In the episode return to omashu, what exactly was Azula bending. At first i thought it was lightning, now i think its blue flame. Do you think this is a higher level fire bending, or just part of Azula's personality?

Princess Azula is Zuko's fifteen-year-old younger sister, first seen in the audience at Zuko's ill-fated Agni Kai. Azula seems to take great pleasure in the punishment inflicted on her brother, and may hold designs on his throne, while her older brother, Zuko, and uncle Iroh both express resentment towards her. Zuko dislikes her because she was "born lucky" and Iroh, possibly because she is a nasty tempered brat. Being a firebending prodigy, and the favored sibling, everyone adored her, and judging by her ship and soldiers, was given the better treatment. In the final seconds of the season finale, Fire Lord Ozai is seen giving her an unspecified task, which is most likely capturing Zuko and Iroh.
In "The Avatar State", Azula attempts and fails to capture Zuko and Iroh, (now considered traitors to the Fire Nation) luring Zuko with the false promise of being accepted back home with open arms. When Zuko learns of the deception, he attacks her, but is unable to land a single blow. However, her over-inflated ego was certainly damaged when Iroh channeled her lightning attack away from Zuko and into a cliff, and then kicked her off the edge of her ship and into the ocean. She is revealed to be proficient in the highly difficult technique of creating and controlling lightning, (a technique previously only displayed by Iroh in the episode "The Storm") and relentlessly drills herself towards perfection. She enjoys tormenting her brother, calling him by a disliked nickname, "Zuzu", and mentioning his inferiority in their father's eyes. She is likewise vindictive and ruthless with others, and does not hesitate to threaten death upon those who would disobey (but she seems to have no tolerance for males as she is seen constantly being heartless to them). She is also a spoiled, mean-hearted perfectionist, pushing herself onward to be perfect in bending. She is also rather vain, constantly playing with her hair and examining her cat-like nails.
The name "Azula" may be a deliberate corruption of the Sanskrit word "Asura", for mythical demons of Hindu and Buddhist mythology. (Though reports from Comic-Con initially dubbed her "Zula", her real name was leaked on the TV.com forums.)
Azula first appears in a cameo in "The Storm, and another at the end of the second half of "Siege of the North". She makes her first speaking debut in "The Avatar State", voiced by Grey DeLisle. She is also the firebender shown to represent her element in the opening sequence of each show. Her firebending also utilizes blue flames, likely from a special trait that she was born with (much like Katara's ability to heal). The color may also indicate that the heat of the flames is extremely intense compared to the more common red ones.
