Definitely Iroh.

He is wise, likes tea, humorous, likes tea, keeps (or kept) Zuko in check, likes tea, a great warrior, likes tea, a great tactician, likes tea, easy going, likes tea, did I mention he likes tea?

Seriously though, between his great wisdom both in regards to battle and in regards to life in general, and his light-hearted easy-going nature, he quickly became and easily remained my favorite character in the series.

I have A tie for zuko and Aang.
Aang is alot like me as in he is hyper and he is an airbender and firebender, because hes the avatar duh!
And Zuko becaue He is loveable in my eyes and just needs a huge hug!

What can I say, I've always been a sucker for choosing the unoriginal main character. They're always the most worked with, the ones that the camera focuses on the greatest. You see the best action moments from them because that's what the creators want you to see, the hero in a positive light. For second place I would have to go with Zuko or Toph, who each have their own assortment of scenes that make them appear awsome on the show.

Totally Iroh. He is both wise and tolerant and always has good advice. His experience alone makes him my most favorite because it has brought him both knowledge and strength, which he moderates between perfectly. He is one of the main reasons why I watch Avatar.

Btw, running a close second is Zuko...

That's such a hard question. I love all the main characters for various reasons. I love Aang's sense of humor and optimism, Sokka's sarcasm and non-bending kicking of other peoples' butts, Katara's dedication and kindness, Toph's caustic nature and sheer coolness, Zuko's inner turmoil, Iroh's tea loving and being made of awesome.

It's so hard to choose...And while my first instinct is to say Iroh, because any scene with him is great and I have nothing be the deepest respect for Mako, I might have to go with Zuko. I never lose interest in watching his development, and whether villain or anti-hero, his journey is very compelling. Just interpreting his dream in the Earth King alone is facinating to me. Doesn't hurt that he's got the 'popular bad boy' vibe going for him. His overall character arc is more drastic than a lot of the other characters. I wish I could just vote for the Zuko/Iroh team, because their interaction is great.

I love Toph and Azula most. But my favorite would have to be the butt kicking Fire princess. She knows what she wants and isnt does whatever it takes to get it. Shes got a grasp on almost everything and can easily take down anybody. shes also quite funny in her own little way. Seeing how she can actually put up with Ty lee without murdering her. I dont really know why but I love that little fire bending Biotch.

Blasphemy! Only Toph deserves the respect of the masses!

Really, for four simple reasons.

1) She's awesome

2) She's blind, but still kicks more butt than the rest of them combined

3) She is the only really streetwise of the group, is more at home in the wilderness than the rest, makes armpit hair from bison fur, and can earthbend, which is my favorite bending discipline

4) She's funny. Maybe not as funny as a character designed for nothing but comic relief like Sokka, but most of the time her funniness doesnt come from oneliners and instead from situational irony, which I can find myself appreciating more than a one-liner or a doofus slapstick routine.

Okay, so more than four. But I still fit them all in these four! Just cuz I'm too lazy to list each character trait under its own number....

This is a hard question, but I can give you my opinion of the characters listed.
Aang: Nice guy, most likely a gemeni, which is great. Maybe Aquarius, even better...
Zuko: I can admit to being a fan-girl. v.v Since a trailer I saw for Avatar back on Tak and the Power of Juju I've been a fan. He's a deep character, slightly angsty, and you never quite know how he's going to react to something until he acts. Always keeps the show interesting.
Iroh: Self-explanitory. He's wise and laid-back, and a neutral character, which is AWESOME.
Sokka: Ah, the pessimistic Sokka. He's quite a bit like the real me, though I'm a bit more hyper, so I'm naturally drawn to his character.
Toph: Quite the character. Once again, a lot like me, or a character I'd create.
Katara: I luff her. She's strong willed, powerful, and, oh yeah, hot.
Momo: Flying...lemurs...
Appa: That Appa's got a real sense of humor.
Azula: If there were ever need of proof that Mary Sues do in fact exist in T.V. shows or video games, one need look no further than the fire princess. It's perfectly acceptable to be a strong female, but when they're pretty much perfect, well, look at Rinoa Heartilly.
Zhou: ...looks like a monkey. But I admit, Azula feels as if she's there to replace Zhou as a villan...and it doesn't work. The show doesn't feel the same without him. ;_;

*GASP*

Azula? normal??!?!?! Hah! Azula is the only known villain who isn't a stupid person who leaves about a thousand loose ends. She heartlessly manipulates things in ways that even the creators hardly understand. She knows how to pschycologically manipulate everyone. She deserves no label, she is much above any common label! She has recently been recruited into the female villain hall of fame, along with Phage and Lust (FMA). Yes, well, anyway, Azula is not "perfect", she is just superior to all.

I change my vote, by the way.

Toph is cool and all, but Sokka is hilarious and I love funny...in addition to that Sokka is a true warrior and has heart and perserverance, kinda like I in a way...hehe. On topic though, Sokka is the coolest, Toph might be able to make mountains, throw boulders, make rock spikes, and other cool things, but Sokka...Sokka..can throw a boomerang, that's a little cool. In the end, Sokka's humor makes up for everything. ;D

I don't see how Momo wasn't mentioned! He is amazing! He is all super smart and flys around and is cute and he has big eyes and ears and he is like a monkey more than a lemur I think but which makes him even more cool! Plus he is crazy. He drinks cactus juice and flips out!

Momo wins hands down.

But my runner-up would probably be Iroh. (R.I.P. Mako *crycry*). Basically because he pwns and is one of the only smart Fire Nation I've seen. Plus he is basically a master Firebender, which is always fun.

Why is Katara underappreciated so? She is so cool, with her master waterbending, ultimate binding together of the team and ability to pwn Zuko in every way. Also, she shatters icebergs when angry, and penguin sleds. Also, she makes a Magic the Gathering legend: Katara, Bringer of Hope. Furthermore, she can heal people from the brink of death, saved Aang's life multiple times, and can defeat the entire Dai Li at once. Not to mention the fact that she is the only non-avatar level bender who pwns Azula. My official favorite is Katara. I am a Katara fanboy.

My favorite Charecter is Ty Lee and suki but they are not Main Charecters So my favorite Main charecter is toph . I like toph so much because she is very independant and a strong . She is also funny and sarcastic at times . She is also a awesome bender and can do almost anything she puts her mind to .

Oh my goodness.. who to choose? I like them all for different reasons.

Aang is such a sweetheart. He's so innocent as a kid, and yet so strong as the Avatar. In the beginning of season 1, all he really cared about was having fun. It's so cute of him.

Sokka is hilarious! He's just.. ugh. I can never get enough of him.

Sokka: This was in my dream. Guys, we shouldn't go to the market.
Katara: What happened in your dream?
Sokka: Food eats people!
Katara: -_-
Sokka: Also, Momo could talk. You said some very unkind things.
Momo: 0_o

I voted Iroh because he never seems troubled about anything. I envy his lifestyle and attitude towards life. His obsession with tea is so funny. I just love him. Sometimes, I wonder how he can be so patient with Zuko. He's a great guy.

a cou then takes over she owns the rest before all that she is a master taction she shot
lightining at Iroh and he couldent block it when in one of the episodes you clearly saw him channel the lightning from azula into him and into the clouds easily

I'm going to have to say Sokka. I honestly love all the characters on this show, but he makes me laugh the most. All the things he says are really funny, and I can relate to how he feels sort of useless and pulled along by the tide all the time.

A close second would probably be Zuko. He's such a good character. He's the underdog, and always has to fight to get anywhere. He's so desperate and pathetic. >.<

And yes, I agree Azula is quite the amazing villain. *coughunlikezukoorzhaocough* She quite deserves to win. It isn't like the Fire Nation is going to round up benders and send them to Azkaban--speaking of which, better finish that book. After this.

Iroh. Is there any character as deep as he in the series? Aang is simply a kid with the weight of the world on his shoulders, tragic, awesome, but not deep. Azula is simply the ideal villain. Katara? Her personality is not surprising, considering being basically forced to be responsible for the tribe while learning Water-bending. A hard life, but not quite layered like Iroh's. Sokka is a twit. Momo--well, he's the exception, because of his concealed aura of mystery. I won't try and explain him. Appa is a friendly, loving person that relies more on instinct than thought. Zuko is an emo imbecile--not to hurt anyone's feelings.

Iroh, however has many layers, many different lives in the path of his life. The outermost layer is of a polite old man who loves tea. The second layer is an extremely wise Fire-bending master. The third is the retired failure of a conqueror. Finally, he is a father. Only in his most tender of moments will he show this--in fact, pretty much only when Zuko is about to risk his life or mourning Lu-Ten. Simply put, he can't really be simply put.

Iroh is awesome.
