Her past is one thing that she cannot tell the truth about, not totally, anyways. Her story she told was sad, mysterious, and strange, but not true. Her story was that she was born the daughter of a Fire Nation noble, and she ran away rather than marry a sadistic and cruel nobleman's son. The first half was true, but in reality, she had married the sadistic and cruel son, who was a powerful Fire Bender. He was considered hansome, and powerful, but to her he never said an unkind word. They had two children. The eldest, a boy, was clumsy and determined, much like the woman was herself before sorrows darkened her thoughts, creased her brow and robbed her of her nearly legendary beauty.
Her other child, a year younger, was an adept firebender, like her father and grandfather, but her amber eyes burned with flames of destruction. There was no doubt which parent she took after, with her apathetic sadism that was nothing like her mother. She was, frankly, scary to her beautiful mother.
Then came the day when the character whom I now describe's husband, who was the younger of two brothers, found out that his brother's son had died in the war. When more caring brothers would have mourned, the man, whose wickedness was slowly becoming apparent, had taken the oppurtunity to ask his father two change heirs and basically disown his brother. His father strongly disagreed. Seeing what was about to occur, the fire nation noblewoman was forced to take her children out of the room. They fell behind, but when the older son came rushing after her, she realized that they had stayed behind, and watched the flames boil over.
That night, her husband did return, but for the first time, it was truly obvious how he craved power, power that his father held. His father was old, he said, and might accidently die in his sleep. She saw his face, and knew what he was saying.
"No! I will not-"
But he interrupted her. With a low voice, he told her that young boys also sometimes had accidents, and drowned in the pond when their mothers weren't looking. The thinly veil threat silenced any argument she had, her love for her on overcoming her desire for right. She found a knife, and hid it in a travelling cloak. Her last words to her son told him to never forget who he was, before she stole into the night. These truly were her last words to him, for she never saw either child again.
After that night, that night that burned into her memory, she had to escape the Fire Nation, and, foolishly, took a small boat out into the powerful sea. The calm night seemed to fly into a rage, and her boat was shattered by the sea's might. When she next awoke, she didn't know what had happened, all she knew was that she was in the Earth Kingdom, and she was safe. She hid these memories in her mind, and never set them free.
After fleeing the Fire Nation, all of her youthful beauty melted away, and she became a sorrowful old woman. Her life was meaningless until she found her was to an old medicine lady, a hermit, who taught her of herb craft, and lent her a new purpose of being. But she still could not return to her old days of living. She now grew even more compassionate to those in need, though she only helped those who were alone for fear of others seeing her. Another lesson the hermit woman, who lived deep in the woods was her more precise whereabouts. She had wondered why the few people she encountered wore blue instead of green, but as it turned out, she was on Kyoshi island, which may yet be the only safe place on Earth.
Her hair grayed quickly in the past nine years, but her face was not fully wrinkly, not yet. She now wore a olive color dress instead of her fire nation clothes. Her eyes were still hazel, but now they never smiled, even when she did. The mark of shame still was on her concience, and though she helped others, she could never was herself clean from it. She never told anyone her true name, the name that was lost to all but a precious few. even among the few whom encountered her.The name Ursa.
