Plot Update 10 March 2021

A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

Kyoshi Island is in the Earth Kingdom, but all the people there where blue water tribe-esque clothes. How does that make any sence at all?

Yeah that was somehting that got me confused as well when I first saw the show. Because later on you find out that it is part of the Earth Kingdom and you like 'what but they wear blue' still I do not think that the color really maters. After all it might just be that they dress like that because they were influenced by the Water Tribes. But who knows.

It's not always necessary to symbolise tribes with colour. We should follow only there history. If you ask me I will say characters usually never change clothes so I don't think it's very important except in some event where they got to disguise.

Either that, or after Kyoshi seperated Kyoshi Island from the Earth Kingdom, they didn't want to align themselves with the nation that the people that the tyrant who tried to take over the world was from. Maybe they wanted to seperate themselves somehow, and felt more in tune with the water than the Earth because of what happened, and because they were living on an island...

Just a thought.

I think clothes may really matter, because ,even though citizens wear blue, The warriors wear green correct? Maybe the colors seperate the warriors and civillians, or maybe influences from wtaer, like said in above posts.

spirit300 (I suggest you change your name into your character's name first, and you run your posts through a spell checker or something like that because I barely understand what you write) Avatar Kyoshi wasn't an airbender since she's wearing green clothes, she's born in Kyoshi Island when it was still connected to the main land and since she's better in Earthbending (methinks). The fact that she uses fans to fight doesn't make her an airbender since the fans are the weapons for female Earthbenders (like the hammers are for male Earthbenders). Maybe an Earthbender (male or female) uses other kinds of weapons (for example, my character Joychi uses a poleweapon, kinda double Guan Dao-like Bisento, these names coming from AvatarSpirit) but she's an Earthbender, I assure you... Maybe they wear blue clothes because they split from the mainland to live in the middle of the sea so they adapted to their new conditions...the warriors keeping the Earth Kingdom colors.

First of all, I will apologize for my atrocious grammar. Secondly, I was under the impression of avatar Kyoshi being an air bender because in the episode where Aang is being persecuted for killing the conquerer person, Aang uses the fans to airbend. And fans produce a soft wind which could be considered a way to enhance a person's airbending strength. I thought Kyoshi was the most recent airbender, not the avatar before Hiroku(sp?)

Actually, the easiest way to figure out she isn't an airbender is that she lacks the arrows, which were given to all masters of that nation (which is why Aang has them, why Giatso [sp?] had them, etc).

Though, according to the Southern Air Temple episode, Kyoshi was NOT the Avatar before Roku. It was an earthbender wielding a broadsword. There's a very brief glimpse of another Avatar statue earlier in the cycle wielding the fans and dressed like Kyoshi, but for whatever reason; it was a man. Go Nick >.> . . .

Though, Kyoshi is most certainly an Earthbender. Watch the episode "The Avatar State" sometime, and when Roku is explaining it to Aang, it shows Kyoshi for the Earth element (lifting the two huge statues).

Is the fact that Kyoshi is an EARTHBENDER (not Airbender, Makoto) really the topic ? I mean the real problem is the Kyoshi villagers' clothes. Why Blue instead of Green ? Isn't my theory right ? They split from the mainland so they changed their clothes to adapt to their natural and new condition...and the warriors wear green clothes because of the honor of the Earth Kingdom and yellow for the bravery that passes through their body, bravery coming from Kyoshi's heart (Kyoshi's blood, Kyoshi's mind, Kyoshi's heritage...).

(I meant to say Earthbender, but when I post in the mornings I'm worse than potheads when it comes to continuity XD)

I think the chances of their clothes being blue would also have to do with Kyoshi saying that one Earth king was a horrible tyrant. Maybe they chose blue as a sort of sign of rebellion or an act to distance themselves from his empire?

(so yeah, pretty much what Karena said earlier >.>)

Don't really know, but your theory holds it's own too . . . *shrug*

And I was only on that note because I wanted Spirit to drop the 'she was an airbender' thing XD

Yes, it was me who started the airbender talk, so don't get mad at Makoto.

Anywho, the fact that the people on kyoshi island have blue clothes could have been an accident by the makers. Or it's possible that they may have some little spin-off of some sort after Aang dies, and the next waterbending avatar will be from Kyoshi. Who really knows but the creators? It is also possible that since they are on and island they do not possess the correct dyes to make their clothes green, only blue. And its possible that that will have some effect on the series. Or maybe the people of Kyoshi are immigrants from the Water Tribes and they were taken over by the Earth Kingdom until Kyoshi created Kyoshi Island. My thoughts expressed here could be considered similar to those above, in my opinion, so don't say, "That's what I've been trying to say this whole time, but you're so stupid, Xia-di, that you didn't realize it!"
