Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

In this thread you will discuss bending moves, and possibly forms that you have created. In addition, you may also discuss bending moves from the show that you created ages before anyone showcased them on the show.

Now, I will open with two things that I feel I created way before they ever showed them in the show.

The first technique is one that involves creating a platform of ice, and using it as a makeshift boat. When I first saw this on the show I almost did a double take because prior to its showing, I had Shio perform a similar thing in the Other Waters thread. Some might be thinking that similar isn't the same as the same, and I agree, but I will say this: I came up with the same technique that Katara used in The Serpent's Pass, and then changed it because I felt that Shio wasn't experienced enough to be able to pull off the true ice platform technique.

At first I felt like I was robbed, after all that was Shio's thing, but after a little contemplation I realized that it was clever enough that the creators used it, so I feel proud of that.

The second technique that came up with was a couter earthbending form for Jiao, my Galgori.

Basically, it involves dodging massive earthbending attacks like pillars and other similar attacks by treating them as a springboard or just ground and actually using them to give you an advantage.

Ty Lee used a very basic counter in The Drill when she used an earth pillar as a springboard and used advantageously by getting the upper ground. In addition, in The Day of Black Son: Part 2, Azula dodges an attack by Toph in a similar manner. This is what Jiao knows how to do, and how to do well. I have no way of proving that I thought this up ages before the show aired it. The only I have to back up my claim is my word, and the kind of Galgori that Jiao is, an earthbending centered one.

The next technique that I have in the works is an ice bomb. This move requires the user to form a hollow ball of ice with water in the center. They must then hurl it at an opponent and then evaporate the water. The idea goes that the pressure made by the expanding liquid will explode the ice and send ice-shrapnel at the opponent.

So those are my techniques.

Well I had some idea's too that we're showed on Avatar. =/

For one, blood bending. I had that Idea since Kitara fought with Pakku. It's basically used by using the water in the blood cells (which make up basically everything in your body), and bend the blood causing the muscles to respire or contract depending on the user's actions.

Another idea I had was something I called "High Pressure". This was basically an idea I had for a team attack between Aang and Kitara. Kitara summons an enormous amount of water in which Aang captures and imprisons in an air bubble or ball. Then he makes the bubble or ball smaller. Note that the bubble or ball gets smaller, and the water inside still has its same mass. So basically he gets it to as small as he can, then he releases it in one blast which would feel like doing a cherry bomb of the empire state building, into three feet deep water.

Violent much. >=3

Heh. I have my own claim to fame in this department. My very first character on the site, Taed Xoa Luinnar, was a blue-fire bender. And he was so before we ever even saw Azula, much less saw her bending blue flames. The catch is, Azula's flames are blue because they are very hot, and Taed's flames are blue because the island spirits changed his fire so that he would eventually fulfill his destiny. As a matter of fact Taed fought Azula near the beginning of the site story (though we didn't know her name at the time).

There are a couple techniques that my firebending Mothguaith characters have used, all derived directly from the meditative forms and steps of Daedagor, a fighting and meditation style that I have studied for several years now. In particular, the shadow-dance that Coer did against Akailen outside of the Fire Nation Capital was designed to mirror the root movements of the meditative step. Daedagor emphasizes the "motion of the shadow" and since Coer is the priest's son of the shadow spirit, I thought it would be very appropriate. The step is supposed to represent the freeing of a morchaint (living shadow) from the ground, and it empowers and balances the dancer. Likewise, Coer's shadow-dance was designed to build up to a powerful fire attack.

I also, like a lot of other people, thought of blood bending before there was a name for it. But i thought instead of controlling people, you could freeze their body from the inside, which would eventually lead to their death. I guess that is an option if you dont want to have to control them. =)

I also was thinking of creating a helicopter type aircraft using bending to turn the ice or earth propellers to keep it in the air... still in the process of figuring that one out. =)

I believe that way in the beginning, I would know as I have been a fan of Avatar since its first showing, that the idea of bloodbending was already in the creators heads. On the nick website, they used to have a page that briefly described the bending disciplines and under waterbending they stated that it had the most powerful bending move that gave a waterbender the power to control people. And Cao Ren, it's Katara not Kitara, even though they often pronounce it as such.

@ Coer, I remember the blue firebending when I read Taed's profile. I must say that it is pretty cool that you thought something like that up.

There is this other firebending stance that I have been working on. I call the flaming flamenco lol. The only problem with the stance is that it leaves the user on one foot, and as we all know that is a serious problem in a fight.

Well one of my fascinations with lightning bending was imitating an avatar version of what a "chidori" (ok a bit narutardish i know -_-) would look like. Yeah I just have a thing for the chidori, it's flashy and it's a melee move, and you are moving extremely fast, and it's destructive. I almost went fire-bender solely for that.

Another thing if you would like to lightning bend or metal bend, there is the capability of magnetism. Something I plan to do in the later later future *not a typo xD*. Lol, I think as a sub-magneto I'll get my chance with Ozai. >=D or at least fair very well against Azula. 8D!

I never actually thought of using magnetism in Earthbending, but I do see some problem with it. When Toph Metalbends, she "sees" the fine bits of earth in the metal and since there's a lot, apparently, she's able to "bend" the metal. Earthbenders wouldn't be able to use magnetism, but Firebenders might, considering that magnetism is attraction between differently charged molecules. I suppose a Firebender could use lightning on an extremely small scale, but the skill might only be available to someone with extreme control over lightning. In my experience in watching the show, creating or even redirecting lightning seems to be something that only extremely skilled Firebenders can use on a larger scale. I'd be interested to see how this would develop, though.

As for me, I think that I'm expanding creative uses of Earthbending with Haru considering the training he underwent before arriving in Gaoling (if you'd like to see for yourself, check out the "Through the Earth Kingdom" thread). He's more practiced in the art of softening the earth to avoid damage (to himself or anything else), and he even put this skill to use in Earth Rumble VII.

I think this is a wonderful discussion even though i probably have nothing interesting to say. None of my characters have been really Rp'ed using their bending, but soon they will be. As of right now i have my waterbender Shuai Au-Yong, who is really basic in waterbending as in fighting. But she is an intermediate healer. Really i find myself using her for basic waterbending so far seeing that she hasn't even gotten five years of training. But she will in time grow and learn more. I've been trying to think of cool moves that she could do, but seeing how basic she is, she will need a lot of Rp time to improve. *But i still love her*

My newly created character Michiko Zoul, i kind of used the idea of this thread to create her bending style. So thank you Shio for starting up this thread =D And of course to everyone else who added in their ideas. Michiko you see is a Firebender, but she never received training and always kept it a secret from her family. So for thirteen years she taught herself how to Firebend. I purposely wanted her to be born on Ember Island for a reason, that way she could use the idea of wind and water in her bending style.

Since she had no idea what forms Firebenders used she came up with her own forms, using movements like Waterbenders, and having to learn the strength of fire by imitating the force of wind. By no means does she copy the movements and forms of Waterbenders or Airbenders because one, she never met a Waterbender or Airbender, and two the Airbenders are gone *besides Aang of course* In my head she is moving from basic level to beginner intermediate, but i still fail on thinking of cool moves that she could do. If anyone has suggestions i would greatly enjoy looking at them.

But so far i guess that's it. My next character is Lien Thian, but she is a Kyoshi Warrior, so she has no bending style or bending at all xD

Ooh, I'm glad we get to have such a fun thread. I like inventing new and creative uses of bending, though admittedly I've only experimented with Earthbending variants. So, here's my three things:

The first one is somewhat simple; the Rock Choker. It was based off the Dai Lee's 'rock gloves.' It would be used to clamp around the enemy's throat, choking the enemy into submission, or even death. It would be a powerful tool for interrogations, and, since rock is placed on the enemy, it would also allow the Earthbender to throw the person around by the throat, which, I believe, would seriously hurt.

Number two; The Rock Chain. Using Earthbending, it would be simple to make chain links and to join them into a flexible chain. Condensing would make the earth very durable, no matter what kind of earth is used, and since earthbending is used, weight is not an issue. Addition of a simple mechanism, or even a weight on the end of the chain can make it an effective weapon, or even a grappling hook.

The third, and most sadistic of them all; the... Uh... Un-Named Evicerating Sharp Stone. Using any small rock (a milimeter in diameter would be preferable) the Earthbender would 'shoot' the rock into his enemy at high speeds, actually piercing the enemy and leaving the stone in his body. Than, using moves not unlike Yamcha's Spirit Ball attack in DBZ, the Earthbender would shoot the pebble back and forth through their enemy's organs, turning their insides into a pinball machine. The tiny sharp stone would do insurmountable damage against which there is no defence. My character would never use this attack, but it still 'sounds' cool.

I made an entire Firebending Style a while back, based on the control and Retraction of heat, it was a long time ago that I did this, and it's still stuck in my head, it's basically a different form of Fire bending that All Firebenders in my mind could probably do if trained too.

I decided to write fully on my odd form of Firebending, tell me what you think.

This style is the style Hanabi uses instead of normal Firebending, it has a lot less techniques and most of the techniques are a lot more cumbersome to use, this form is more centered on heat and less on convection then normal Firebending, Hanabi has Mastered the High end techniques and is learning the vary corners of the master part of the Style.

Hanabi because of this style cannot use any normal Firebending techniques, she could probably light a candle like normal, but the effort to build fire in they way would tire her.

Hanabi has a few variations on any technique she learns, but these are the basic originals, the teachings and foundations. The most powerful moves of the style.
—-

The scroll is an ornate scroll with no apparent crest.

Inside of it are the teachings of how to perform a strange style of Firebending.

Firebending: The Quivering Flame.

This unique Firebending Style is based entirely on the gathering of heat from anything that its user can project there chi into.

It is a bizarre style that is slower then normal Firebending and often leaves the user in a state of vulnerability which is why it is not widely practiced, because many see its weakness as far greater then its advantage, here are the bases of the technique.

Style Essential Technique: Gathering.

Gathering is the most important part of this style to learn, the user focuses inwards drawing on there breath to create the normal heat, and then they pull deeper into the vary heat of there own body moving the heat from there body into the place they are going to project the flame from.

All of the heat gathered is held at the center of the bender where it is maintained in the gut and held by there breath so the heat doesn’t spread away as it normally would if not expended.

This is why it is called the Quivering Flame, because often times the bender will throw them self into a state of hypothermia.

Despite the users current state of hypothermia they are not any more vulnerable then normal to sudden temperature shock from heat mainly because they are pulling all heat in and on and sometimes around themselves inwards.

The user can also extend his Chi pulling the heat from around himself in his environment to increase the power of there flame, hotter environments are best for this as there is more heat to pull.

Gathering has a strange effect, anyone who where to touch the Firebender would feel that they where as cold as if they had just got out of a freezing pool, also they have a hint as to the Firebenders gathering of heat as the temperature of the environment will drop several degree’s if they are indoors or the bender is a total master of the style.

On another note, without this form of gathering all of the other techniques in this style are a lot harder or impossible to execute.

The gathering technique can be used to block tiny fire attacks with the user’s hands by absorbing the heat from the enemy’s fire, in effect not only dissolving there flame, but making the heat from it your own.

Basic Style Technique: Heated Hands.

The next part of the style is pushing the gathered heat into the user’s hands and if they desire there feet, the two easiest places in the body to expel fire from, the effect will be that there hands will become burning hot like fire allowing for a multitude of uses in combat and other areas. The user can cause burns without conjuring a flame by grabbing an opponent.

The advantage and disadvantage of this is equal, on the advantageous side the opponent won’t see a flame so they probably won’t be prepared for the user’s initial attack and will probably get a nasty burn that they will remember for a while.

The Primary Way of Defense is heating of the hands and the equalization in temperature toward the high end would allow them to deflect most basic Firebender attacks such as a cone or a basic ball.
Be warned that this doesn’t always work for the best as some Firebending gets far hotter then the heating hands normally handles, you need to decide your defense wisely as to much heat in the hands of someone new to the style could cause just as bad burns as if the flame hit in the first place.

The Second Way of Defense is that the uses can use this in tandem with there gathering to absorb Firebending attacks that are larger and hotter then normal gathering would allow on its own, mainly because the user gathers the heat and rises there own temperature on there hands when they block allowing them to absorb the extra heat instead of being overwhelmed.
This way requires a lot more skill and requires the user expend there own chi to block, but it is a far more sturdy defense to those whom have mastered it.

The disadvantage of this technique is that the heat gathered in the hand is a lot harder to expel making it so they cannot throw a flame while using this technique limiting them to extreme close quarters combat.
A single techneque, the pounding line can be used to increase and implement a range attack with the Heated Hands.

In navigation such as climbing and grabbing it is probably the best technique; the massive heat from the hands incinerates most friction reducing layers they grab, such as moss or water allowing them a solid grip on even the wettest and mossiest of stones.

Basic Style Technique: The Large Ball.

The large ball is different then the Heated Hands as the user takes the gathered heat and slowly convexes it into a large ball of flame that takes a bit longer to gather.

The difference however is a stronger flame that is almost impossible to be stopped in flight, it takes twice as long and a lot more energy to gather then a normal fireball, but its power is three times greater then a normal fireball.

Some logic says “Wouldn’t the three faster fireballs be better?” and in a lot of cases that is a yes, but this technique is a lot stronger then normal for the purpose of battering through lesser defenses, a whip of water from a Waterbender can dispel a lot of flame, but when gathered at this magnitude only an actual shielding technique can block this ball of fire.

Basic Style Technique: Desert Survival.

Deserts are places of great heat and while advantageous in a single battle can hinder greatly one ones level of water, the heat causes the water in the body to come out as perspiration, this technique was designed to make Desert Survival easier.

It is in basic the same technique as the gathering except the Firebender expels the heat he gathers from his body outward into the environment cooling the temperature of his body to a normalized level making the hottest of deserts or lava lands no longer impossible to survive in.

The key here is to gather heat while not tapping your breath, tapping your breath will build up your own heat and should be reserved for combat, as using your breath may cause you to overheat for such a light technique.

To practice without endangering yourself you should inhale a breath of air, focus on it and pull the heat from the air, then exhale your cooled breath, don’t pull to much heat or you risk cooling your lungs to a dangerous level and could cause asphyxiation.

This technique is not a combat technique, if someone tried to cool air to the point there breath would effect another person they would cool the center of themselves effectively stopping there own heart.

The actual technique is a reverse of the exercise; you inhale a breath, put your heat into your lungs then exhale the heat from your body cooling yourself.

On another note, in theory you could use this to breath fire, but unless your control is at a master level then you will probably burn out your own lungs before even spitting out anything threatening.

Moderate Level Technique: External Gathering.

The user must again have mastered the basic gathering to use External Gathering.

External Gathering is a technique where the user gathers the heat from the air around them at a faster rate without tapping into there own body’s reserves.

This technique allows for the same sort of techniques as the normal gathering, but to get enough heat usually takes twice as long, as a Firebenders internal reserves are there strongest place to pull heat from.

It is advisable to not use this unless you have time to gather, it takes a lot of focus and is harder to do, the only area a Firebender could probably use this in close combat would be near extreme heat.

If the user sees a large flame coming towards them and they have enough Chi, they can absorb the heat from the projected object, how much they can pull depends entirely on how much chi they have.

In estimation a person who has just learned this technique and is a moderately good Firebender could throw ‘The Large Ball’ in twice the normal time stated in that technique, while a master of the style could probably not have there time impacted.

Moderate Level Technique: Pounding Line.

The user gathers vary slowly over a huge amount of time into a single hand heat tell there hand itself is red and beginning to receive burns from the heat gathered inside of it and then they root them self and release the flame forward feeding it energy and not letting it all out at once.

The result is a massive stream of fire about three feet in diameter that will shoot and a slightly slower then normal pace towards there target. The advantage is that the beam can breach almost any bender made defense risible, but its slow gathering speed combined with its slow projection and the user being forced to keep his feet rooted when he moves to fire.

This isn't always a disadvantage, having that much heat gathered in your hand if you grab a person could leave devastating burns.

The user takes careful aim and they release the heat he gathered taking about a second for the flame to suddenly pound from his hand towards its intended target, the power of the flame means its not only strong, but it will be moving through the air fast as well.

This technique is dangerous because if the Firebender looses rooting when the attack finishes leaving there hand the attacks pressure will throw the Firebender onto there back and there remaining energy if enough is left could explode in there palm giving them a massive burn and leaving there entire arm paralyzed for a season, or if enough heat is gathered, totally incinerate the forearm and hand.

The time taken to gather for a person who has just reached the skill to use this technique would be about 40 seconds, while a true master of the style could muster this attack in 10 seconds, the time taken to actually project the gathered heat from the hand into the line itself takes about 4 seconds, a master could probably get the line thrown in 1 second.

High Level Technique: The Rapid Fire.

The Firebender must have gathered a huge amount of energy and have it all gathered into there shoulders, gathering the heat should take 10 seconds for anyone able to do this technique, and 10 more seconds to relocate the flame to there shoulders, the time of fireing lasts 20 seconds total.

They must take rather careful aim as the technique is a speedy and reckless one, once they are sure of there aim they project the heat gathered in there shoulders down there arm in bursts about a third the size of a normal fireball, the result is that they will shoot from each hand a large number of small weaker fireballs in the direction they aimed at a really high speed.

The way it works and the reason it is gathered in the shoulders is because pulling the flame down the arm lengthens each flame into a small line allowing it to cut through the air faster at the cost of power.

This technique has the disadvantage, the constant flowing of the fire takes massive amounts of concentration, and the projection of the technique is bright and flashy and the repeated flashing of each fireball emerging makes keeping a good aim rather hard.

The other disadvantage is the quickly summoned weak flames will breach on any barrier doing vary little or no damage at all.

High Level Technique: The Rapid Flash.

This attack is made from The Rapid Fire, the original idea was to gather more and more energy in the shoulders to provide extra power to the original attack, but the body can't keep that many flames focused and the result is a technique in itself.

The Rapid Flash is made when more energy is gathered then can be channeled by The Rapid Fire, the result is that when the flame leaves the hand they explode on contact with the air in many blindingly bright flashes.

The use of this technique should be obvious, the opponent is focused and watching every move you make to dodge and then you use the Rapid Flash to force his attention away or possibly blind him for a few seconds.

This techneque of corse has its best effect at night.

High Level Technique: The Quivering Flame.

The Firebender has mastered gathering to a degree that they can pull the heat from an entire room or a 10 foot radius around themselves outdoors with faster speed at the expenditure of extra Chi.

The effect is that for twice the normal cost, the Firebender can gather any of there techniques in half the time needed, that or if the normal time is spent; gather enough energy to make the attack with twice the normal amount of power it normally packs.

On the other hand you can use this form of gathering with the basic and the breath and twice the amount of time needed to gather a fearsome technique that is four times stronger then its basic counterpart.

On another note, when used it is also a good way to intimidate an opponent, as they probably won’t know why the room is getting cold, you can use this to try and gain a mental advantage.

Master Technique: The Frozen Flame Palm.

For an extreme amount of Chi in there attempt the Firebender will strike an opponent hard in the chest and execute the gathering technique on them.

The user needs a lot more Chi to do this as they have to breach an opponents Chi to use this technique, making the worst people to use this on, the people with the most Chi.

The Gathering Technique is executed by a sudden palm thrust into the opponent, its effects vary, but the theory is simple, to gather heat from inside the opponents body.

The first palm thrust generally sends a fierce chill down the opponent as there surface warmth is pulled into the users palm; this causes chills and in less focused warriors can cause severe trembling.

The second time the user strikes his palm his opponents get some of there center warmth stolen, this is a larger amount of heat causing the opponent to enter the first stages of Hypothermia, if used on people who are not healthy any state of Hypothermia can end in death if not treated.

Most master’s don’t have enough energy to execute the palm a third time on an enemy, but the originator of the style had that much energy, when the third strike of the palm hits, the opponents core warmth will get pulled on, chilling them to the bone, putting them on the latter end of Hypothermia, only the healthiest, luckiest and most determined can survive after this strike, but if it lands, chances are the battle is over.

No one has ever managed to make a fourth strike.

In battle this technique has its severe advantage, but a few key weakness' as well.

If the battle carries on for more then 20 minutes then an opponent that had only been hit with the first palm will no longer be so chilled that they are hindered.

If the second palm hits however they will need to take action to start a recovery and they won't be able to recover during the battle and any hindering effects of the palms will be close to unshakable.

The only way known to combat this is a Firebender rising there own core temperature to counter the cold, sense self warming is a basic technique of Firebending it makes this move a rather bad choice against another Firebender.

Master Technique: Belly of the Inferno.

This technique is a dangerous one where the user gathers every ounce of heat they have available to them, in themselves, the environment and there breath and press it into there outer skin.

The users skin will turn read and all moisture on there skin will be instantly evaporated, as the energy continues to gather the heat will get higher and high and the Firebender will catch in a mighty blaze, there chi and raw heat as the fires food, the fire will continue to grow the more energy its fed until the Firebender is as hot as a blazing inferno making approaching them the same as approaching a bonfire.

This techniques main flaw is the user is pulling so much to keep themselves from being burned physically as fuel that they throw them self into a state of Hypothermia on the inside, the flames of that heat will only last so long, and while gathered all fire techniques one try’s to use take only half the time to gather energy for.

It’s an Ironic technique, the Firebender appears to be burning in a great inferno, but in truth they are actually freezing to death.

The final part of this technique, the user when the bonfire can get no hotter pulls all of the fire suddenly into themselves, there body being consumed as fuel and there entire body is incinerated and they explode in a massive blast that can disintegrate anything within 10 feet of the Firebender, also anything within 10 feet of that will get terrible third degree burns.

Notes on the Style

This style while useful in combat was originated as a form of all environment survival for the most hostile of environments, with warmth stealing techniques that where originally made for use on animals to prevent the cold from getting to the user.

Those who read this scroll and practice its teachings should never forget that this should not be misused, and the later end techniques should only be used to save your life.

The Final Technique should only be used when dieing to protect something. Or if you wish to die.

First allow me to applaud Hanabi for taking the time to type out all of those techniques. I must say you worked very hard on that and I don't think I would have had the patience to do that. Honestly I would have given up after the first three moves =D So hooray for you =D

I'm might also add that my character Michiko, has already used one of those moves, without me even knowing you posted it here. In my Rp I had her use Heated Hands on Karanbir's character Yoshinori, since well she doesn't really like men. But when I was reading down the list and I saw that and I became really excited, like 'Oh yeah I used that!'

I just had to get that off of my chest.... and yes I know I'm corny =D

I was just thinking a bit about airbending and i came up with these possible moves:

1. Breathless - The airbender bends the air out of the opponents lungs, causing them to loose their breath and possibly pass out from lack of air. I was also thinking that this could be used somewhat like blood bending because every red blood cell has air in it and the lungs are full of air as well.

2. Dousing the Flame - This is one i always wondered about, if fire needs air to keep lit, couldnt an airbender pull all the air away from a firebender to make it so they cant bend? If so this would render them useless.

Bleh, got bored waiting for someone to approve my profile so I figured I'd look around the OOC boards. Unfortunately, I can't really put in bending ideas that my charater uses... because he's a non-bender but there is one thing that I thought I'd point out regarding blood bending.

When I "thought of" blood bending, I never thought that the blood bender would use it to "control" a person's body. I mean, I can understand how it can technicaly work... but it seems like too much work for too little results. Yes you have control over the enemy, but it's obvious to anyone who sees that the person is being controlled, or at least is acting strangely, and the bender isn't capable of doing anything intricate with them. Basic arm and leg motions is really all they can do. So really what advantage do you gain from "controlling" your opponent?

I always thought that blood benders would simply rip all the blood out of their opponents [insta-kill], and than use the blood to use water bending skills on other opponents. Similar to the scene in Xmen, where Magneto rips out the iron from the guard's body, and then uses it to escape the prison.

In my mind anyways, ripping blood out of your opponent, and then kicking butt with the blood would be much more "cool" and "hardcore" than just making someone dance under your control.

~~~
Another random note/thing I never thought of... I know this is supposed to be about things that you did think of before they were shown on the anime but hey. Surprisingly, I never thought that fire-benders could later bend lightening... because I don't see how they're related >.>... Firebenders create fire from rage or some sort of other emotional drive. But lightening is created by making an imbalance of chi. "Chi" is used or at least mentioned for all the bending arts... so why is it that firebenders are the only ones that can use it? It's not like there's actually a direct relationship between fire and lightening >.>... But hey, its definately a cool addition that there's lightening bending, I just totally didn't see it coming -__-.
~~~

Fine fine, some ideas of my own. For earth/metal benders, something I thought of was weapon making. Really experienced earth/metal benders can not only move earth, but mold them into different shapes. I'm sure that if there was a rock with mixed minerals, the earth bender could even seperate them. As such, refining normal rock and drawing pure iron or copper out of it would be easy. When a sword is made, the makers melt the metal so it can be molded, but a metal bender can do that without needing to go through the tedious process of melting it, than smithing, than sharpening. Instead, they find a large source of iron in the ground, and bring it out as a premade weapon.

So no more of this kicking rocks at people, get a weapon master earth bender and he/she can be totally reckless, because worse comes to worse, they make another weapon. XD

~~~
A water bender technique that I thought of is another insta-kill type thing. If it's raining, the water bender, no actual bending needed, just needs to freeze the rain as it comes down and the opponent is pretty much dead unless they're an earthbender.
Bleh this turned into a rant -__-
We all know that water benders can move water through the air and we now they can fling ice disks through the air and control were it goes with bending almost like a remote control airplane. I thought of standing on an ice disk and haveing the ice cover your feet like a snow board thing so you dont fall off than useing that to fly by makeing the ice go in the air. I mean it would also work if you made a big bubble of water, water is inside it, and some one is swimming in it and you lift them while they are inside the bubble wouldnt that work to make people fly. the ice disk one mainly dont really care about the bubble one.
Wouldn't that work with Earth Bending too? Actually, it should, since in the episode "Imprisoned" they lift all the Fire Benders off the boat and drop them into the sea with the earth. So they could logically do that for themselves >.>...
On a completely different note, Benders are supposed to be able to manipulate their own respective elements right? But especially between Fire Benders and Earth Benders, why can't they manipulate their opponents oncoming attacks? I mean, Earth Benders make Earth shields to protect themselves from enemy attacks; but wasn't there even an exercise that Toph had Aang do which involved "stopping a rock"? Why doesn't Toph just stand there and let the rocks smash her with no effect?
Or between Zuko and Azula, instead of dodging the oncoming attack, manipulate their fire and throw it back? Or is that more of a "waterbending" skill? Because they do that a lot in Water Bender fights >.>.
But wait [again], Iroh can redirect lightening >.>... so wouldn't it be possible to also redirect fire? Hmmm... although that is A LOT of "cross bending" involved there >.>
theres a diffrence between water and fire
water is fluid and will go any where you direct it, it doesnt care
fire is more forceful and wants to consume everything inits path
[glow=blue,2,900]Taed edit: Please be sure in the future to follow the 300-character minimum requirement for OOC posts. I address this in my actual post on Sep 14, so I hope not to see short posts after that. :)[/glow]
Yes yes, but the whole idea behind bending is that you can manipulate your element. Even the Fire Benders can use their fire almost as elaborately as Water Benders. So if a Water Bender can take an opponent's oncoming attack, and throw it back, why can't a Fire Bender do the same?
It seems even more possible since like I said, Iroh can redirect lightening >.>. Oh well, I redirecting is supposed to be a Water Bending "thing" anyways so I'll just not think about it. I just think that if Iroh can make a technique to redirect lightening, it should be possible with the other elements to >.>.
Meh.
lightning is a physical thing and there is no way to redirect fire its to out of control it can only be extinguished. Now i am sure an airbender could redirect a fire attack if done just the right way
Err... how is lightening a physical thing? Lightening and fire are both non-physical things; they're more forms of energy >.>... if anything, fire is more "physical" than lightening is -__-.
But anyways, I'm assuming it CAN be done, but redirecting is more of a Water Bending thing.
I'm just here to reply to the comment about "Ripping out all the oppoents blood." [ZOMG Insta-kill ^_^ !!!1!!11] Yes we get it, it's the over the top anime style of people dying and there being no reprecussions for your actions. Murdering people and destroying cities with no regard to collateral damage. The reason Blood Bending doesn't do that is because Brian and Mike have this thing called subtlety. They understand that it's more interesting and entertaining to have a unique technique that can do more than just kill hordes of people. It's similar to the asinine idea of airbending someone's air out of their lungs. The reason things like that don't happen in Avatar is because of the spiritual aspect to bending, you know? I always have to shake my head at people who keep coming up with these 'hypothetical' mass murdering techniques with bending. I guess the simple explanation to all this is,
Avatar is -not- anime. It may look like it but there are many differences.
1. Good writing.
2. Multifaceted and believable characters.
3. Creativity.
Just to name a few.
I guess this whole thing is just an extended call out to to Shin and convince him/her to drop the anime mindset.
The title is bending creativity.
That being said. Suigetsu uses SPIT BENDING, yes that's right. He freezes his spit into tiny icicles that do little-to know damage to his opponent.
It's simple, brilliant, and wonderfully 3rd grade.
Applause to Suigetsu who doesn't let his love of anime get in the way of being incredible.
