Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

I don't think most of our rules apply. Alot of real world physics, laws, and perceptions are altered by the setting of the series. I don't see why people break it down into chemistry and atoms when it's really Chi and Spirit. If you want to get deep into the lore, a Water bender is just a person who has learned how to conrtol the flow of Chi, thus creating water bending and healing. A fire bender knows the release of chi, making both fire and lightning. An earth bender knows the grasp of chi, allowing him/her to directly control his/her element rather than manipulate or create it. And an air bender knows the push of chi, using this push he creates rushes of wind rather than actually controling oxygen or the atmosphere.. It's all based on Asian mythology even though asian mythology actually had 5 elements; earth, metal, fire, water, wood. And I doubt an Avatar could bend Sodium or Boron because he's mastered the elements when they refer to two different contexts.

I think that they can only bend just Fire or whatever their element might be. If earthbenders could bend iron in peoples blood then I am sure we would have seen this performed by Toph or Boomi. Controlling brain impulses and so on seems a little advanced for the type of show avatar is. I doubt it is possible but I could be wrong.

Fire Benders don't control lightning, they merely create it and release it. If they could actually control the electricity then wouldn't they have electronics and other such advancements? An Earthbenders can't bend iron of any kind. If they could bend Iron at all then the Drill, their ships, even weapons would become useless.

^^ agree on the Earthbending and metal part, and a small correction the lightning.

They don't create it they just pull the energies apart which then causes lightning. And if they had electricity's power they wouldn't know how to harness it to use it for electronics anyway. Ever take a look into your computer? There is quite a number of parts and such that are powered by electricity, but do you know how exactly those parts use electricity?

Though yes eventually they would and likely they would have devised some form of the "electronic"

Well, maybe not electronic, but they definatley would have found apllications for it similar to Tesla and Edisons' era of electricity.

I'd personally like to see what "sub-classes" Earth and Air have. Like Water gets Healing and Fire gets Lightning. I could see Air getting sound at its most advanced form and Earth getting the ability to manipulate gems of crystals.

Hey guys, just the weirdo Yoshiro! Anyway, if someone was to make a cyclone of fire against a massive wall of stone, do you think that they would beable to move the wall if it wasn't attached to the ground?

A fire tornado? I don't see how there would be any force behind it. It'd just be a wave of pure heat, no force behind it. If you were an air bender you might have the ability, but just fire, no.

And to those who keep smiting me, please Pm me why. I realize I have faults but just lowering my karma and then not even telling me why is a little useless. If it's something I can stop doing, I'll stop.

Just one more thing about bending iron: the metal earthbenders can't bend is forged metals, ie steel. That's why they can't bend the ships or weapons or forts. Theoretically, they could bend the iron ore, becuase that is still natural and from the earth. So far the show hasn't encountered any metal that hasn't been worked with by humans. I doubt that they have enough knowledge to even know that there is iron in the body, though if they did, they might be able to bend it.

ok something about the bending rules if you ahve fire powers then can't they make a fire tornado because in the episode where zuko is beat up the guys and protecting the kid he makes a mini fire torn ado thing around him so isn'y amke a fire tornado with out air beding some what possible.

yes you can create a fire 'tornado' since a tornado is just a swirling motion dependant being. Technically a whirlpool is a tornado, but then they define a whirlpool as part of water and a tornado more above the ground.

The reason he creates a tornado is because he controls the fire. It's like the episode "the deserter" when the entertainer moved the dragon is a circular curved motion. It's the same concept except with a slight variation of size of flames, and the number of flames.

I wikipedia'd this. type in waterbender in the search area and you'll see what I'm looking at.

Here's part of that article:
Other Waterbending

Waterbending at its highest skill contains the most powerful technique among all the Bending Arts. At close range, expert Waterbenders literally uses an opponents body against them by harnessing the ample amount of water within the human body to control their opponent like a puppet master[10].

So far, the only times a weapon has been used with Waterbending is when Avatar Kyoshi uses her fans to create a wave in "Avatar Day," and in "The Earth King" when Aang used his staff to freeze water. It has been stated that, given their almost "Samurai-like" cutting techniques, a katana or a cane sword would be the best weapon suited for a Waterbender. [11]

Waterbending is the opposing bending art to Firebending. Like all the bending arts, Waterbending is balanced out as to not be more or less powerful than the other arts. The series has repeatedly illustrated that it's the skill and prowess of the user that determines victory.
