Name: Hui Chen

Age: 16

Appearance: Taller than most girls of her tribe nearing the six foot mark. She typically wears her wavy black hair combed back due to a bad haircut by her father which left her hair unevenly at eyebrow level. Hui Chen has an uneven mix of tanned and pale parts due to her normal desert dwelling clothes leaving some parts exposed and others covered. Her desert attire consisted of a drab, brown, light-weight robe which she constantly wore with the sleeves rolled up despite the burning sun of the Si Wong desert. Her arms from the elbows down are darkly tanned, but pale from the shoulders up. After some travelling outside of the desert the shade of her arms have evened out somewhat.

She now wears a long, black, knee-length skirt and sleeveless white button-up top with a mandarin collar. Even in the more morderate terrain of the Earth Kingdom she wears a a long gray scarf covering the majority of her face and all of her hair. This is from a combination of habit and self-consciousness about her freckled nose and butchered hair.
Around her left bicep is an iron bracelet her father made for her upon leaving Si Wong. It's a point of annoyance when people ask what the crude, amateurish metalworking was supposed to be.

History: A tall and awkward girl, Hui Chen felt out of place and kept mostly to herself as she grew up. At the age of 12 she was discovered to have the ability to bend earth, but not the personality traits necessary to do so adequately. Always willing to compromise and avoid conflict, her father joked that she was an airbender in spirit. Her parents worried about her prospects but never pushed her into pursuing anything that would make her unhappy.

Shortly after her 15th birthday Hui Chen began thinking more and more about what her purpose in life could be. She had no skills and her earthbending was barely that of a beginner. Therefore she took a controversial rite of passage by imbibing an amount of cactus juice in hope that she would be given a vision of the path she should take.

Lying on the cold, night sands Hui Chen saw an image of a beautiful girl surrounded by fire which obeyed her silent commands. She recognized her as Princess Azula of the Fire Nation from pictures she had seen before. From that moment on, Hui Chen felt that her purpose somehow lied with Azula.
For the first time in her life Hui Chen felt strongly about something which began to show in her earthbending. She redoubled her efforts to train and within a year reached an intermediate level of bending.

After telling her parents modified version of her vision with less emphasis on the swelling feelings of love and service to Azula she attained their blessing to leave the desert and find her path in life. She is now determined to find Princess Azula at all costs and serve her in any way is seen fit.

Personality: Shy and awkward, Hui Chen is easily embarassed and feels inferior to most when it comes to looks. After her vision she began noticing women more in a different and confusing way. Openly flirting is not her style and she prefers to show affection through small acts of kindness. She struggles with deciding whether her feelings toward Azula are romantic or simply that of a loyal servant to their master. As such, her attitude around pretty girls can be erratic at times, alternating between extremely helpful to shy and standoffish. Her attitude toward men is more relaxed since there is no issue of attraction there.

She greatly enjoys every aspect of life outside of the desert and has a habit of embarassing herself with her rampant enthusiasm. New experiences no matter how small animate this normally quiet girl.
While she is extremely naive when it comes to life outside the desert, she is not an openly trusting person and openly second-guesses any kindness made to her. She has never had a close friend and has no real idea how friends act and sometimes has trouble with determining what people's words and actions truly mean. Things like sarcasm or subtle insults slip right past her.
