Name: Hai
Age: 25
Appearance:
Hai stands at about 5'9" and weighs about 175 lbs. His straight shoulder length brown hair is kept out of his eyes using a black headband. He is slim, and has well muscled arms and legs. His hands and feet are worn and calloused, from his time travelling. Hai walks with a carefree, easy gate, with his shoulders relaxed. He has deep blue eyes that usually sparkle with the hint of a smile. He wears loose black pants and a short sleeved shirt that is black on his left shoulder, down around his waist, and red on the right shoulder and down to the waist. He often goes shoeless, but has a pair of cheap leather shoes attached to his belt if it gets cold, or the terrain gets too rough. He carries a solid wooden staff, both as a weapon and a walking stick, it is plain, absent of any design.
History:
Hai was abandond as an infant. His mother had entered Ba Sing Se with Hai, then left him on a doorstep, the doorstep of Lu Xi, a street vendor who sold meat. He and his wife took Hai in, nameless, and crying. Mai, Lu Xi's wife, took care of him. To her dismay, Lu Xi gave him the name Hai, which means second, to remind him that he would walway come second to his own son, Li. Despite the name, Mai cared for him and loved him just as much as Li. Hai never connected to Lu Xi, and never got to see Li, who was always off at school. Hai never went to school, being stuck in a classroom all day bored him, and when Mai had first started trying to send him to school, he would just find a way to skip. So, Mai let him stay home and help her. She tried to get her husband to give him a job, but Lu refused, claiming that Hai was too stupid. Hai never took Lu as his surname because of his supposed fathers coldness to him. When he turned fourteen he found a new way to pass time. He finally found a spark of interest in learning at age fourteen. It was a rough spot between Lu Xi and Hai. Lu Xi wanted Hai to get out of his house, and took every chance he could to make Hai uncomfortable, making comments about how he would have died if he hadn't taken him in. It was at this time he discovered the art of meditation. Meditating allowed him to calm himself down. LU Xi made him so angry, but meditating helped calm him down, and prevented him from doing something stupid. He meditated every day, near a pool in the city, watching the koi fish peacefully swimming below the surface. Things seemed to be going good for Hai, Lu Xi ignored him, and he spent his time helping Mai around the house. Tragedy struck when Mai became sick. Hai was sixteen at the time. Lu Xi had no idea what to do, and Li was at the Ba Sing Se academy. Mai died and things finally exploded between Lu Xi and Hai. They yelled at eachother, both screaming about what they did wrong. Finally, they began to fight. Lu Xi almost killed Hai, slamming a knife into the wall next to his head. He told Hai to leave, and never return. Scared and grieving, Hai left Lu Xi's house, to find his own way in the world. He lived on the street for a year, doing odd jobs and chores for other people, before he decided to leave the city. He bought his staff from a sickly little man in the third ring, and used the rest of his money to buy food. During his time alone on the street, a new way of thinking came to him. Anyone can die at anytime, so now, he wants to travel the world seeing all the beautiful wonders it contains. He travelled alone through the Earth Kingdom, avoiding the war whenever possible. Now, eight years since his departure, he finally hopes to leave the Earth Kingdom. He is hoping to find someway to the north, to see the North Pole, and learn about their culture. He still meditates daily and avoids towns unless he needs supplies. Also, in the place of a surname, he thinks of himself as, The Wanderer.
Personality:
After his years travelling alone, Hai has found whatever sembelence of inner peace he can during a war. He dissaproves of the war completely and doesn't favor either side. He dislikes fighting but he is not afraid to go at it with his staff. He is a very accepting person, not easily insulted. He wants to forget his past, to get rid of the hurt of Mai's death, but he can't let her go. He is easygoing and never thinks of anything as impossible. He often travels alone, but is willing to travel with almost anyone. He prefers to be alone while meditating. He becomes greatly irritated when people interupt his meditating.
