Doesn't Ba Sing Se remind you of china if you've been there?
The Earth King's Palace = Forbidden City
Ba Sing Se's Big Wall = Great Wall of China
Isn't it a little familiar?

Huh. Never thought of it that way. When you put it into words, it does make sense. The wall of Ba Sing Se is the Great Wall of China. Thanks, Toru, you've given me something to think on. *goes to ponder new information* Well...... Then.......

The show has alot of asian influences. It is a manga ifnluenced animie and everything else, but there are some (not many though) western influences. But i never would of thought of the forbidden city thing, but I kind of saw the Great Wall of China thing though. You have good eyes.

This may be kind of obvious, but the airbenders in the show are like real monks in China. They live in the mountains for one example, and they also don't eat any meat. If there is anything else please say so. Peace out : )

Just to say something weird about the show, cause I feel like it, that's why.... Has anyone noticed that the gold clasp on Katara's mother's necklace has been slowly dissapearing into oblivion lately. *nods wisely* See? I can see things, too!!!

Heck, I didn't even notice a goldclasp on Katara's Mother's Necklace at all! Did you notice that every day Katara gets better at waterbending and doesn't practice that much? Episode something... she can't make a huge wave... Episode lake laogai...
Jet: Katara? I think I can help
Katara blushes and makes two huge waves at the lift of her two arms and just like OWNS him.
Also
Airbenders can cut things with air... Why can't airbenders cut everybody to pieces? In the avatar world it is against monk principles to use airbending to cut anything that is living or used to live.

I agree. On the episode "Secret of the Fire Nation" near the very end there is a scene where Aang is talking with Katara and the Ba Sing Se wall is in the background. When I first watched that episode I immediately thought that it was the Great Wall of China. But that makes perfect since because the show is based on Ancient Chinese Martial Arts.

I've been thinking about the avatar, and it kind of reminds me of the Dali Lama(don't know how to spell this). 'Cause the Dali Lama is rereincarnation of other people.
Also to comment on Suyami's post, Katara's golden clasp does look bluer and bluer all the time. And to comment on Toru's and Chiba Ryou's posts on Katara's bending it does seem she is really good at waterbending over night, but Pakku said she mastered it when she was in the North Pole so it is possible that she could practice bending on the days we don't know about.

In response to Nanami: I think their tattoos are there and are arrows because they are a sort of 'religious' thing, and the arrows fit perfectly to match with the art of airbending.hat I don't get is how they get the tattos, and how they can be down the length of their body. Of course, they might have just been inherant, and they are all born with them.
Side note: I just remembered that air bison have the tattoos, only theirs are natural. Maybe the air nomads got the idea from them, and that would bring out the possibility that—that maybe air bison taught them airbending? Crazy, i know, but it might be true.

I was reading this book for school, The Art of Happiness. The book is about the Dalai Lama (I can spell it now). Anyway, the book says his real name is Tenzin Gyatso. How cool is that. When I read that I was like so surprized. So we know know that Monk Gyatso is influenced by the Dalai Lama, but they are also similar by their kindness. Peace out.

Sorry, but the idscussion about the characters and their names (actually everything that has to do with the characters and not with the topic) does not belong here. I think there's even a thread for this in the Characters Board already.
Personally, I think the city is like China since the show is asian inspired, but I think it also looks like the city of Troy, in Greece. The story also mimicks Troy's: they said it was impenetrable, they had good archers (Earthbenders in Avatar), they were both besieged more than once and withstood during many yers until something special happened, and they both got destroyed y the enemy from the inside (even though Ba Sing Se isn't really destroyed but "DOOMED"). I think these two great city are really great but as they think they're the most powerful, someone finds a way so the sheeps can invite wolves in the sheepfold for diner (I lose a lot with translation...), I mean someone finds a way to penetrate the city stealthily, without being discovered (the horse for Troy, the Kyoshi Warriors for Ba Sing Se). And then, te city falls from high, very high, and no one is here to see it smacking on the ground but the enemies (SPLASH !!!).
