it had been to hand his rear end back to him, but was in for quite a shock when he returned, begging for her to teach him. It did throw her for a loop, but she relented. His plea had been honest and showing him just how good the Kyoshi Warriors were was an added bonus.

She had disliked Sokka at first, but she had to admit he had grown on her. Over the days they trained together, Suki started enjoying the sessions, and his annoying personality traits turned into endearing once. It didn’t hurt that he was attractive.

It all ended with the hot searing blasts from the troop of firebenders that had come for Aang. All the Warriors had fought to defend their home, but the soldiers were well trained. Aang had fought against their leader, doing what he could to stop them, but the homes around him were not withstanding the assault. So much around them was burning.

In all the chaos, hidden behind one of the homes that had not yet been ravaged, Suki had to say goodbye to Sokka. Suki lived her life in honesty, be honest with yourself and with others, and you would always be alright. You would always be balanced. Her honor and strength came from within, reflected in everything she did. Touched by Sokka’s parting words, Suki did what she felt was right: she kissed him on the cheek goodbye. Her words to him were the entire truth, perhaps the best words to describe her. She was a warrior, but she was a girl too. She would fight to the very end, but she would never deny the feelings that made her who she was.

And then they were gone, along with the Fire Nation. Kyoshi Island was left to rebuild their damaged homes, but something in Suki had changed. No longer could she just stand by and defend only her home. Aang, Katara and Sokka were out there, doing what they could stop the war for good, and helping anyone who needed it along the way. They were making a true difference. Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors were protectors of the people. Wasn’t the entire Earth Kingdom the people? Didn’t they need as much defending as the people of Kyoshi? The time had come for Kyoshi to contribute to stopping the war, and as much as Suki hated leaving the only home she had ever known, the rest of the world needed her more. Suki left, leading the Kyoshi Warriors to the warfront, intent to protect the world they were a part of.

Suki’s blue-grey eyes scanned the huddled refugees, some sitting outside light grey tents. Well, everything in the hidden port was grey to her. While the light shone from the water’s horizon, it never seemed to penetrate the rocky alcove where all the people awaited their departure. No fights were breaking out, nobody protesting or causing trouble. Was this the best place for the Kyoshi Warriors? Sometimes Suki wondered if they were needed more elsewhere, somewhere in the heat of battle, but then she would see the look on the faces of the displaced people. They were in need of protecting, for who knew when the Fire Nation would find this place? In the end, this was the best place for the Warriors now…even if her heart yearned to be elsewhere.

Maybe it was more of a selfish desire to see Sokka again that made her restless. Of course she wanted to see him again, but she could not let it rule her life. She had to remain strong, and believe that someday she would see him and the others again. Suki would never deny her feelings, but always knew she had to serve the greater good. That was what a warrior did.

It was time to continue her patrol. Suki walked amongst the people, her keen eyes scanning the crowd, her ears ready for any potential disturbance. The normal sounds were the chorus of tense whispers and cries of upset children. But wait…another voice was above that all. Familiar, and loud. Suki weaved through a few people to the area where people lined up for tickets. There it was. Handsome strident blue in the sea of beiges and greens that dominated the clothing worn by the refugees. Familiar blue worn by a boy and a girl. And a bald little boy with an arrow on his head.

Just be patient and things will work in your favor. Suki believed that wholeheartedly and here was the proof. A scheming smile crossed her face as she watched the group leave the line with their tickets. Even in these times Suki felt that some good natured humor could go a long way. That was probably the girl in her talking. That was okay. Her greeting was going to be fun for her, and probably fun for Sokka too. Pulling his chain was so easy and so hilarious.

After all, she may be a warrior, but she is a girl too.
