I've noticed that my number of posts doesn't go up even though I've replied in several threads. So my predicament is: Is there a set amount of characters, words, lines, etc. for a post to be counted?

Hi there. =] No, but only certain areas will affect your post count. The only areas that will increase your post count are the areas that are RP & A:tLA Discussion related.
