Name: Akane Katsuro.
Meaning: Deep red.
Age: 19.
Affiliation: Fire Nation.
Appearance: When one first sees Akane, one might mistake her for a femme fatale. Her long raven hair goes to the middle of her back, and she often keeps two strands in front to frame her face.
She has almond-shaped eyes that are the color of honey, complementing the creamy color of her skin. Oftentimes, she looks like shes hiding something, even when she's not. Her lips are often pulled into a half-smile. Her face is more on the slender side, while still being filled out enough to have substance.
Her body type mirrors her face, slender without being too slender. Under the red robes she wears, she hides a body built for grace and speed, two skills she often uses for swordplay. She walks with a more refined air usually attributed to Fire Nation noble girls and holds herself as such.
Since she envies the noble girls, she tries to make herself look more refined. With the money she earns dancing in the streets, she has bought herself numerous pieces of jewelry: bracelets, earrings, necklaces and anklets. She tries not to wear too many, but she always likes to add to her collection so she has her choice of numerous pieces to wear.
History: Akane was born in the Fire Nation, the second of four girls. Her father, formerly a noble and a warrior for the Fire Nation, left the army after his wife died and focused on raising his family. Akane, although mischievous, did the best out of her father's children in school. With her intelligence came natural curiosity, often asking her father what it had been like to fight in the war. She also acquired a love for dance and acrobatics, attending a local school to improve her skill.
When she was 14, she ran away from home and tried to join the circus. They accepted her and she became "Ember," a dancer who performed often dangerous dances, among other things. She grew tired of circus life, though, realizing that she preferred the stability of her life back home.
Although her father disapproved of his daughter's running away in the first place, he welcomed her with open arms. Soon, things got back to normal and she resumed her life.
For her 16th birthday, her father took the whole family to the Fire Days Festival, where she entertained crowds by dancing with Firebenders. Her stunts earned her acclaim at the festival, and she was invited back to dance next year at the Festival. She gladly accepted and was invited back the next three years.
When she was 17, she met a young Firebender named Azei. They quickly fell in love, but as time went on, they realized that it wasn't meant to be. Not at all jaded by their breakup, she went back to her free existence.
Personality: Akane, although sometimes envious, is usually an even-tempered person. She sees everyone as equal and even though she's a fierce Fire Nation loyalist, she doesn't have a problem with people from other Nations. Her experience outside the Fire Nation is extremely limited, however.
Although she likes to say she isn't, Akane's vanity is a little more pronounced than most people's. She takes her appearance very seriously because she knows that her success as a dancer banks on it, especially during the Festival. Normally, she'll let any insults about her appearance slide off her back at first, but insults like those tend to eat at her. She's constantly striving for approval as far as her appearance goes.
Akane is an optimist, tending to see the good in everyone rather than the bad. She loves her friends and is the kind of person that would go out of her way to help them. She does this to a lesser degree for people she's acquainted with, even less so for people she doesn't know. Still, she's always looking for people she can add to her social circle, especially nobles.
There are times when she gets extremely depressed for no reason. These episodes are few and far between, but when they happen, her life is put on hold while she deals with it. Fortunately, this hasn't happened during any important times, but there's always the chance that it might. She tries not to let this rule her life, though.
