Airi was ecstatic when the boys joined her in one of her favorite sports. Bolin, though, unlike what she would have thought to use with earth bending, had brought up a whole pillar from the ground to jump his way to the roof she stood on. Most of the younger kids she had played this with made pathways with loose bricks that would hold until they passed, or stand on a platform, pushing it forward like it was a sled on a downward hill. Anyways, if they did anything too drastic to play their game, their parents would have noticed and pulled them inside. Inside had been so boring, but now, older and in a different time in the city, it was a haven.

Then again, as kids, they weren't the most powerful benders, most just leaning on how to pick up their natural gifts. If anything, it was one of the many ways kids like her had learned how to bend at first. Lots of middle class citizens like her family hadn't a lot of money to actually take them for lessons, most parents teaching their children the basics over time and very slowly. Roofjumping had simply been a way to test out their skills. There had been other games, but none had made such an impression as this one had. To actually make something stick for a girl who lost her train of thought often was something one should look over lightly in considering how big a part of her life it had been. Well, it hadn't been a huge part, but it was all the same!

"Awesome!"
she chimed happily, a nagging thought in the back of her mind wondering if Bolin would lower the column but she chose to keep it silent. After all, jumping roves really wasn't something one would just do if told so. It was like that mother's proverb (she could call it that, right?) that went 'If all the other kids were jumping off a cliff, would you?'. When you say it like that, of course a kid wouldn't! And you could interchange 'cliff' with 'rooftop' really easily. As a kid, her group was what pompous parents often referred to as 'brats' or 'ruffians' merely for having a bit of fun. Slightly dangerous fun, but it wasn't like those kinds of parents would even let their kids go on a walk in the park by themselves!

A giggle escaped Airi's lips, caused by the looks given to the trio by passerbys. Of course, small children with little bending abilities wouldn't cause such a scene, but the three were all probenders and much older than a group of children. Bolin's column didn't help anything, even if bursts of fire were also eye-catching. "Did you like it?" she asked, her eyes practically sparkling. Another thought popped up in the back of her mind, simply thinking if Mako was still concerned she was trying to injure either one of them so they couldn't play. My, my, what a mess that would make!

"Race you toooo... over there!" she pointed ahead, about three roves away where a rather impressive garden sat, mounds of dirt not only for the plants, but some simply sitting there waiting to be used. Long distance runs always needed some kind of thing to soften the blow if someone couldn't slow quickly enough. The firebender stretched a bit, first pointing her hands towards the sky and then touching her toes. "Go!" she announced. She sped off, taking long strides then, feet before the edge, she jumped, landing on the edge and using her momentum and a burst of fire from her feet to propel herself forward. She landed, stumbling a bit, but keeping on her feet.

This next roof she jumped off without the help of her bending, using her fire in midair to give her the added push she needed to make the jump, simply to mix it up a bit instead of the same trick after the same trick. Besides, it wasn't fun if it was all repetition! It reminded her way too much of practice! One, two more jumps, she made it to the destined roof. As she had dared not slow herself down, she tried to push her way towards the mound of dirt, holding out her hand to the right and a strong burst of fire pushing her in it's direction. After all, it was better than running off the edge of the roof, falling. Dirt was never a problem to her and seeing as she had slept on the streets last night, staying clean wasn't really something she could achieve.

With dirt on her face, she kept her eyes shut, fearing the sting that might come if it touched them. Her hands, she managed to feel, were just as dirty, the dirt sticking to her skin like fresh dough. "Did I win?" she spulttered, rubbing her eyes.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

There seemed to be some commotion on the street below. Bolin gave a sheepish grin. "SORRY!" he shouted down to annoyed passerby, lowering his pillar of earth with a thud. It kicked up a lot of dust, causing more annoyed mutterings directed at him. "Ssssssssssssorryyyyyyyyy," he repeated, ducking back behind the rooftop ledge and out of sight. He grinned at his brother, nudging him a little in the side. "Look at you, Mister Classy!" he teased. "Such grace! Such poise!" Bolin struck a dramatic pose. "Such elegance!"

Out of nowhere, Pabu climbed up his leg. Where had the ferret been? Sometimes, Bolin didn't think he wanted to know.

Did you like it?

"HECK YEAH!" Bolin practically shouted, pumping his fists in the air. "That was... AWESOME!" His voice cracked on the last syllable of the word as he brought his hands down in a gesture of near disbelief. "How come I've never heard of this game before?" the earthbender demanded, rubbing his chin to try and figure out his next move.

But he wasn't fast enough. Quick as a wink, Airi dashed off, challenging him to a race. "You're on!" he shouted, running as fast as he could to try and keep up with the sprightly girl. "Come on, Mako!" he called back to his brother, hoping that for once he'd just let go and have some fun. He couldn't remember the last time Mako smiled and just acted silly for the sake of acting silly — he had been too busy being a grown up for so long.

Airi was half a roof away from him by the time he reached the next ledge. Without thinking, he launched himself off the roof, using a portion — just a small one! — of the roof to propel his stocky (and handsome) body through the air. From inside his shirt, Pabu trilled in excitement (or was it terror?) as Bolin flung out his arms and legs to try and stick a landing. At the last minute, he curled up into a defensive ball, taking care of the little creature who accompanied him.

He got to his feet, staggering a little with vertigo. Airi was still ahead of him, and after putting Pabu down and chittering that he should follow another way, Bolin gave chase again. He propelled himself off of four more rooftops, running and jumping as fast as he could, just in time to see Airi land in a pile of dirt.

"WHA-—"

Bolin crash-landed next to her, his momentum making him miss the mound of dirt entirely. "Oww..." Luckily, nothing seemed broken, just a little sore, maybe bruised. He stood dizzily, making his way over to Airi with a laugh. "Yeah, yeah, you won-- I think!" He stopped and looked around. Where was Mako?

OOC: Sorry for the wait!

"Yeah, that was...actually pretty fun." Mako admitted, surprised to hear the words from himself. He rolled his eyes at Bolin's teasing. The initial hesitance aside, he couldn't remember the last time he had actually forgotten about work, the tournament...maybe he should do this more often? In moderation, of course.

Before he could respond, the two had already dashed off. "Hey!" The firebender shouted, rushing off after them. He could hear the shingles of the roof under his feet clatter, threatening to break away. Part of him felt afraid that he would get in trouble for possibly causing damage to someone's home (or worse, get fined), but the other part was a boy who only wanted to beat his brother in a race. For the longest time, he thought that boy had faded away, but every once in a while he came back brighter than the flames that were coming from his fists.

Airi and Bolin were ahead of him, but he was gaining on them. He narrowed his eyes in determination as he picked up speed. He heard the people below shouting, all looking up at the trio as they raced across the rooftops. Mako looked down at them as he jumped. The streets were busy, full of people hurrying along on business, shopping-oh. SHOPPING. Mako suddenly realized that his hands were empty. He had left the bags of food at the restaurant.

Ugh. How could I have been so stupid? He mentally scolded himself as he came to a screeching halt. This is what I get for doing something so reckless. That's something I'd expect from Bolin...but me?

"I'll catch up later!" He shouted ahead at the two, though he was pretty sure that they were unable to hear him. He shook his head, angry at himself for having forgotten something so important. Food was expensive, and if it had been stolen there was no way that they would be eating for the next couple of weeks. He could pick up double shifts at the power plant or maybe ask for a loan...

Mako rushed back to the curry restaurant, hardly thinking about the rooftop clanging underneath his feet.

Airi smiled when Bolin said she was the winner, then taking to cleaning herself of the dirt. It seemed to make her even more dirty, the dirt rubbing in more than rubbing away though she didn't take mind to it. To her, getting dirty was simply a result of fun, just like getting a few bruises was apart of probending and getting a few burns from working in the kitchen. However, the taste of dirt wasn't much her style, nor did she like the sting if it got in her eyes. On the other hand, she would rather take the dirt than the roof, like Bolin had.

"Are you okay?"
she asked with a laugh, still on the roof jumping high. He would probably get a few bruises, maybe a scape or two, but she never knew many people who got seriously hurt. Well, none that made it to the next roof. The reason there weren't a lot of incidents with roof jumping was once someone fell, they tended not to try it again and it also warded off those that weren't sure about participating. For the brothers, she felt like they'd have a better chance not to fall -not only because they were good benders- because they were more clever than a bunch of kids.

"Oh, Mako?" she copied, her bright yellow eyes looking up towards the cloudy blue sky, trying to remember. He had been behind them, hadn't he? But, uh, he couldn't have possibly fallen! No, that would be horrific! Without a second though, she jumped up and hopped back a roof or two, checking to see where he was. "Uh, he doesn't seem to have fallen," she yelled back towards Bolin. Most people that hit the ground, no matter how smoothly or 'softly', tended to stay there for a while. He must have ran off.

She looked back at her friend and shrugged with a smile, hoping he'd get the gesture. It was possible Mako just ran off. For what he ran off for in the middle of a race - especially without even finishing it! - she would never know, unless he came back and right out told her. "What now?" [/blockquote][/blockquote]

OOC: excuse the slight godmode. i think we might need to call the thread soon? :] not sure where to go from here.

————-

Well. Maybe Mako had completely lost it. Bolin looked around wildly. Mako had been just behind him, and now he was nowhere to be found. Airi doubled back to look and shouted he didn't seem to have fallen. Well, that was good. The thought of Mako falling hadn't actually crossed his mind before though. Oops.

What now?

"Oh. Uh..." Bolin scratched his head then rubbed his shoulder. What now indeed? It wasn't really like them --okay, not like Mako, specifically-- to get distracted during shopping and--

"Oh!" The idea hit him like a lightning bolt. "He probably went to get the groceries." Bolin looked around. "I don't think we took them with us." He laughed sheepishly. How forgetful! Mako must have realised it mid-race, and the responsible brother that he was, he had turned around to get them back. He dusted himself off, then put his hands on his hips and looked around.

"Maybe we should go look for him?"

————-

The trip back to the curry restaurant was rather uneventful. They went back via roof-jumping, but the zest — at least for Bolin — had started to wear off. Not because the game was any less enjoyable, but because he felt bad. He had been so wrapped up in having fun and playing that he didn't think about getting hurt just before the semi-finals, and he didn't think about Mako getting hurt just before the semi-finals, and he even forgot the GROCERIES.

Maybe Mako was right. He needed to be a bit more serious.

But it was hard! Being serious wasn't fun, and besides, what if he turn out like Mako, with his brows furrowed and his lips drawn into a straight line one hundred percent of the time? His boyish good looks wouldn't do well as the brooding, contemplating type.

They found Mako back at the restaurant. Bolin waved eagerly. "HE-YOOOOO!"

"Sure,"
she said, though he original idea had been to wait around and wait for Mako to show up. She wasn't used to having people in her company or getting lost from them for that matter, but she figured the best thing to do would be to wait in a place the other person might come back to. It seemed like a goose chase to the woman to run after someone who was looking for them as well, though that was supposing Mako would be looking for them.

Airi kept on her toes -quite literally with each step starting with the front of her foot instead of the heel- after they hit the ground, just in case Mako was heading back and they missed him or something. With that thought, she began to twirl around every few steps to keep a full 360 search view. "Hey," the firebender said as they reached Bolin's brother, though her tone had dropped somewhat, her mind bundled with tough thoughts all jumbled together. The most prevailing of them all: she was doing everything wrong.

She had gotten Bolin hurt, made Mako almost loose their groceries and... and... some other stuff she couldn't remember, but she had the feeling she had done more stuff and that stuff had not been helpful. Not only her memory problem but her general clumsiness made a mess of stuff. She was beginning to see why not a lot of people wanted to hang out with her when she was younger. At least now that she was older, she had a job she could tend to and feel apart of.

She was out of the competition, but they still had the whole game ahead of them. Perhaps Mako's orignal suspicion about her had been right, though the motive wrong, that she would hurt Bolin. She just hoped she hadn't hurt him too bad. Maybe... maybe it would be best if she kept her distance of the two until after the competition so that they "Hey," she said again, her tone picked up ever so slightly, "you know, I should probably get home. My family might not be too worried, but I should get back anyways. Oh, and, uh, you guys are free to stop by anytime, but I might not be able to pull away from work a lot.

"You see, when the colder seasons kicks in, not a lot of fresh food is out there to buy, so a lot of people come for bread and stuff instead. We've already seen a kick in profits,"
she said, happy with her clever lie- no, lie wasn't the right word. Cover up? Guile? "It's been great hanging out with you two. You guys are loads of fun," she said, remembering the day she spent with Bolin, just hanging out. Sure, the disk to the shoulder had hurt a little bit, but it didn't ruin the rest of the day, the dancing, restaurants, star gazing and more. Today had been no exception, through starting it by waking up in the middle of town was something of a bummer.

"So, uh, I'll try to make your next match," Airi said with all honesty, standing there for a moment afterwards, wondering if now was the time to walk off then. It seemed a bit abrupt, didn't it, but she didn't want to mess up any other stuff. Plus, her brother might be a smidgen worried for her. Finally, she turned on her heel, waving a bit with another good-bye as she walked off, wondering just what she'll do in the mean time.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

OOC: I'm sorry this is so short, I honestly have no idea where to go from here. Should we just call it?

As luck would have it, the groceries were still lying underneath their table. Even more amazingly, nothing seemed to be missing. Mako breathed a sigh of relief. That would have been bad. No way would he have been able to buy all of that back. He gripped the bags tightly, determined not to let go of them until he made it back home.

Moments later, Bolin and Airi returned. It must not have taken them very long to figure out what had happened. Bolin would be glad to know that they wouldn't be starving this month at least. That's what carelessness got you, an empty pantry and a hungry stomach. He raised a hand in the air to greet them.

"Who won?" He asked offhandedly, eyes shifting between the two.

The firebender wasn't too surprised when Airi announced she was going home. The three had spent hours together. What else was there to do in Republic City anyways? Not much unless you had money.

For as odd as she was, the day had really been eventful. Save for the scare with the groceries, maybe it actually had been fun. He was almost disappointed that it was over. Almost. But he had work to do. Not to mention that they needed to practice for their next match, as he was reminded by Airi's statement that she would try to attend. And they needed to get in touch with their other teammate...

"See you around," he nodded. "We should be heading back too."
