Kay as said above by other I am by no means in any place to judge yet I wish I could give my opinions about this to the whole board.
Well to begin with every time we watch a movie or film which is based on a book is not by no means the book, is what we people call in the "film" business: "adaptations", in other words every film you see is basically an adaptation of the script to image or in the case of books from books to image so its virtually impossible to get all the details of a book into a film, I mean what better example than "Perfume" the book describes the smells (admirable feet from the author yet ain't the point getting off track here sorry.) and the movie is just an adaptation from the book.
By the gods if Homer saw "Troy" he would have died for so much lack of precision with the book yet read the book "The Iliad" and you will see why the adaptation of the movie.
Now on to "Avatar", I am by no means a big fan of cartoon adaptations to film, in fact they somehow break illusions (ERAGON...not anime but what an excellent way to mess a good book) like many people have pointed the whole casting process will be hard as hell, the acting classes hard as hell, the scenery (unless they go CGI here) hard as hell, get the script right hard as hell and not to mention that probably to get Aang's character right they will be aiming for some kind of rising star that will be end to be a total prick or just some sort of "Aang ate the actor." (Star Wars and Harry Potter a few examples of such phenomenon.) So what type of movie do we have to make one "hard" as hell.
Now considering is Paramount behind the whole production and not 20th Century Fox (Thank God!) we might have something good behind it yet to get the whole series into it well, I wouldn't be surprise if he has to cut some parts of the story such as the one's with the pirates or in fact he would change how somethings are obtained, such as the whole part where Katara steals the scroll to learn waterbending, like I said is a film adaptation so the director kind of has the freedom to change something even thought they would probably suck to most of us fans.....
To the director, well he ain't my favorite and I really expected this movie to be a kind of like a work made by many directors I mean, not all the episodes where directed by the same guy (even cartoon chapters have directors). Now in fact I guess Shyamalan took this film trilogy as a challenge why? because he has really began to suck big time not that he is a bad director or anything yet his style never changes yeah, all of his movies move around a pattern (something happens, the story goes with some creepy music which tenses you to no end, finally something happens yet it turns out it isn't suppose to be what happens and finally what should really have happened happens and it was in front of everybody's eyes the whole time. SPOILERS AHEAD WARNING: The Village: The Creatures are the elders, Sixth Sense: The main guy was death from the very beginning, Lady in the Water: The Defender was the guy that was doing weights, Signs: The way to attack the martians was water...well I think I made my point.) and so I think whoever is his agent told him "My friend or you pull something good off or you are done for. And by the way give us something new god dammit!" so he is given the offer to make Avatar and goes "YAY! Here is my chance!" so if he blasts this off he is going down big time....really I hope this guy is able to pull it off if not he is good as death as director yet I wish him the best of luck. Because I cannot surely picture the whole part of Pakku fighting Katara with some creepy wanna be childish music (which instead of tense you to no end will irritate you to no end) and suddenly he discovers that Katara is his lovers granddaughter (music changes to calm childish wannabe music.) really this movie is humor and action so he better get it done good and the casting well, now thats something I would really want to see.....
Well I think thats about it.....(looks above)....sorry I think I went overboard.....sorry if its to long..
Sincerely:
Washi
