To say that Ren’ai had been frustrated with her life over the past couple weeks was an understatement. First of all, they failed to make it past the Quarter-Finals. In fact, they pretty much got slammed by the Flying Koi. Sure, they got beat by the Fire Ferrets, but it still upset her that they had lost. It had all been her fault, too. If she hadn’t been a bit more logical and less emotional than it would never have happened. She would have been a better Captain – should have been a better Captain, that is. The dark-haired young woman could not fault her teammates when she was the Captain and should have been directed the team better. She let her emotions get the better of her, and they lost because of it. There was no else to blame.

Ren’ai arrived at the practice gym that they’d be working in. She changed into her practice outfit, and put on her helmet. Thinking about the Quarter-final in which they’d been defeated reminded her about the party that her parents had thrown her. She had been hopeful, which had probably been stupid from the start. The Firebender had hoped that everything would go great. In fact, she had seen it all in her mind. Her friends and family would all get along great. Her parents would not mention for once that she was a failure in their eyes. Liu would show up and everyone would like and approve of him. For once, her parents wouldn’t disapprove for someone that she was dating. She honestly didn’t care what they thought, but it would make it so much easier on her life if they approved of what she did. She hadn’t been naïve enough to think that they’d suddenly come around, but that didn’t matter to her.

However, things had not gone that way at all, though it had seemed like it at first. Everyone had been getting along. Liu showed up late, but he showed up. He and Tadashi had a good conversation. Sure, she had been ignored until she had planned on inserting herself into Yuri and Kamil’s conversation. Then, Liu had left, claiming to be sick. Everything had seemed to go all right. She, Yuri and Kamil had talked. She and her Earthbending best friend had been telling their Waterbender how horrible she had been. However, as soon as the party ended, her parents had asked her when she was going to give up this stupid “probending stuff”. It had infuriated her, and of course, they disapproved of Liu casue he left early. No matter how many times she had said that he was sick, they didn’t buy it. He hadn’t seemed sick. People could be fairly decent actors when they wanted to be, but that didn’t see that.

Nothing had gone well after that, at least as far as Probending was concerned. Well, Ren’ai supposed she couldn’t really say that. After all, everything had seemed to be going good in practice. The Quarter-final hadn’t, though. They’d lost to the Flying Koi. Now, she wasn’t sure if Liu really had been sick or not. After all, he had said that he “busy” or always had something else to do. She had pretty much given up. That had been short and sweet – just like her Probending season. It made her so angry, and she didn’t know what to do about it. The dark-haired young woman had distracted herself with work, but she knew that doing that forever was pointless. So, she decided that there was no point in avoiding it. The next season would be here soon enough, and as the Captain of the Dragon Hawks, she would make sure that her team was prepared – whether they liked it or not.

Ren’ai started practicing alone. She wasn’t Firebending yet, though – going through the movements. No one else was here yet, and that wasn’t helping her temper, either. She tried to keep herself calm, but the dark-haired young woman had never been very good at that. All she had to do was wait until Yuri and Kamil got here and they actually got something accomplished. Why were they late to begin with? She had been clear on the time that she had set. She was the Captain, after all. Why weren’t they are? She sent an angry blast at the floor before realizing how stupid that was. She wasn’t really upset at them, but she had no other way to vent her anger. She didn’t know what else to do, so she was taking it out on the people around her. She had gotten in trouble at work because of it. She was really upset that her Probending dreams, which had finally happened, had not happened the way she wanted.

Ugh, where were they?

Yuri was still a bit confused about what had happened. The party was great and of course things just felt off to her when Kamil was acting very nice and even complementing her. But with the help of her brother and Ren’ai she was able to keep from running out the door. The one thing that she thought was very odd was that her friend’s boyfriend that she had been seeing had left rather early because he did not feel well. It could have been that he had eaten something that did not agree with him earlier in the day and it had just now decided to hit him the wrong way, or just a bug that was going around. She just hoped that she would not catch it if by some chance that Ren’ai had caught it from her boyfriend without knowing it. Or was it just mean of her to have been worried about her own health?

Well everything had been going great, the food was awesome and she had all of the red sauce that she wanted. A part of the green eyed woman had been a little concerned that their waterbender would judge her, but she had decided not to worry about it and enjoy herself. And telling him a couple of stories about when her and their captain had met each other when they were kids. Of course her and Ren’ai’s parents seemed to be of one mind when the party was over. Which had ticked them both off, and the short haired woman thought that it was not wise to go home because her roommate was sure to take her anger out on the first person that she saw. So in short she had spent some time wondering around until it was late enough to assume that her friend would be asleep when she got home.

Their next match had not gone as planned; she had been so pissed off at herself that she had punished herself because she thought that it was her fault that they had lost. But there was nothing to be gained from living in the past and not moving forward, the best thing that they could all do was work harder and crush the other teams in the next season. As she went to the training center and put on her uniform a part of her couldn’t help but to think of the blue eyed woman that had personally targeted her during their final match. But she pushed out all thoughts of the woman as she walked into the training room and saw her best friend, and no sign of the man that had made her blush so much.

Not wanting to interrupt her friend she just started to go through her own movements. No bending just yet but she was aware of how equally angry her captain was, and ready to block anything that could be aimed her way at a moment’s notice. Just as a precaution because she knew that Ren’ai could go off at any moment.

Things sure had gotten relatively hectic after that last party. It had been quite fun and everything; being around different kinds of people in general was pretty interesting, and seeing people you don't usually see outside of training or a tournament was also a nice change. Talking and learning a bit about both Ren'ai and Yuri was a plus as well. No, everything around then had been rather enjoyable. It's around the time of the team's second match that things became a little less stellar.

Kamil wasn't going to lie to himself, he was upset that they had lost, and he did feel like he was partially to blame. The team had felt disorganized for the longest time, but even while feeling that he had continued to do his own thing. The captain didn't have to tell them every single thing that they had to do. For several days after the match he pretty much ended up training on his own, pushing himself way more than he had ever done during practice with the rest of the team. His father had caught him training and as much as he had tried dodging the subject, he ended up having to tell him that yes, he was in a Probending team against his and his grandmother's wishes and no, he had no plans on quitting any time soon. Surprisingly enough his father didn't seem to mind as much. However, he had told Kamil that, if he really had no plans on quitting he at least tell his grandmother about it, rather than have her find out through other methods. As reluctant as he was, he promised he'd do just that. Eventually.

After all, with the attack during the last Probending match, who really had time to practice Probending anymore? And if he wasn't actively participating in the sport in any way, surely there wasn't any rush in telling his grandmother anything. Though along with that, he wasn't really allowed out on the streets. Or at least, as often as he used to. Before he was on the go almost all day either delivering things, or picking materials and the likes up. Now his father was the one that did that most of the time, while he was stuck either behind the cash register, or in the back of the store helping his grandmother make new articles of clothing. It was safe to say that Kamil was getting more than a little tired with accidentally stabbing himself with those accursed needles, if some of the bandages on his fingers where to mean anything. He wasn't all that worried for himself; more for his grandmother and Saya. The latter of whom he practically forced to just move in with him for the time being. Her living situations were just too haphazard.

With all that going on he was more than a little happy when he heard about the team's next practice. He didn't care if it was under work hours he just wanted to do something else that wasn't working. It was a little nice, wearing the training clothes again. It probably would have been equally nice to see the girls again, had he not felt something a little off once he was in the same room as them. Specifically from Ren'ai's direction. He had been in the middle of greeting them when he thought that, instead of saying anything, maybe it was best he did something more productive. Like maybe warming up a bit and going into his movements like they seemed to doing. With his defense up.

Ren’ai had retreated into her thoughts. The young woman continued kicking and punching, going through her movements. Part of her felt like it didn’t matter, though, because even if they all knew what they were doing separately, they had obviously not gelled as a team. She felt her anger course through her as she realized how much of an utter failure she had been as a Captain. It was all her fault. As their leader, she should have known better. She should have been better, and not let her anger get ahead of her. She didn’t, though. It wasn’t as if the dark-haired Firebender didn’t know that she was a hot head. Of course she was. She didn’t realize until now that she let it get the better of her.

Ren’ai had always known that she had a temper. In fact, when she was a little girl, she used to be a whole lot worse. Even now, though, if she was pushed enough, she went straight for Firebending. It took all of her self control at work not to do that to customers who were rude, or like that old guy who had hit on her. That would get her fired easily, no questions asked. The Firebender never thought that it would interfere with her Probending as well. Well, it had. It wasn’t as if she was the only factor in their losing the Quarter-Finals, but.. .maybe just maybe if she had thought of it sooner, the loss might not have happened. There was no guarantee of that, as the Flying Koi had been on their game that night.

Ren’ai felt the anger coursing through her again. She balled her hands into her fists. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Kamil and Yuri practicing. Taking a deep breath, the dark-haired young woman forced herself to calm down. They had a job to do, and coming next season, she wanted to be able to do that. There was no way that she was going to allow them to fail again. It would be one thing if they were at their best, and honestly beaten by the other team. That hadn’t been what happened, though, and as she practice, her mind drifted back to the Quarter-Final match against the Flying Koi, she continued going through the movements, each one getting more intense.

Ren’ai’s main opponent had been Jin. In the first round, he had attacked her first, and it didn’t seem to stop. It had infuriated her when he’d pushed her off into the water at the end of the first round. Of course, he’d sent four strong attacks towards her. It had been too much for her, and it had sent her in the water. The Firebender had been furious about it, and had spent the rest of the match trying to get back at him for it – him specifically. It was stupid. There were three people on the team, but her main focus had been the other Firebender. It may have caused them the match, because maybe if she had realized that her team should have been focused on teamwork and not grudge matches things would have turned out differently.

As it was, the Dragon Hawks won the last round after it had been pointed out to the teams by the announcer that they were not focused on teamwork. That was how the Raven-Eagles had managed to push Yuri off in their first match, and it was how her team had managed to win the third round over the Flying Koi. Of course, that was one around. The Flying Koi had taken the first two rounds, so it didn’t matter. At least they had ended it on their terms. The Flying Koi had been beaten by the Fire Ferrets in the next week, but it didn’t matter because they had still got to go on and she, Yuri, and Kamil didn’t. And it was all because she had been a hot headed fool, and let Jin make her mad and get under her skin. How should she had forgotten that Probending was a team sport?

Ren’ai forced herself to take a deep breath, but of course, the bad things had kept on coming. She and Liu were over, which infuriated her more than anything else because it could have worked. There was nothing to be done about it, though, and had that been the only thing that had been bothering her over the past couple of weeks, it wouldn’t have mattered. As it was, her parents had been in the audience during the Quarter-Final match she had participated in, and had promptly told her how stupid she had been for even entertaining the idea. The fact that she and Liu had ended their relationship shortly after only gave her parents more license to tell her how much her life sucked right now, how much that she had been wrong and that they had been right all along. They were sure that everything that had happened to her had been proof of that.

Oh, sure, Ren’ai tried to tell her parents that she had a mistake that she would learn from, or well something to that effect. Tasukete and Kyouko hadn’t listened to her, and had stuck to their guns – she was wrong and they were right. Probending was stupid, she always dated the wrong guys, there was no point in her working, she needed to settle down with the right guy, blah blah blah… She had been so furious at them that she had almost sent a fireball at both of her parents. That was stupid, though, as her father was more than a match for her, and her mother – provided there was water around – was no slouch, either. Needless to say, though, that she hadn’t spoken to either of her parents since then. She wasn’t sure when that would change, but the young woman was sure that a time would come when she would need to go to dinner – or something like that.

After all, it wasn’t as if she was mad at her brothers or anything like that.
Taking a deep breath, Ren’ai forced herself to calm down. The Firebender took a few deep breaths, attempting to calm herself before she opened up her mouth to speak to her teammates. She wasn’t sure it was entirely working, but at least she was trying to take a step in the right direction. Turning to Yuri and Kamil, she figured that she might as well just stop them so she could say something real quick. After all, they needed to get down to business sometime today, and all of this sparing alone was not going to do anything. Well, nothing anything productive that is. If they were going to be competitive next season, they had a lot of work to do and she was going to make sure that they did it if it killed her.

Ren’ai cleared her throat, but figuring that probably wouldn’t work too well, the dark-haired young woman opted for a different approach. “Hey, Yuri, Kamil, stop, please.” After the Firebender made sure that they did stop before she continued speaking, her hands resting on her hips as she did so. “Okay, so… obviously, last season did not go as planned.” Understatement of the century as far as I’m concerned, she thought to herself. “We didn’t make it past the Quarter-Finals, and we pretty much handed the victory to the Flying Koi’s.” Wasn’t that the truth? “If we… if I had been better Captain, none of this would have happened. We could have beaten them, truly. We did, in fact, but too little too late to move on to the semi-finals against the Fire Ferrets. “

Ren’ai’s thoughts overtook her for a moment. She imagined the match going much differently, more as to how the third round did. The entire match could have easily gone that way had she been paying attention more. She didn’t, however, and so they lost. “Our first match against the Raven-Eagles was pure luck,” she said. “Had they had an actual proper Firebender the entire time and not had to switch partway through, things might have gone a lot differently.” She shrugged her shoulders. “We have no way of knowing. The point is that I don’t plan on letting anything like what happened against the Flying Koi happen again.”

Ren’ai turned around, and walked back to the center of the room. She positioned herself so that she, Yuri and Kamil would create a triangle, with the center of the room in the middle of them. She got into her fighting stance. “Come on,” she said, trying not to sound too much of a bossy jerk. They had to start if they wanted to be in top form before next season started. She wasn’t entirely sure when that would be, but at this point in time, she honestly didn’t give a damn. “Let’s get started.” She thought about letting one of them make a move first, but then thought against it. As soon as they were in position, she sent one blast towards Yuri, and another towards Kamil, following that up with an arc of flame that would go towards both of them.

Yuri was so caught up in following through with her movements and reviewing where she had gone wrong in past matches that the sound of Ren’ai’s voice jerked her back into the present. Trying not to seem like she had been disturbed she finished up her last move as if nothing had happened before fully facing her captain. A part of her still couldn’t help but to feel the disappointment in herself for not being on the top of her game during that last match against the Flying Koi. She had not even noticed that Kamil was there. When did he get there? She forced herself to nod in his direction because she still did not know what to say to him. It’s not like she did not like him it was that he still made her feel just a bit uneasy still.

Maybe it was true that with time that everything would became easy to deal with, from men to training. Well if it came down to it she would rather train and work then deal with dating. It just did not seem to be her thing, because she always seemed to be tongue tied when she tried talking to people that she found attractive. And why did it seem to be people with blue eyes? Oh well at this time she decided to tune out of her own thoughts and pay attention to what their infamously elected captain had to say. Sure Ren’ai had things right about how they had blown things in the past and it was going to be different from now on. They were going to work more as a team and knock the next team clear off of the field and into the drink.

A part of her was almost taken aback as her friend took the right position to attack both her and the waterbender, so she was ready when the sudden blast of fire came towards her. Without a second thought she brought up a disk to block and then sent one aimed towards the taller man’s chest. She was sure that he would forgive her for such a move because they were meant to push each other to make each other better, and to reach higher and to trust the other two to back you up in the attack. Now it was their move and her job to keep her ground and not to give a single inch or else she would be disappointed in herself for going soft.
