Katsumi politely declined the burlesque, but Ling grinned anyway. "I was just kidding," she said lightly, expertly concealing her discomfiture at pressing her friend into something she should've known better than to do. Of course Katsumi wouldn't want to go to a burlesque after work.

"Sure, the marketplace!" Ling was happy for a change in topic. "You know, I hear there is this new food stand, if you're into southern Earth Kingdom food — they've got a lot of stuff that's just amazing: spicy fish skewers, fried sausage, dumplings, roasted corn, the works!"

She sauntered inside Katsumi's house, taking no note of the disrepair; her house was immaculate mainly because Mei was a neat person. Ling was a mess, but had long since learned to keep herself in check around her sister, including in her own room. Her desk at the office, however, was another story entirely, with every single desk in the office filled with her amassed unfiled paperwork, office supplies, and various other things she had long forgotten the use for but couldn't bring to throw away.

"Take your time," she said as her friend disappeared into her bedroom. "The food isn't going anywhere for a couple of hours yet."

Katsumi finally emerged with the purse and checked herself in the mirror. "You look fine," she said, offering up the crook of her elbow when the other woman announced she was ready. "Let us away, my fancy lady."

Once they were outside, Ling paused. The market wasn't that far from where they were, but the night would probably call for a lot of walking, when Katsumi had been on her feet all day. Not wanting her friend to be overly tired — and somewhat hoping for a little tumble at the end of the night — Ling turned to Katsumi with a shrug.

"Do you want to take a cab?" she asked.

She hoped she hadn’t disappointed her friend by choosing a more tame option than the burlesque. Ling was certainly the type to prefer more adventurous evenings, but, given that she’d just gotten off of work, Katsumi was in the mood for something a little lower in energy. And, to be honest, she was pretty hungry. Just the mention of the endless temptations to be found at the marketplace was enough to make her salivate a little. As long as they both had fun, this was looking to be an excellent night.

Ling’s entrance into her apartment just made its obvious state of disarray that much more noticeable to her. The other woman reminded her that they were in no hurry, but she was quick to return with her bag all the same. She offered up a smile as thanks for the reassurance that she looked fine, but blushed when Ling called her fancy. “I don’t know about all that,” she replied, laughing. “But thanks. Let’s go.”

It was wonderful to be out on the street at night without having to head directly to the ‘Fan. There was a bit of a breeze, but it wasn’t as cold as she had expected, which was fortunate given that her dress did little to help regulate her temperature. She nodded at Ling’s suggestion that they hail a cab. It did seem an unnecessary expense, but she’d need her strength for the marketplace and whatever came after, so it would be best not to expend energy walking when she didn’t have to.

Living close to the ‘Fan as she did, her street was fairly busy, making it easy for her to flag down one of the many cabs that passed by. When one did stop, she held the door for Ling, sliding into the vehicle after her friend. Directions were issued to the driver, and they were off.
