One would say that theses stories are part of folklore. I would definitely throw the story of water bending in that category but have trouble with the Earth bending story. Maybe they are nothing but excuses to something even they don't fully understand.

Gosh that was a big arguement over nothing... but anyways it would be cool if people actually were born with bending arts. (to get back on subject..)It would be cool to bend because you would feel so powerful and stuff. But the world could never be that way because some people would take it to far.. its sad..

did i just sound like a fortune cookie?

Yes..


Anyway. I think you have to be born with it, becasue as a lot of other people said, there would be a lot more benders. Also, the only reason that the first benders could bend is becasue they were taught by some magical mole or the moon or something else. Also in the Aunt Wu episode, one little twin said "I'm not!" After someone asked him if he was an Earthbender. I mean "I'm not!" Pretty much clears it up.

I think that you better write it on the thread "Bending : Genetics or Spirits" because you're talking about the source of the bending.
