Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

Umm could my character bend in a seperate style then the normal Fire benders. I figured I'd ask if it was possible cuz of Toph. Most earth benders use the Hung-Gar style, but Toph uses Southern Mantis Style i think it is, so would it be possible for my Fire Bender to use something other then Northern Xaiolin Style?

Of course, but their fighting style would be different. The bending fighting styles dont have to be consistent. Toph mostly taught herself to bend, and as a result her own created style of bending doesnt mirror regular earthbending, but rather Southern Mantis(props for remembering that, by the way), which in the show is merely coincidence.

Just realize that your character's fighting style will be altered; if he used Zui Quan(as my character mainly does, but not on purpose :D) then his fighting style would be erratic and focused on striking from awkward poses and catching an opponent off guard, rather than being totally agressive.

Hmm, thanks for that. Now a second question. Is there a style that treats both arms as seperate weapons and implements them both almost constantly. Ive noticed that most fire benders use one hand at a time, but I want my character to fight with both hands and fast. I want his style to focus on how fast he can move his hands.

Well, here's an idea.

Hu Quan, or Tiger Kung Fu, utilizes something called Iron Fist techniques. Iron Fist is training to harden the hand, resulting in blows that can crush rock. Most martial artists only train one hand this way, but maybe, for kicks, yours can have trained both hands to the extreme.

Training consists of extending the fingers(karate chop style) then slamming one's hand into a bowl of iron shavings heated over fire, and the like. People who do this crazy stuff end up with hands that can crush 10-20 bricks at once, with one punch. It hurts like hell, but these techniques work.

Tiger Fu itself utilizes this by delivering quick, deadly blows with enough force to shatter bones. I'm no martial arts expert, but I heard about it from my sensei, who's brother participates in Chinese martial arts tournaments or something like that.... whatever. Just thought you might like the idea.

Besides that, I really got nothing. Most martial arts use kicking or close-in, blocking type fighting. Maybe your character can adapt Tiger Fu to use two Iron Fist hands? Just an idea, I dont know if it fits what you're looking for or not.

AWESOME! What is this Zui Quan style you speak of it? Is it like the Drunken Monkey style or different? One of my character does the Drunken Monkey style, using real alchol for different reasons. Whether its to make a kamakazi attack or just light his foes aflame, he uses it awesomely! Anyway, like this discussion. I really don't know most of the fighting styles out there (Actuelly, I know very little) but these ideas are just awesome, if not fanatic.

Zui Quan is better known as Drunken Fist or Drunken Boxing. My character uses it while drunk, which is all the time.

Thanks though for the compliments.

EDIT: Its similar to drunken monkey, but am I correct in assuming that Drunk Monkey uses the monkey stance(low to the ground, using hands as well as feet for locomotion)?

Ohhhh.....

I might have gotten it wrong then. Weird.... Oh well. I'll correct that in future posts. Thanks! Keep up the good work on this thread guys. These are all interesting and make one think "Do I want to go traditional or do I want to try something else?" :)

Yeah, I love the alternative little-known styles. I take Shaolin Kung Fu, which means a lot of different styles, and my sensei knows some people who train in very odd things.... like one who trains in Water Fu, which simulates being in water during a fight, or something like that.

I've never heard of Drunken Monkey, but its easy to 'create' it, by mixing Drunken Boxing's movements with a Monkey Stance.... hmm. Interesting possibility.

I know, I have only seen it once when I went to sparring and I just thought, "OH GOD! DRUNKEN MONKEY!" The guy who fought against the one using the style got pwned. Unfortunately, the person was me.

Water Fu? Strange, yet interesting...

Anyway, getting off topic, my bad! I'll look for other styles and ask about them from my sensia and post them up here and all that.

I want my character to attack with both of his hands. Im making him a fire bender so pretty much as if both hands were a seperate dragon who have syncronized with eachother. I dont want them to mirror each other, but be in constant movement

By the way is this the style you were talking about, if so, I think its a style I want my guy to use.

Its similar, but this Tiger Style incorporates more kicks and doesnt have Iron Palm training. I checked; its a variation of Hung Gar but is much more fluid.

I found this video, a sort of lesson in Hu Quan. It slows it all down, but should give you the idea of what it looks like. Cheers.

Well, this style looks ok, by still it looks to be one hand dominate. Im wanting it to be both arms are like dragons working together for a single target.

Maybe Im seeing it wrong but this style appears to go mainly for one arm. Im wanting my guy to be fast with using both arms, moving as though two of the chinese dragons preying on a single foe.

The clip I gave wasnt they best example of what I wanted but the guy didnt seem to favor using one limb over another. Thats really what Im trying to emphasize with my guy. Both hands used weilding nothing but his own power, working in unity with each other.

Yes, I like to refer to dragons alot.
