Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

Butbutbutbut!

(Actually, I'm agreeing with you. -____-)

Earthbenders can so far bend: Earth, Sand, Rocks, Metal, Gemstones. Waterbenders can bend... water. (Ice is not confirmed yet). What else have they displayed an aptitude for bending? Spiritually speaking, Oil may come from the earth. But if Oilbending is so easy for earthbenders, or waterbenders, then what do they have to fear from Fire Nation Tanks?

Well, let's say it's a difficult task - it's even more difficult than metalbending. Well, are Waterbenders able to bend all forms of liquids? Acid? Liquified metals? If they were, they might have a chance of being able to bend oil; given that they don't (or that they havn't displayed any kind of aptitude for acid-bending), then I'm going to say it's unbendable.

Speaking of metal, did anyone notice that Toph needs to touch the Metal to bend it?

I'm going to quote myself on this one since I'm a bit too lazy to re-type it.

Where I am it is on now and Toph was trapped in a metal case. She kept hitting it in different point, trying to concentrate enough rock I suppose, and then she punched a huge dent in it. She created a huge hole and then later locked the two kidnappers into their own casing that they had made for her.

Actually, she has to touch it to be able to bend it. She can't bend it unless she comes in contact with the metal. She has to literally grab the metal and slam it together to get it to move.

Fire nation tanks don't even use oil, they use coal. That argument just fell flat. So this really means this entire thread is useless. Can earthbenders bend computers? Can Firebenders? They don't have computers, so it doesn't matter. I don't even know why we are discussing it, maybe we really are too bored if we actually care. No one used oil in this universe

Oh. Then let's stop. :D

I naturally assumed the tanks were running on Oil... guess I'm not a very steampunk sort of guy. : (

By the way, Earthbenders would be able to bend computers, being silicon and metal after all. I still wonder if Waterbending is just... water, and not various other liquids.

really it's too hard to say. Oil wasn't found until the 1900s if i remember my history. Since the whole world of avatar is more around the 1600s or earlier even i doubt they will ever encounter oil.

I would like to just say that oil has been seen in the series, remember when Sokka uses the oil from the oil lamps in avatar roku's temple to perform fake fire bending on the door, it does not work, but it does show they have oil.
