Appearance: When one first sees Akane, one might mistake her for a femme fatale. Her long, chocolate brown hair goes down to the middle of her back, and can be found down more often than not. Usually, she only ties it back when she’s training or dancing, but that’s only for safety reasons; she values it too much to let it get chopped by a sword or caught on fire.
Her almond-shaped eyes are a smoky honey-amber color, complementing the creamy color of her skin. Oftentimes, her lips are pulled into a coy smile that makes one wonder if she’s planning something when really, it’s how she smiles most of the time.
Her features and body are slender, worn down to a lithe form by years of dance and acrobatics; it is built for grace and speed, like a koi fish, something she needs a fair amount in her line of work. Her curvy form is usually draped in silks and jewelry, as she tries to emulate the more aloof air of the Fire Nation noble girls. Striving for this has also given her a fluid stride associated with a more refined air; she tries to enhance this with pricy yet tasteful pieces of jewelry.
History: Akane was born in the Fire Nation Capital, the youngest of three girls, to a set of parents who were well-off, but not rich enough to be considered nobility. A former member of the Army, he did his best to raise his children and eventually was stuck with five girls of varying ages.
In school, he discovered that Akane had been gifted with a natural intelligence, but also seemed to be cursed with an almost insatiable curiosity. To assuage this, her father enrolled her in a school that taught her dance and acrobatics, two skills which would become invaluable later in her life. Akane took to both extremely well, but started to exhibit signs of restlessness after her oldest sister left home to marry a merchant.
At the age of 14, she could no longer stand the structured environment of the schools she attended and ran away from home, trying to seek her fortune in the world despite her age. She’d heard stories of the Fire Nation Circus and was immediately captivated; she sought it out and, after seeing one performance, begged the Ringmaster to let her join. Although he was hesitant at first, her skills impressed him enough to make him reconsider. She was put on the roster as “Ember,” an acrobat who danced with fire.
She toured with the Circus for a year and a half before growing tired of it, much to the chagrin of the Ringmaster. Leaving for home, she was welcomed back by her parents who welcomed her back, despite the fact that they were extremely angry with her for dropping out of school and running away. Things soon returned to normal, and Akane spent more time at school, working on her dancing and acrobatics.
When she was 16, her parents took the family to the Fire Days Festival, where she learned that her father had arranged a performance for her. Apprently, he’d seen how much she loved to dance and decided to allow her to perform on her birthday. The performance went off without a hitch, and it wasn’t long before she was posting notices all over the Capital, looking for people to join a troupe. After weeks of auditions, she compiled her group and began performing regularly in the Capital square. She came to be known as “Ember.”
At 17, she met a Firebender named Azei Xian, a Firebender who served in the Army. Although their relationship never hit any major snags, they mutually broke up a year later.
Personality: Akane, despite being quite dynamic in her moods, is usually even-tempered and tries not to let the biases of others affect her way of thinking. Most of the time, she prefers to live independently and freely, and often hates structured environments.
Although she would never admit it, she is vain. She takes her appearance very seriously, as her career as a dancer banks on it. She constantly, albeit quietly, seeks for approval of her looks and takes any insult to them very seriously; she doesn’t show it openly, but any insult to her appearance eats away at her until she can find a way to improve it.
