Hanabi after he defeat of Dosu in Omashu sets out on a pilgrimage to visit her father's statue in a stone garden dedicated to the admirals of the Fire Nation. From there she moves on in her advancing her career quickly in the Fire Nation.
In Hanabi's company is Kyoko Tang, her first student whom she took under her wing as an apprentice and a good friend to teach her style of Firebending.
Hanabi's lack of manners and personal tact almost gets her a court martial, however she manages to redeem herself by personal strength and record.
During the day of Black Sun Hanabi fights strongly for her nation, but despite not having a personal loss, with the fall of Fire Lord Ozai she is left with the option of Prison or Reforming under the new Fire Lord. Hanabi, having always served the Fire Nation agrees to serve the new Fire Lord. Declaring her loyalty has always been for the people of the Fire Nation and not a specific lord.
Hanabi leads several aggressive campaigns against rebellions and defensive operations to help rebuild and keep the Fire Nation secure. Hanabi, despite lacking personal charm climbs quickly through the ranks of the Fire Nation to the rank of Admiral.
Now close to thirty years old, Hanabi starts teaching her style, the quivering flame to all who will learn her fathers style. She imparts this new form of powerful firebending to all those who would learn it. Very few however manage to grasp the new style with all of the pain and dedication required to hone it both physically and mentally. The few that did went on to become Honor Guards for the Fire Lord.
Hanabi now middle aged, her style passed on sees a world in unrest and one night while in a time of need is almost killed. An assassin from the Earth Kingdom uses a mineral based poison of the same mix that had almost killed her when she was a child and stabs her and tries to get rid of her body by throwing it out of the window of the place she was going into the sea.
Hanabi, still conscious manages to pull herself the rocky shore and lies their until she manages to weather out the worst of the poison.
Hanabi instead of returning and dispelling the thoughts that she was dead let herself sail off into the world to track the Assassin's that had tried to kill her. Their relationship to her past making her want to hunt them down to bring closure to a childhood she hadn't known needed closing.
Hanabi lives on, even as her body ages she remains strong, still fighting, still powerful long, long into the future. Hanabi discovers a method of extending her life through a mix of good self care and a mad apothecary's help.
It is said that when several members of the Honor Guard died of old age that a muscular old lady, with perfect posture and strong mismatched eyes stood over their graves, honoring their passing.
