I had read in The Show Archives a thread called What happened to Fire Lord Azulon?. Well, I decided to answer now, since I wasn't a member and able when the thread was still active.

A lot of people want to believe that either Ursa killed him or he died of old age. Well, the thing is, I think I've figured it out with certainty. I used to believe that Ursa flat out killed him for the protection of her son and ran away, but now that, because of Myaku's lovely help, I can watch videos again on this computer, I watched Zuko Alone. Also, I have a lovely memory when I'm not being distracted, and I remember the quotes pretty well.

Azulon threatened Ozai (Yes, Azulon, not Azula. His name is Azulon.) with punishment. Azula said that it was the death of Zuko. Azula lies all the time, and we didn't hear what the punishment was exactly, only that "...it has just begun." Obviously, after Ursa interfered and drug Azula out of the room, Azula most likely confessed to her what she said to Zuko, or it was true and Ozai told her. Well, believing either Azula or Ozai, she most likely went to Azulon to talk to him and try to change his mind.

Now, what I'm thinking is that, like what was put as the storyline of this RPG, she must have walked in on Ozai and Azula killing him.

In the morning, after Ursa has disappeared, Azula is behind a pillar opening Zuko's knife that he received as a gift from Iroh. And when she is told to give it back, she says, "Who's going to make me... Mom?" with that sneer of hers, dangling the knife in his face. I'm thinking that, because she didn't have a weapon of her own and she really IS a horrible little girl, she took Zuko's knife to kill Azulon, Ozai most likely telling her to do it.

No matter what anyone thinks, even if she's a little girl, she's evil. If she wasn't, she wouldn't talk about the death of either her uncle OR her grandfather. She's a nasty little girl, despite what people WANT to believe.

At Azulon's funeral, the man who crowns Ozai says, "...as your dieing wish..." So, something must have been set up so that Ozai could be crowned. Either he stayed in that room with Azulon and let him die in front of him, then when someone came said that he was to be next to the throne and was too late to save him, or he had edited/placed a fake version of Azulon's will saying that he was to be crowned King.

Now, Ursa's disappearance is still a strange thing. Like, I said, she probably walked in on Azula and Ozai killing him. Well, the fact that Azulon is dead, Ozai no longer has to kill his own son. And if she didn't walk in on them, she may have left a note saying that, "If you are willing to kill Zuko, then I am not staying here with you any longer." Then, leaving Ozai, she tells Zuko, "Everything I have done is to protect you."

So, with that being said, and she really did leave a note, she probably meant to say it just in case Ozai told Zuko what happened the next morning when he awoke. But, when Zuko asks Ozai where his mother is, Ozai does not answer.

I remember someone typing that they think she's dead, because of Zuko's face when he doesn't receive an answer from Ozai. No, his face was sad, not shocked. He was upset because his mother really did leave, and it wasn't just a dream. And the reason why she wasn't spoken of at the funeral is because, no she's not dead or they would have had a funeral for her, it was because she was exiled and wished not to speak of it due to the embarrassment it would cause the new Fire Lord.

This is all that I can say, now. It makes more sense than most any other theory, and I thought that I should share it with everyone. I know that it's a bit too late to say anything, but I finally got to watch that episode without being distracted, and I didn't get to speak for myself when the other thread was open.

If there is anyone who will debate with me on this, feel free. I just know what I'm talking about, now, and needed to type it into a thread for everyone to read, not just send it to a couple of people.

With this in mind, I'm hoping that Ursa shows up in one of the later episodes. That would be awesome!! =)

I'm more inclined to the believe that Ursa killed Azulon herself. Oozai said something about it being Ursa's idea...I think, I don't have your memory, Ursa. It would be a fitting reason to have her exiled and it fits in with her speech about how protective mothers can be.
Plus that would keep Oozai's hands moderately clean and let him ascend to the throne.

I think she'll show up again near the end of the series and explain the whole story.

The real Ozai said that? I have yet to get to that episode, so I wasn't sure. I just now got done watching The Serpant's Pass. But, I thought she may have gotten exiled for leaving him or something. She's just too passive to kill someone. Dunno.

Thank you for putting in your opinion. =) You're right, he may have just said it to keep his hands, seemingly, clean. Though, he and his daughter are the essence of evil. Lol.

I don't think any of the royal family actually killed him. Ursa is too passive, not only that but she doesn't Firebend, at least not that we know of. She'd be up against a powerful Firebender who would kill her in a heartbeat. At the time, Azula was just a little girl. I know she was an evil little prodigy, b ut she was still just a little girl against a Firebending master, so she couldn't have done it. This leaves Ozai, who wants to be the Fire Lord and all that, but Azulon was his father even if Ozai didn't love him at all, I just don't think he would kill him, and I also think he wanted to keep his hands clean.

Here's what I think happened.

Azulon tells Ozai he must kill Zuko. Ursa learns about this and comes up with a plan to save Zuko. The plan is someone, probably one of Azulon's most trusted guards., will assinate Azulon or else mortally wound him. Then Ozai comes to the death scene and fights off the assine, so Azulon is grateful to his son and gives him the throne. It's too late to save Azulon, so he dies taking with him the secret that it was his gaurd. In order to protect the gaurd because he was part of the reason Ozai got the throne, Ursa takes the rat, and she is exiled because of it.

I know it doesn't make sense, but I still think that's what happened.

No, it makes sense. I just wouldn't see why, if that were truly it, Ozai wouldn't just tell someone. And if he can kill so many innocent people, why couldn't he kill his father, who he was most likely stronger?

This is interesting. Lol, it's like debating over if the Northern American Government really is the root of all Satanic evil...Which it is. >.>;; Don't ask, I'll explain in e-mail if you really want to know, lol.

But, it does make sense. It's interesting the different viewpoints everyone has about Azulon's death. This is the first time I heard of the guards possibly being in on it. Which would work because they're easily manipulated by either the ruler, sex, or money. But, rule out sex, I don't think Ursa would be someone to give it up that easily. x.x;

I'm not touching the topic of Avatar being an allegory for American aggression and hegemony.

Oozai saving his father sounds good and would explain why he ascended the throne which was something that I was confused about. Nice idea. I'm sure it was a joint conspiracy between Oozai and Ursa and possibly Azula. Having his young daughter conspire to help kill his father and her grandfather seems like the sort of twisted thing Oozai would do.

There had to be guards in on it but as we've seen the Fire Nation has lame guards. All of their competent people are probably fighting in the war.

Now that I think about it, this might have just been a test on Azulon's part. Kind of like God telling Abraham to kill Isaac...or vice-versa. I get those two confused, but you know what I mean.
Maybe he was going to switch orders at the last minute and say something like: "You sure jumped at the chance to kill your son. You'd be a lousy Fire Lord." or the opposite could also apply. No one really has much of an idea about Azulon's personality.

You have to think of it this way. Azulon would have been guarded at all times, no matter what was happening. In order for Ozai and possibly Azula to kill Azulon, they would have to go past the gaurds first. Then when they came out, saying the Fire Lord has been killed, the guards would know it was them who had done it. Sure, the guards couuld have been in on it, but do you think Ozai would trust them? I mean, as already stated the guards are pretty weak, a few drinks and they'd be all like "Yeah, Ozai killed his dad." Ozai could have killed them as well, but then he'd have even more deaths to count for, and I don't think that would look good for him.

So the gaurd kills Azulon. He's paid off by saying he can keep his job and no one will know. Ursa takes the rat for the guard and is exiled. I think it's believeable because if it was a mysterious assine, then that says something about how bad of a guard he is. Whereares, if it's Ursa, the guard would let her pass easily because she's part of the royal family.

Oh oh oh!!! I finally watched those last two episodes!

So, as it seems, Ursa did kill him. Well, either that.. Or she slept with him. Ew. But, then, how would he have died? Dunno.

Actually, she could have killed him, then Ozai paid the guards to keep their mouths shut. Then, because Ozai is sooo in love with his nation, or whatever, he banished her because of the law of their land. He could have paid everyone to keep their mouths shut that knew, you know?

Well, he says Ursa got banished, so I'm happy that I'm not playing a dead chick. Lol. Hm... >.>
