Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

That said, I think a CUTER couple is Aang/Katara... however, a SEXIER couple is Zuko/Katara [even though I don't ship Zutara anymore, I can't deny that it is definitely the sexier of the two pairings].

Also, it's Kataang, or Aangtara, not Kang. =3

I also agree. Zutara IS sexy, but Kataang was the way it should have been. I can picture a bond of love between Zuko and Katara, but it's more of a platonic bond than anything. I can't see a romantic relationship forming between the two, and Kataaang seemed more natural. I dunno, I think it has something to do with Katara's hang-ups about the Fire Nation and Zuko being the Prince/FIre Lord. In any case, I was glad things turned out the way they did. :)

I GUESS Katara+Aang is a 'cute' relationship but my perspective of cute must differ from everybody else's. I'm a personal fan of Zuko and Katara's relationship potential, perhaps solely because I have always been highly titillated by the concept of villains and heroes overcoming their silly bad-guy/good-guy constraints in order to unify and create interesting plot twists and ambiguously unstable relationships.

Soft spot for that whole thing. I have played a villain many, many times and am fantastic at it, but occasionally I go so far as to have my character pine for the loving embrace of a goody-two-shoes lassy.

But back on subject, I think it has the potential to be cuter. You guys may be forgetting just how prude Zuko was prior to getting with Mai, and how verdant and awkward he was when he was posed with that filler-date and Iroh pushed him into it.

That, my friends, is charm.

Zuko and Katara would have been an AMAZING couple, if it has even been a possibility. Seriously, Katara and Zuko barely even acknowleged each other and Aang has been in love with Katara since the begining. Plus, the only episodes where Zuko and Katara were even friends were the one where they go looking for the guy who killed Katara's mother, and the very end against Azula. The only possible way something could have happened between Zutara, would be if Katara actually had the chance to heal Zuko's scar, and Aang died because she didn't have any spirit water left to heal him. Honestly, Zutara, doesn't exist. It was made up by crazed fans. Also, Zuko is a much better match with Mai, and Katara loves Aang. It IS kind of weird though how Katara is two years older than Aang. It would be like one of my friends dating my little brother *shudders* At that young of an age, its better to have the girl be only one year older IF shes even older at all.

I disagree that it was made up by crazed fans. Zutara may have been started as a fad among shippers, but Mike & Bryan definitely added fuel to the fire. Giancarlo Volpe, one of the writers of Avatar. In one of his journal entries on deviantArt, it states, "Look closely at the notes for 208, panel A. It clearly states, "Katara watches Aang O.S. (off screen) smiling and blushing." That's right. SMILING AND BLUSHING. Aang kissed her and she LIKED IT. And yet, if you look at the actual drawing, her cheeks look flush, but she's anything but smiling. How could this be? An innacuracy in the storyboard? Why does it say one thing, but depict another?" [...] "BUT THEN was instructed by a ..."higher authority" to change that specific reaction."

Kataang was specifically kept vague til the end; if there had been no Zutara fodder, and/or if Kataang had been FULLY declared as canon from the get-go, ATLA would've lost a lot of viewers.

I definately see your point there, but just because Katara wasn't sure about her relationship with Aang, doesn't mean that she was interested in Zuko. When Aang kissed Katara and she didn't really react, she did not even know Zuko except for as the creep followed them around. The only direct fuel that was thrown on the "Zutara flame" was when Zuko and Katara we're in the Earth Kingdom prison, but Aang burst in before anything happened and she imediately hugged him and ignored Zuko. Then everything went downhill from there for Zutara.

That's not what I'm saying at all. =/ I'm saying that Zutara fans were fed "Zutara clues" by Mike and Bryan to keep ratings up, not that those clues had any founding canonically whatsoever.

I'm not saying that Zutara exists [only in the minds of its shippers!], but rather that in order to keep ratings up, Mike and Bryan left their intention [Kataang] vague.

Zutara, ftw! They're the shmexier couple. They're both hot and cold. [/patheticjoke]

No, but seriously — I always was a Zutara fan ever since that necklace business (omg, that rhymed... sort of) back in the first season. That season finale in Ba Sing Sei, second season for those who have serious memory issues, just made me squee like a yaoi fan girl.

But, as history shows, the hero always gets the gal. Well, in theory anyway.

I'm a Zutarian through and through. I liked Aang up until around "Day of the Black Sun" [which actually was also when I started to detest Katara, but I'll get into that some other time]

Incidentally, I got into Avatar around season III, and the first episode I actually saw was a ripped video of "The Western Air Temple", in January 2008.

anyhoot, Zutara, through and through. the finale [which I think sucked terribly] made Kataang much too rushed for even me to appreciate, and that says something, 'coz I was generally neutral up till that point.

Nowadays, I'm a more adamant Zutarian because it's fun to annoy Kataangers.

but yeah, summed up, I was born an Avatard Zutarian, and my stubbornness prevented any change, so... chaz. =3

Yeah so I love Zuko and Katara, but I'm totally a Kataanger. Zutarians tend to forget the crucial fact that Zuko already has a girlfriend, Mai. I think Zuko and Mai make a much better couple than Zuko and Katara could. Katara could never get over the fact that Zuko is fire nation. Also, both Katara and Zuko are highly dynamic characters with a lot of passion and personality. They would make each other crazy! Zuko needs someone like Mai who doesn't have such a strong personality in order to balance him out. Also. with every couple, they show a desire for someone of equal or greater strength. Zuko, while strong, is not as strong as Katara who could be considered a prodigy (she can blood bend). Zuko is strong, but not special, Mai is strong but not special. Even Sokka and Suki, as shown in the Kyoshi Island episode are of pretty matched strength (as in once Suki teaches Sokka how to fight). This is also why Toph ends up alone at the end. Toph believes that she is the best and no one is of matched strenghth as shown in the episode where she learns to metal bend. Katara and Aang are both unusually strong, so they are of matched strength. Furthermore Aang needs someone older because he is matured beyond 12 years and you can see as the series goes on, that his decisions are mature and though out, in the beginning he is very immature and Katara has no interest, but by the time he faces Ozai, he no longer behaves like a typical 12 year old boy, and Katara is interested. When Aang first prepares to face Ozai is when they have their first kiss, but when Aang behaves immaturely at the play is when Katara becomes unsure, but when he shows his maturaty and strength against Ozai, then she kisses him again. So! In conclusion, Katara and Zuko could have a one night stand, but nothing that would ever last.

ZukoxKatara

I really don't care if Mae is his girlfriend or not, they don't seem to have anything in common except their gloom and doom attitudes... besides, Zuko probably wont keep his forever after the whole ordeal is over. Mae starts showing her personality in the last episode, however, Katara would be way better for Zuko. Katara was the first person in the group to trust him, to actually give him a chance... that's saying something considering her grudge against the Fire Nation. That brings up the fact that she was looking for some good in Zuko, that she wanted to trust him. Zuko betrayed her trust, sure, however, they made up later. Not to mention the last episode hinted at them getting together in the future. Perhaps it's their friendship in the end that makes me lean that way.
