Apparantly Iroh learned a technique by studying with waterbenders.
Does this mean not only the Avatar can learn and master all 4 elements?

Still, even if he didnt master the art, he still incorporate water bending philosophies into fire bending.
Could this be possible with ANY element?

He's right... No one can learn more than one element except for the Avatar.
And it gets annoying when people on this site say THEY can bend more than one element.

No, other than the avatar, I don't think bending multiple elements is possible. They may adopt certain characteristics from other bending styles and incooperate them into their own like Iroh. (Who is still Alive YAY)

Maybe at the round between aang and Ozia he will find out you can do that, probally bend fire with 1 hand and earth with another. I was just thinin about this question with my friend one day.

Don't think that can be done even for an fully trained avatar I'm mean as we've seen all the bending disciplines require very different things so it would be difficult to use two at once.

Iroh learned the technique by studying the Waterbenders, that only means that he studied their benidng. Katara even says in the opening, "Only the Avatar, master of all 4 elements..." which leads me to believe that the Avatar is the only who can, or that statement would be misleading.
It is possible, though, that if 4 Master Benders from all 4 elements worked together that they could stop a fully trained Avatar.

Depends, in the avatar state not only does he have mastery of all bending elements, but he also has all the past knowledge of his previous lives. Some may see it as 4 against one, but the avatar is hardly one person >.<

So the believe is that Avatar State aside, A team of Masters from each element working perfectly together can take on the avatar.
But once the Avatar state comes into play, it is highly unlikely that the Avatar can be defeated.

Agreed. The avatar state displays power beyond the masters of the different elements (so far as we've seen). I mean, avatar kyoshi splitting the continent in two(sorta), seems quite impossible for a master like Bumi to do.

Indeed. However I think that it would be intresting to see what bending abilities we could get by applying the different bending philosophies. Please note that the users would not be bend different element other than their natural one. I just wish that we knew more about the different bending philosophies.

I don't think even four master benders can defeat a fully trained avatar besides the Avatar State there is a level of bending that only avatars are allowed to achive live went we saw Kioshi bending lava I don't think any master fire bender can do that and I'm guessing she used both water bending and earth bending to move the island away (but I'm guessing it was mostly water bending) do you honestly think that a master water bender would have the ability to move an island?

I think Avatar Kyoshi was in the Avatar state at that point. Her eye were all glowy, if I remember correctly ^_^
When people say their characters have (for example) an earthbending father and a firebending mother and were born with both abilities, there's an obvious fallacy.
I believe that some bending traits are dominant and would be the one inherited, or they would just balance each other out and cancel the ability alltogether.

I could rreally see that. A master using movemnts from different bending disciplines. I mean I could imagine a waterbender using earthbending mocements to bend. She would just open her hand up and soften the movemnts by slowing them down and making them more circular than linear like most Earthbending moves are. And even then earthbending uses some soft Crane-like moves which can be easily assimilated into the movements of Waterbenders.
Another bending adaptation taht we actually see is the connection between Water and Air. We see a perfect example of that in "The Fortune Teller". Katara and Aang used the same movemnts to shape the cloud while Katara was using Water while Aang used Airbending.
Earth+Fire is kinda harder but its still possible. If you notice Fire and Earth bending are more external arts than Water and Air which are more internal arts. So each resembles each other. Lets just keep it at that..
