Name: Suigetsu

Age: 18

Appearance: 5 foot 3. Stocky with a thin layer of fat covering his muscles. Shaved head with an scar covering the upper-right corner of his head. Matching spiraling scars from his wrists to his shoulders due to accidentally tying the sharp wires he arms himself with too tightly.
Blue/gray eyes which are almost constantly half-lidded, giving him a perpetually tired look. Inverted tattoo of the mark of the wise on his forehead.
An almost constant blanket of brown and white beard stubble. A light brown complexion common to most of the water tribe.
Wears a long, dark blue hooded winter coat lined with white platypus-bear fur.
Worn out, knee-high boots held together by rope. A sleeveless black shirt common in the Earth Kingdom underneath his ever-present coat.

History: The only child of a water bending father and warrior mother who both left him in the care of his distant relatives to fight the Fire Nation. Not long later a Fire Nation raid scattered his foster family he decided that he'd rather not have to depend on someone else. This has left him with a low opinion of both the Fire Nation for their brutality and the Water Nation for their perceived indifference.

He spent the next few months alone in a self-imposed exile traveling the villages and wilderness of the North Pole until he met a soldier of the Fire Nation which changed his life. He mistook an outreached hand from the dying teen as an attack and fled the soldier. When he returned he discovered his latent water-bending ability while digging into the ice to make a grave.

It was later that Suigetsu gave himself the inverted mark of the wise which he dubbed the mark of the fool and traveled as far as he could developing his philosophy of individuality and his hatred of groups and organizations of any kind.

His goal is to find a water bending master in the Earth Kingdom with similar beliefs and become strong enough to face the Fire Lord he feels most represents the qualities he despises. While some have trained him for short periods Suigetsu has never had a successful apprenticeship due to personality conflicts. He had burned every bridge in the North Pole once Master Paku considered him untrainable and the word of his difficulty reached the lesser water-benders of the North.

Personality: Suigetsu lives under the motto of: Humans are great, but humanity as a group is worthless. Not particularly social but enjoys people not affiliated with some sort of group. Be they law enforcement or a charitable organization, Suigetsu mistrusts all. This has caused great friction in the towns he has spent time in.
In contrast to his hatred of groups, Suigetsu has a fondness for individual people, especially those he considers outside the norm and forms attachments fast despite the fact he rarely stays in a place more than a month.

Suigetsu mostly prefers to keep to himself and has a complicated opinion of romance. He loves the idea of being with someone who understands him but loathes the idea of losing his individuality once becoming part of a couple and thus no longer himself. All of his past attempts at romance have failed due to his ideology but is always ready to try again once a woman catches his eye.

In his less serious moments Suigetsu unleashes an odd sense of humor on unsuspecting people via odd, random questions and strange statements. For the most part he intends to amuse himself but has an instant and deep affection for anyone who laughs at one of his jokes.
His sense of humor has been known to encompass everything from the childish to the horribly dark.

Killing is a point of internal disturbance for him. Many people he had killed he considered parts of a machine such as Fire Nation soldiers and Earth Kingdom law enforcement and not actual people but has recently come to rethink his policy. He decided that people had the capacity for change and deserved the chance to. He decided he would become a master water bender not only to face the Fire Lord but to be able to fight without killing and give people the opportunity to become a better person by doing away with their current loyalties.

While a great lover of meat Suigetsu also loves animals in their non-cooked forms. He considers animals completely innocent and despises things like circuses or hunting for a reason other than survival. In particular he has a soft spot for platypus-bears.
Children are also a source of amusement for him. Particularly watching them enjoy something older people take for granted and playing chaotic games where the rules always change.
He considers adults as children with crushed spirits.

Suigetsu's bending ability is best described as ability without talent. While technically a high-intermediate bender in knowledge his actual bending is amateurish. He has studied many variations of water bending but could never move beyond basic control. One of his more acerbic teachers referred to it as "excelling at mediocrity".

Of the different variations of water bending he learned from fighting to bend-surfing he only displayed a slight talent for manipulating the resonance of glasses of water to make music. More than a few of his many teacher had suggested he give up on the other disciplines and focus on music and haiku.
