the water only.

Last i checked it was the water they were bending. And really it was only one of them that actually bended the vines the others just used the water to move their boats. If they did have power to bend the trees ect then the swamp would be the deadliest place for anyone to stand there even a firebender would have problems because just because trees burn doesnt mean they burn that fast.

the guy who bent the vines was only bending the water stored within. The swampbenders could only bend water. they did not create the storm. trees are living beings and the ability to bend a living being would give a person incredible power.

of course if anyone had the abillity to control any other living being is ridiculous. Even if some managed to bend bacteria hell that person could be the destroyer or the savior of the world because well bacteria kills and ya lol.

As for the storm i believe the forest itself bended it in some mysterious way

i think i have to diagree with Xia-di because the one guy who could bend the vines said that he could bend water AND plants. he didn't say that he could bend water and stuff that absorbs water, he said water and plants. so i think that one guy can bend the two instead of just the one because if it was like what Xia-di said don't you tink that all of the swambenders would use their waterbending powers to bend stuff that absorbs water like vines. But there is just the one guy that does it.

no, he says he bends the water in the vines. he does not bend the water and plants. watch the episode. i have it on right now and he says, in reply to Sokka about the tornado, "I can't do anything like that. I just bend the water in the plants."

Ya Xia-di is right i'll confirm this once i finish the DL of Season 2

The guys can't bend the plants because like i said it would give the "plant-benders" and incredible advantage over any others that want to wander around the swamp

To me it sounds like he is water bender. If he lived in the swamp all those years and the trees were able to absorb water for an even longer amount of time then he is a water bender not a swamp bender. He is old so I am sure he has near mastered waterbending and the roots are so saturated with water that he can bend them.
