A fireball stricks the side of the pass causing a landslide. Toph earthbends to save Sokka.

Also, from the Serpent's Pass:
Toph is drowning.
Toph: Help, I can't swim!
Sokka: Hold on Toph! I'm coming! (Suki dives into the water first)
