A year has passed since Fire Lord Zuko ascended the throne, and it seems like trouble is brewing between the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom once more. The Fire Lord and the Avatar began the Harmony Restoration Movement to restore the Fire Nation Colonies to their pre-war state by bringing any Fire Nation nationals back home, but for many of the citizens — of mixed Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom … Read more ›

When Aang kissed Katara I almost died (Kataang forever). This was one of the best episode's I have seen so far. I kind of expected Azula would be one step ahead as usual. She always is. I didn't think Iroh would bust himself out before I watched it. I thought Zuko would, which is half true, considering Zuko tried. There were just so many twists and turns. Grr, for some reason the Fire Lord looked nice when I first saw him this season, but now, he was just so evil sounding... and looking. I kind of wanted Aang not to win. How would there be any more of the season if he did. I loved the fact that Aang has a whole party now. Teo, Haru, The Duke, Katara, Sokka, Aang, probably Zuko. No one is going to be lonley anymore :). I didn't really want Zuko to follow them, because I have a feeling things aren't going to be to hot when they meat each other. I just can't get over Azula, she is so impressive on how she knows everything before it even happens. She is amazing. I loved this episode so much.

I want to send chocolate to the Avatar crew... :) :)

Haru's...... moustache...... has forced me........ to make so...... many..... icons!!! That is love.

The whole thing 'bout Aang kissing Katara made me cheer. Katara's expression was love. Ah, it just strengthens my love for Zutara. ^_^ Heh. What pissed me off was that Katara had to stay behind. Where was my Katara/Zuko confrontation that I've waited 10 eps for???? Where???? Ah well, it will come..... WHEN ZUKO JOINS THE GAANG!!!!!! *runs around doing a super happy happy dance* Yay, yay, for Zutara moments! I'll settle for a moment when you can just see them together! Anything!!!

I have to say that I was really pleased with the overall show — What a fight! It was amazing, maybe not as much as the battle in the Crossroads/end of season 2 episode, but I'm sure that the creators are saving the good stuff for the finale. What really impressed me was the new technology introduced during the show; submarines, torpedoes, airships other than the balloons. It's going to be a lot harder for Aang to hold his advantage in the air now. Of course, I was hoping that the invasion forces would win the battle, but I can see why the creators had the invasion fail. It drags the story out longer. As for Azula's trap: I can't say that I expected her to be waiting for Aang, Sokka and Toph, but it definitely didn't surprise me that'd she'd have thought that far ahead. Even the civilian/servent knew to send the GAang into the trap by giving them misleading directions; it was a good strategy to have Ozai off in some remote, secret little room. At the end of the show, I felt torn. On one hand, Zuko is joining the Avatar, which means that yes, there will be conflict, but Aang will probably have a new Fire bending teacher (which will serve as a good bonding activity, hehe). However, I'm assuming that now the Fire Nation now has the Mechanist (not to mention the rest of the invasion force), which means that they'll be getting better, more efficient war machines. That is, unles the Mechanist somehow resists and finds little ways to delay the progress that the Fire Nation is making with its new technology. Who knows, he might even provide useful information on the Fire Nation's machines later on when the GAang rescues him.

After watching the second part the second time I noticed something a little off. I don't see how Azula could outrun Aang. We've seen he is super fast.
Other than a nerdy nit-pick that took too much thought I thought it was great. I love seeing secondary characters from old episodes and I'm a sucker for team-ups...but I would have squeed out of geeky joy to see a montage of them recruiting their team. I'm a sucker for a good recruitment segment.

I got a huge kick out of Appa's armor. I hope he keeps it. I'd also love it if Momo got some little lemur armor. It was also nice to finally see Sokka use his jian but I was hoping he'd have a showdown with someone strong.

And before I forget, I love Aang's new outfit. He looks like a shaolin monk and I'm glad he finally shaved his head. To me, he looked a little wrong with hair.

Despite not seeing Sokka impale somone or armored Momo I enjoyed it greatly.

Omg! I loved the hour long episode it so rocked! And im so happy that Aang and Katara kissed, i was sooo waiting for that! They love each other so much and i can't wait to see what happens at the Air Temple. I started to cry seeing the kids leaving the adults, it was sooo sad. I knew that Azula was going to screw everything up, i hate her so much. But the over all fight was great. The Earthbenders rocked, as well as the Water Tribe warriors, but i wanted to see more action from Katara. The Earthbender tanks, omg, after watching that i wanted one, oh and didn't Appa look AWESOME! Gosh i just loved it and oh i can't believe Zuko left i was so surprised, oh and WHERE IS SUKI?!?!. Man i've never said so, so many times before lol

This episode was just amazing! I did see some of it coming like the Aang and Katara kiss. I mean, Aang was going to face the Fire Lord. He knew he might not return, and he wanted Katara to know how he felt first. I'm still so happy he did kiss her though instead of being stupid and just saying good luck or something.

I always kneww Ursa had died for Zuko. It was just so obvious to me, but I can't help wondering what she actually did to commit treason. As for Zuko turning his back on the Fire Nation, I knew that was coming too. I just didn't expect it so soon. I'm not annoyed that he's following the Gaang, but it'll take him a while to gain their trust, especially Katara.

The only thing I didn't like was the lack of fighting Katara did. I mean, she and Sokka to out that one thing and the rest of the time she was helping her dad. I mean, she's like the most powerful Waterbender there, but instead of fighting she just helps her dad. I understand why she did it. I just don't like it.

Oh, and Haru is hot!

I'm pretty sure that Ursa killed Azulan. It would explain why he died and why she was exiled all in one night. In Zuko Alone she said something to the effect that she'd kill to protect her children.
I just don't get how Oozai still wound up being Fire Lord. Iroh would still be first in line for succession since he was older. Plus, I think it's weird that all this happened in the space of one night. Zuki pretty much woke up and everything had changed.

Back to the show discussion, I was glad to see that Sokka is still carrying a torch for Suki. He even cried which was touching. He'd never have done that in the first season.

These episodes really showcased how the characters have grown in a relatively short time.

God I loved the episode. I mean who couldn't like it?! Well I was slightly surprised by a few things, for one i was surprised that Aang ddid not even get to fight the Fire Lord, I was so pumnped for that fight. I figured that they would fight and he would not be able to win, but seems my hope was squished. Anyways, I just loved the Aang x Katara scene, fianlly they know how each other feel and you can bet that life in the Gaang camp will be a whole lot different now. Also another thing I loved. though not expecting it to happen quite so soon was Zuko leaving the fire nation for the Gaang. I mean who truly though he would leave that soon. The only major event that did not surprise me was Iroh breaking out of prision. I mean we have seen him training for that and it was pretty obvious that the attack on the Fire Capitol would be the perfect distraction. I also wanted to say that I thought it was briliant with all the new inventions. I mean come on! Submarines, Earth Nation tanks, torpedos and even those new air carriers. Also I loved that we got to see swamp guys again and the big sea weed monster! xD

Anyways I have to say that I loved the episode, but it left me wanting more. I suppose that will come throughout the season...One thing I am wondering is how the Gaang will react to Zuko and what Zuko will teach to Aang. He may teach him lightning! If everyone remembers he knows the form to make lightning, he did not just have peace at mind at the time. Now with his mind peaceful and happy he can use it and even if he can't use it he can teach the form to Aang who already being easy at mind could probably use it. Not to mention the perfect defense against lightning bending. (Which I was happy to see Zuko use)

Well, although not everything I was hoping for happened, I still think I have a new favorite episode....episodes... movie.... thing.... anyway, Day of Black Son is my new favorite Avatar thing so far... Zuko was incredible, iv been waiting since season two to see him use Iroh's lightning re-directing move and when he finally used it against the Firelord... well, lets just say i would have rather seen it being used to electricute Azula, but this was a much more powerful scene... the one disappointment aside from that (and Iroh not breaking in and fighting the Firelord with Zuko) for me was the whole scene between Sokka and Azula... someone finally got the chance to decapitate Azula and they passed it up... so she will unfortunately be back for season four... >:(

Wow, this was a great episode(s), Avatar will be more popular than ever if they keep this up. Makes you wonder what the finale will be like.
The animation was superb. The artists did a wonderful job. You can tell they put in a lot of extra effort into making this episode. The plot followed suit, even if there were quite a few things that were expected, there were many great twists. Take Haru’s Mustache for example (Grr… Haru, he don’t stand a chance hahahahaha!) that was pretty surprising to me.
I like many others wanted to see more of Katara in the battle, still it made sence and fit her character pretty well. Just like that kiss w/ Aang! It’s too bad they were separated for the rest of the episode, I would have liked to have seen more but sadly I have to wait for the next episode. Also I don’t think that the presence of Zuke (if he does find them) or Haru will truly effect the Kataang relationship, not when its been carried so far to the next level.
The battle was really good to. I didn’t expect Katara’s Dad to get gotted. And it’s pretty sweet that they’ve got the kids together again, there’s probably going to be another journey. Oh and those airships were pretty dang awesome. Who knew the fire nation were such clever buggers? Anyway that’s what I have to say in a nutshell.
Peace Out, Kataang Foreva!

KatAangKatAangKatAangKatAangKatAangKatAangKatAangKatAangKatAangKATAANG!!!!!

*cartwheels around the room in happiness"

*ahem* Yes, well I think I've made my point ;)

I could feel tha LURVE in this special ep(s) and aside from the 'obvious' *points up* the scene between Azula and Sokka ROOOLD! - She's got the mark of him, and knows just how to push his buttons... Can I just bend your mind a sec? - AzulOkka!! YES, you heard right - The UST between them is so crispy and he needs to 'punish' her and humiliate her thoroughly (if you catch my drift).

Obviously he's in love with Suki though, so that's probably just a pipe-dream...

Yes, that's the other thing, SokkUki - I believe there's a real future for them, and I can hardly wait for the scene between them where he explains about him and Princess Yue... Though I guess that's slightly off-topic seeing as how this thread's specifically about the day-of-black-sun...

Anywho, if you can't tell I'm in a romantic mood today... Aside from the romance, however, Zuko's confrontation with Ozai was da-bomb! And now he's gonna try to join-up with the GAang? Sweet move by the writers, especially following the stuff in Book 2's finale between him and Katara - I can hardly wait to see THOSE sparks fly! - I wonder how jealous Aang will get with Zuko and Haru around competing for Katara's attentions... ;)

And another good point has been raised - With Zuko around, will he be teaching Aang Fire-bending? Or perhaps they'll meet up with Iroh too - I always thought Irou would make a good Fire-bending teacher for Aang... Though of course, Aang already met his destined Fire-bending master a while ago, and just hasn't seen him again yet... Place your bets on who will teach Aang Fire-bending from now on: Zuko, Iroh, the other guy (forgot his name), or someone we haven't meet yet?

There's so much to react to that I've missed out a lot of neat stuff, but perhaps my views have given some people something to think about anyway

Honestly... I think it will be between Zuko, Iroh, or Ursa, if they find her in time. Now that I know that she really did kill Azulon, I know she HAS to have firebending skills. If she didn't, then she wouldn't have been able to kill such a strong man. Talking about teaching Aang firebending, of course.

But, all the romance... Everyone knew it was going to happen, anyway. I guess I'm the only one who didn't get excited when I saw Aang and Katara kiss. What did get me, though, was Sokka's reaction towards Azula when she mentioned Suki. That's true feelings right there. When you're willing to get in someone's face that could rip you in half, all for the one you love, you know it's true. But... Hm... I can't help but wonder who Toph will end up finding, though she's just a little girl. Oh, one thing I don't like about all of the kissing is the fact that children watch the show. What are they going to think about that? They should just kiss everyone they sort of like? Eh... I'm an idiot for thinking about it, I suppose.

Now, Ozai... He's a manipulative evil little thing, isn't he? Heheh. I smiled just now. Yes, I've realized I favor the bad guys over the good guys sometimes. I want Aang to win but I just can't help but love some of the evil characters. Azula makes me feel a little bit stronger about myself, as well. Confidence. The way Ozai pushed Zuko's buttons, though. You could barely tell, but it was getting to him. Zuko had just grown up a bit and was able to hide it, up until the point where Ozai mentioned his mother... WHO IS ALIVE!!! =D!!

Gah... I liked that episode. =) I guess my reason for replying is that it was wonderful. What was depressing was the fact that Katara's father could possibly die while being a prisoner of the Fire Nation.

-Yawn-

All in all, a pretty boring episode. I didn't understand how Azula could outrun Aang, nor why Katara / Aang didn't even attempt to take down the big blimps. They took down that massive Drill. It's not even like they tried. Same goes for earth benders - where were the Ground to Air rocks!? That sucked majorly.

Some things I wanted to happen, were;

Ozai getting power back, pwning alot of the army to the point where they have to fall back, then getting beat down by Azula, who takes the throne as Fire - Queen? She then defeats Zuko (not kills him) and Uncle takes Zuko away. The GAang escape, and Uncle and Zuko are set to hunt them down, but now for different reasons, and act as their guardians.

Uh, yeah. That's what would have made more sense, and would have filled out the characters more. In my opinion anyway.

Well, the reason why they didn't try to take the rest of the blimps down was because, while they were trying to fly up there and had taken down two of them, fire was being constantly shot at them. Katara and Aang could no longer hold it off, so they turned around and ran.

And I think the story is better now than it was before. The point of Zuko and Iroh being with the team is so that it's not the same as it was before. People get tired of the same thing happening over and over. No one wants to see him try and try and fail each time. x.x

I still mean that Iroh and Zuko will be sided with the Avatar, but take different directions.

And again with the constant fire thing, surely they could make it to the top of them - there wasn't a place for fire people on top. A quick water sword and it's down. Nevermind, forever shall i wonder :P

I still think that Azula needs to be Fire ... Queen, or Lordess haha. Ozai sucks.

Yeah... She probably does. But, won't until either he's dead or removed from the throne for somehow messing up. Which, I just realized, may be something that happens later on. She may just get Ozai killed... That b-tch. Lol.

Hm... I wonder how it would be done. Probably get Mai and Tai Lee to do it, because she's mean to her friends like that. =P

I'm really surprised there's no mention of Sozin's Comet here, wasn't this pretty much their last gambit? What if Sozin's comet does come? I wonder how big of a power boost it will be to fire benders. I hope it's not too drastic, I wouldn't want Katara to become useless after destroying Azula a few times.
